PB&J 2025

fishing user avatardrop-shot fool reply :

I have noticed that many people are using the pb&j color for football jigs.  I have never used them because i have always liked the green pumpkin hues.  Which one is better?

fishing user avatarJake. reply :

For jigs, I like PB&J better when the water is clear and colors like Green Pumpkin better when the water is stained.

fishing user avatar5bass reply :

My best all around color is brown/green but there are times when PB&J will flat load the boat. I don't expect there is a correct answer as to which one is better, it's all about having the right color on the right jig at the right time throwing it in the right place.

Both are good color patterns, trial and error will tell you which one is better on your home lake.

fishing user avatarBad to da Bass reply :

I like the PB&J color better because I have caught all my fish on just that one color but I would probably go with the color that you have got the most confidence in.

fishing user avatarCWB reply :

I say let the fish decide!

:)

fishing user avatarSam reply :

Try to match the crawfish colors for each season.

PB&J is always a good choice.

Other colors matching the crawfish can be better.  :)

fishing user avatarSimp reply :

I wonder if the fish know your not suppose to eat peanut butter right now? :) ;D :D;)

fishing user avatar.ghoti. reply :

PB&J used to be the "secret" color on Table Rock. That could be where the "use it in clear water" idea originated.

It's a good color anywhere.

fishing user avatarBARON49_Northern NY reply :

It seems the color purple is making a comeback in many forms.  I see it here with the PB&J colored lures and in a lot of jig skirts, as well as in the paint on some crankbaits.

I can remember when a purple worm was the #1 thing to use for catching bass.

fishing user avatarBobby Uhrig reply :

Hmmm PBJ- Loks good  and works anywhere%7Boption%7D

I'm pretty sure McClelland got the whole PB and J thing really going big with his offshore jig wins on Grand and Clarks Hill in the past couple years. Never really heard of it up here until then... :-/

One of my favorite finesse baits on the planet is a PB and J 4" Berkley Grub (Powerbait, not that Gulp crap), T-rigged with a 1/32 to 1/8 bullet. It's a killer prespawn bait.

Wow, when those jigs get stuck in rocks they look good... :)

fishing user avatarBobby Uhrig reply :

They dont get stuck more than any other jig-  Explain how they can ??? Am I missing something-here

fishing user avatarTin reply :

I know a lot of it is people being a-holes buts thats because it is useless to argue b/c the same people coming running to the defense and say "Never any issues."  ::)

When more than few people all say the same thing, and judging by their posts actually know what they are doing (I'm not including myself so dont jump all over me for being an arrogant *****) there is obviously a flaw. Just a couple weeks ago there were 5 or 6 people all saying how the jig gets stuck way too easy to fish in heavier cover. This is after earlier in the year everyone else was saying it was too weak and you "toughened" it up or whatever.

It's always the same complaints...weedguard and hook. I know you stepped up the guard but it still is weaker than most. The hook is also awful, my little brother catches a 2 pound fish on it after maybe 5 minutes of fishing and flips it in the boat. When I go to unhook it for him I notice the hook is bent out. I have a pic of the fish still because it was his first jig fish. So I take it cut it off and tie another on. Twenty minutes later he gets another, this one around the same size, same result. A jig made for pitching should not have a hook bend out on 20 pound braid being used by a 10 year old. And oher people complain about the hook too. I was also sent a pack of them by a very thoughtful member on the site and both of those did the same thing. So I have had and used 4 Evo jigs, all four had horrible hooks and he and I were cleaning scum or junk off them just about everyother cast because the larger lead section below the skirt is so bulky it picks up everything.

They were a complete waste of money. It was like paying $4 a fish. If the hooks can't with stand 2 pound fish coming out of 44* water that have hardly any fight, 20 pond braid on spinning combo, and a 10 year old, why I recommend them or have anything good to say about them?

(Come on die hard supporters, rip me apart with your same old must have been a bad batch or "never had that issue"...)

