Ned rig weedless wire 2025

What do you guys prefer on a weedless need rig. A sing or double weedless wire and do you prefer it to be a type of wire you can bend yourself or do you just like the ones that just kind of bounce back and are a little more flimsy. Hope this makes sense??

Yeah Ive used these for a while I like the weedguards not a big fan of the quality of the hook, bait keeper so in the process of making my own and wanted to see if anyone preferred a single wire guard that's a little stiffer

I tried a few heads that I bought but did not like the hooks on any of them so I bought some Gammy 1/0 hooks and some Surflon 45# coated wire. It is plenty stiff for weed guard.

Thanks exactly what I wanted to hear did you use one strand or two. Also when I'm done with mine I'll have to get you some to try
I also need to mention I mostly use the larger z man power finesse shroomz

I haven't found the perfect jig for my Ned rigs. I've been using the Z-Man Shroomz weedless. But I'd prefer they came in a lighter weight. The wire weed guards are ok, but I use straight 10lb braid and find my line wraps around the wires quire a bit, requiring a lot of adjusting the wires and unwinding line from them. I've used jigs from BP that have the single, plastic weed guard but those jigs have the molded barb and Elaztech plastics don't stay on the heads so I haven't used them a lot.

Still got a few of these. The maker I believe is from Blue's part of the wood. Unfortunately he has stopped making them due to sickness in his family.

If you're using a traditional weighted Ned head (3/32oz or lighter), a single wire strand should be plenty. I use a single weedguard fiber on my 1/8oz micro jigs and it works just fine.

So the two sizes should be 1/11 oz and 1/6 oz and I'm doing 3/0 and 4/0 hooks for the 1/6 oz and 3/0 and either a #1 or 1/0(for a more finesse rig) for the 1/11oz

I'd go double strand for those weights and hook lengths. The wire is going to need to be longer and is going to flex more because of it.

When I go for anything that heavy or with those large of a hook I move up to the 90# Surflon or Sevelon. Like Blue said it will need to be longer and will be more flexible.

I've gone to pouring my own and use a light double strand of fiber guard. Have to do it all mostly by hand ... one at a time but like the results. I include the bait keeper too. It's not to bad when I consider I don't loose many. Not a fan of wire.

I super glue a piece of 30# mono long enough to curve over the hook and stick into the plastic behind it. I do this when I glue the bait to the jig head.

Those look great. My problem is with the keeper. Blunt wire keepers take a bit of effort to stick elaztech baits. I have the same problem with my Owner Blockheads which I like otherwise. As much as I dislike Z-Man's heads the sharp keeper works.

You need to pinch the plastic and pull it way from the hook as you pull it over the wire keeper. Just trying to push it over as you would with a normal plastic doesn't work very well.

I might recommend these little gummy plastic slivers.
Note that it has a pre-defined small hole on one end and the general idea is to thread that up through the hook point toward the jig head, then put on your plastic lure. Run the other end of this plastic thingy over and embed the hook point in it to cover its barb.
Alternatively, this depending on the orientation of your hook eye, you can just push this little device over the eye using that same hole, then run it straight down to the hook point.
These come in different sizes, can be easily trimmed to a desired length.

That's what I do but it's still a hassle. I have to stretch the bait to the point that it's just a "skin" at the keeper point then try to work it through. Then the bait never sits snug to the head. Arthritis in my thumbs doesn't help either.

I use Zman's weedless jigs. They work for me, though I do find
the wire a *tad* stiff. I've caught bluegill on them, though, so
I don't think the wire is a real issue.
Have also bought regular Zman Ned jigs and tied a strand of 40#
mono leader. A little tedious since there's not a lot of room to tie,
but they have worked well for me.

You can find them at Bass Pro Shop. I know they are in the catalog and available mail order. Not certain if they are routinely carried in BPS stores, or not. Be certain and read the "customer comments" for suggestions on which size to purchase or get a pack of each to experiment with. I trim mine.

those do look great, Im going to have to do a search and see If I can match wires, also like how the eye is flush/ something im trying to form on mine as well, just in a different fashion, haha. thanks for the link that really helps.
