I think we can all agree that Mustad has the best hooks. They're hooks that are sticky sharp, have long-lasting points, and are super strong. The hook-up ratio is phenomenal with these hooks. It's plain and simple, you just don't loose fish like you do with other brands. I mean heck, KVD uses them!

Do you work for them or something? Mustads are a good middle of the road hook, pretty sharp and not overly expensive. I would put Owner hooks up against any hook for sharpness. The ST36 treble is pretty much the only hook on any of my hard baits.

Fixed it. You're welcome.

What was the purpose of posting that??
I prefer Gama and Owner's over Mustad. I like the Trokar's too, but they're pretty pricey and they don't sharpen back up the same because of the way they're sharpened from the factory.
I admire your enthusiasm and am glad that you've found a brand you have confidence in. One thing is for sure though, things that "we can all agree" on are few and far between on this site. Bass fisherman have opinions as varied and diverse as the day is long, depending on what works best for their individual strengths and needs. Maybe this is part of the reason that the tackle and hook selection in most outdoor stores is so overwhelmingly huge to start with. Judging too by the comments that have been posted so far, while everyone encourages and respects one another's opinions around here, we understandably tend to bristle a bit when being told in absolute terms what we should and should not be in agreement with...
For my part, I do use Mustad treble hooks when I am using punchbait for channel cats. I like their J-hooks for panfish as well. For bass though, I personally find more success with Gamakatsu, but to each their own. There are still other brands I need to try as well.
Mustad only comes in about 3rd on my list..
Who cares about pimping Mustad hooks? In my opinion, I think that we can all agree that a quality craft beer, a lager, a pilsner, maybe a session IPA, totally enhances the entire fishing experience. In fact, I think that we all can agree that first thing in the morning, after a few casts, we should stop what we are doing and pound a cold one, in doing so we are paying homage to the beer gods, who, after all, are in cahoots with the fishing gods. If you think about your next few fishing tackle purchases while you are pounding a cold one first thing in the morning, so much the better. (but that is optional, if you are distracted by scenery and fail to think about tackle purchases, that is excusable.)
It is good that we can all agree on stuff.
im going thru the whole "upgrade" my treble hook process on my squarebills and been going down the path "who to choose" and on my squarebills rather to go EWG or Roundbend.
At the moment i rolled the dice and slapped some Mustad KVD's the 1x strong 2x short EWG.
I did grab some Owners too the ST-36 but they are the long shank. which model is the short shank round bed?
just gonna try both and see what works best for me. But i do feel like i want that short shanks for sure, less hang ups, and on some squarebills i could even up size my hooks.
Feel free to throw some extra info or change my mind, ha thanks!

All but me! But only because I'm riding a wagon. Now, if you replace all the beer references with "cigar", then I'm going to have to agree with the rest.
if money were no issue, i'd only fish trokar or owners.
gamakatsu would be close behind that, then mustad ranks right above stock hooks/eagle claws. not saying they're bad hooks at all, they work fine, just saying they aren't the end all hook you might have made them out to be.
wow im surpisred to hear how low u rank Mustad. Owner to me has always been up at the top.
The few Triple Grips that i got even compared to the owners are sticky sharp. Way better than what was on some of my stock cranks for sure.
I really like mustad trebles
Everything else i like owner, trocar and gammi...in no particular order...depends on the application
I think we can all agree that this is ridiculous.
Who is your dealer ??!!??

Yup, I agree..
Mustads are all right. Not all that IMO (except for the triple grips, but then again I think I'm buying into hype more so than performance). I mean I'll buy them if their real cheap, but heck I think even VMC's are a better hook. I stick to Gammy's, Owner's, and VMC's before I buy Mustad's. IMO they're about the same as Lazer Sharp's.
Also, saying that they're the best hook because KVD uses them is like saying Hane's makes the best underwear because Michael Jordan wears them...
I am not working for Mustad nor sponsored by them. I just love there hooks.

Their*
We can all agree that there have been way to many of "these" posts this year and it's only January. But the one thing we call agree on is fishing is awesome lol.
Tight lines

Further proof that we can't all agree on anything, I don't understand why anyone would willingly drink something that taste as nasty as beer does
I think that we can all agree that Black Hole hooks made with stolen alien technology from Area 51 are truly the very best.

You and me both Brother, and I own a Tavern, but I'm sure glad they do. Brian.
Great! Now I have to go and buy all new hooks that are Mustad. I mean come on Kvd uses them. They have to be the best.

Apparently, according to these guys,^ the beer must come from Area 51 as well! Lol..
My buddy fishes with the owner of the company. They're good people, with a good product. They seem on par with Gammies. What's weird is that even though they are locally made, I can't find them anywhere locally. My preference are Owner, though other brands have performed well for me. What brand so and so uses matters little to me. I'm more interested in what type of hook they use, for what bait, and why. I'll decide for myself what brand I prefer.
I think we can all agree that South bend hooks and Shakespear OmniFlex Fishing line is the best!
Green Trout, did you purposely post this topic to start an argument? Because that is what is going to happen if you say anything is the "best" on this forum. Live and learn.
I like the treble hooks and at one time I loved the jig hooks, to me they were the best bang for buck hook on the market. Now it is different, the thing I liked was the ultra point didn't fold over on snags but now it seems like the treble hooks are their focus and the jig hooks haven't been as good as they use to be. I'm on board with Owner myself, they make the strongest light wire hook and the jig hooks are amazing as well but they are premium and I buy those for just a few select baits. What has impressed me is Eagle Claw, they came out with the laser sharp hooks and I think they have passed Mustad with those and the jig hooks, well look no further than the black platinum series, I now use those to replace the Mustad I use to use the most. I'm all over the place with hooks these day, for EWG regular wire worm hooks I use the Gamakatsu, they are just great, for drop shots and wacky rigs I use the Owner octopus hooks, for flukes I use the Owner twist lock light hooks and for regular worm hooks and flipping hooks I use Trokar . I still love triple grip KVD short shank and regular shank treble hooks and there are certain jig hooks from Mustad that I use like the EWG style flat eye hook and the small 1/0 flipping jig hooks but then Owner and Eagle Claw make up the rest of my jig hooks. I think that just about any brand of hook is good today as all are chemically sharpened and with black nickel finishes replacing bronze, you have less rusting of hooks but there are still differences every angler needs to know.
I have triple grips gammys and owner. Haven't used the last two much but I'm keeping an open mind. I don't imagine much of a difference. If someone showed me penetration data I may be swayed to use one brand.
I'm not on the wagon and any brew is offensive to my taste buds. Give me a spicy Bloody Mary with plenty of veggies for breakfast and a couple of shots of Cazadores if the water is on the rough side.On 1/21/2015 at 2:36 AM, Fishes in trees said:Who cares about pimping Mustad hooks? The only Mustad hook I use with regularity is a limerick hook. Mustad seems to be the only company I know of that makes them.
For year the only hook I used for casting, flipping, pitching, & punching was Mustad's Denny Braeur Flipping Hook.
When Mustad did away with the Ultra Point, I did away with Mustad!

Still don't see the Denny Brauer Flipping Hook!
They got that pin lock which I don't like!
Could have been little more clear
Gotcha, just wasn't clear.
I have always been partial to Gamakatsu, especially their thin wire Offset Worm Hooks.
Daiichi XPoints and Trokar are my other favorite single hooks. For trebles I like VMC
Barbarian and Katsuage. For jigs I like the Owner XXX that Siebert Outdoors uses.
Back to Mustad, this is the manufacturer for Moaner Hooks and these are the only
weighted hooks I fish. So, I guess I am 100% satified with Mustad, too!