I was thinking of ordering some of his jigs. And the shake E  :-?jigs too.

fishing user avatarBobby Uhrig reply :

Tin, First of all we accept all criticisms. Thats how we learn. As for the hooks- They are Gamakatsu hooks- The only time I heard about the hooks bending were from guys that were using 50 lb braid. Go figure. Maybe I should take this up with gamy- -I am paying top dollar for themI am not calling you a liar but for any hook, never mind a Gamakatsu straightening out on a 2 lb fish- I have caught 6-7 lb bass and not straightened them out. As for the weedguard- yes bumped up the stiffness-as for the bottom fulcrum area -I havent seen it grab any more weeds than any other jig.We are always striving to create the best product we can. As for the other guys here jumping in-dont be so harsh on them- maybe they didnt have any issues. The reason hook company's started making "Super hooks" is for the braid. The New Evo 2 Jigs are made with heavy duty hooks-smaller profile - "Stealthier" profile for getting into tighter areas. The point I was making to begin with is I havent seen the jig get caught in the rocks more than any other jig- which is in response to your "Arrogant *****" comment to begin with LOL If you are not happy with the Evo's just return them and I will replace them with the New Evo 2's= The hooks definitly will not bend out even with the braid.Like I said in the beginning -we are all friends here" and we back all of our products 100%. thank you, Bobby@Megastrike

fishing user avatarroadwarrior reply :

Hey Tin!

Man, I'm not ripping on you at all. Your experience with the jigs

or Shak-E2 jigs is terrible and I would be bitter, too. However,

the jigs and jig heads have performed very well for me and I

have never had an issue.

Send them back to Bobby and give the new ones another try.

Then report your results, good or bad. I won't let anyone beat

up on your findings.

fishing user avatartyrius. reply :

Tin,

Did the hook straighten out or did the hook bend to the side? Did it bend when you were taking the hook out?  I bent a hook on an Evo trying to get the jig out of a big carp that I caught. I bent the "shaft" of the hook to the side. I just bent it back and kept fishing. I think I still have that jig too.

As for getting hung up, I wouldn't fish the original one (haven't used the new version yet) in brush or weeds, but they work well in the rock bottom that I like to fish. EVERYTHING gets hung up in that stuff. I haven't noticed the Evo hanging up more than any other football jig.

fishing user avatarBass_Fanatic reply :

I think that the PB&J color just hangs more than any other color.  Peanut Butter is some sticky crap!!  LOL

Nah, I rarely fish football jigs in heavy cover because I always seem to loose em all.  They just tend to hang more than other lures.  I have no experience with the evo jigs, so cant comment there, but jigs in general hang, and its a pain.

fishing user avatarTin reply :

PM sent Bobby...

fishing user avatarBobby Uhrig reply :

PM sent to Tin, also I forgot to ask-were you getting hung up in the rocks and did I miss something with the Shak-E2 heads????

Me being a sarcastic a-hole. It got hung in brush, never got the chance to fish it in really rocky areas.

fishing user avatarBobby Uhrig reply :

Like I said I will send you some Evo2's . I have total confidence that you will be happy with them. What about the Shak-E2. The Evo2's have heavy duty flippn hooks on them. Tell your little brother when he gets hung up he can wrap the braid around the cleat of the boat-put the trolling motor on high and yank that stump out of the ground.

fishing user avatarGone_Phishin reply :

This winter I picked up a few Jewel Pro Spider jigs in PB&J smoke; these babies look saweeeet!  I have to wait 'till the 18+ inches of ice melts before I can give them a go.

fishing user avatarPond Hopper reply :

I hear what Tin is saying.  I got some Shake-E-2 heads or whatever were given away graciously by Bobby.  After seeing that gesture I bought some of the jigs too.

Let me preface this by saying I have had serious problems with Gammy hooks, and I do use 50 lb braid but the industry should be able to make a good hook that can handle it.

Needless to say I broke 2 hooks on the shakey heads and one of the jigs snapped the hook clean off on the first...I mean first hookset I made(could of been the only tree in the whole pond I hit).  Needless to say I will not complain about a gracious company but after this, and a couple other experiences I had with Gammy this summer I will not purchase anything that has their hook on it.

fishing user avatarPD reply :

Bobby, what trailer is that on your jig? That is a good looking jig & trailer combo.
