Line For Square Billed Cranks 2025

fishing user avatarRamz reply :

I plan on fishing square billed crankbaits this year. I want to bounce them of stumps and submerged wood. What type of line do you suggest using?

fishing user avatarww2farmer reply :

What ever line you feel comfortable with. It's not a light line technique IMHO. Personaly I use braid, usually 30, sometimes 20, sometimes 50. Before I used braid, I used 15lb Trilene Big Game mono, 20 if I had to keep them real shallow.

fishing user avatarbigfishbk86 reply :

I personally am not a fan of braid for cranking. It sounds to me like 12 or 15lb P-line cxx is just what you're looking for.

fishing user avatarBryce C reply :

12lb yozuri hybrid

fishing user avatarO_TOWN_BOY16 reply :

fishing user avatarO_TOWN_BOY16 reply :

I use YZH line for all my needs. I use 12lb and 6lb

fishing user avatartstone reply :

I use 17lb mono for squarebills

fishing user avatarBIG M reply :

20 or 30lb braid for all my cranking.

fishing user avatarSausageFingers reply :

I'm on the Yozuri Hybrid team. I use that for all of my setups.

fishing user avatarJ Francho reply :

12# P-Line CXX.

x2. Actually I use 10# most of the time because it is so strong and abrasion resistant. I tend to go lighter than most when fishing mono though.

fishing user avatarJ Francho reply :

I just happen to have 12# on the rod I use for shallow cranks. 10# is probably easier to manage, and will work fine, too.

fishing user avatarPhranchise1213 reply :

Go flurocarbon...if you are fishing around stumps or you want to keep the lure higher in the water column, than fish 20 lb test. If you want them to run a little deeper and are fishing sparser cover than go down to 12-15 lb. However square bills do excel around wood, so maybe compromise and call it 17 lb if you only want to choose one line :)

fishing user avatarPackard reply :

14lb Sunline FC Sniper

fishing user avatarRed reply :

I am using 20lb Sunline FC Sniper. All of my squarebill fishing is around wood and I have had no issues so far.

fishing user avatarbackcast88 reply :

You can use any line your comfortable with. I use 8 lb flouro or mono and have never had a single problem. Plus with lighter line you can get the crankbait a little deeper then with heavier line.

fishing user avatarCrankenstein Crony reply :

I like 10 pound Vicious Fluoro for square bills.

fishing user avatarBigBrotherThunda reply :

15lb Pline CXX or 14lb McCoy Mean Green, I like the copolymer for square bills. Braid is too unforgiving and cost me some fish by taking it away on the strike. Those two also hold up to being banged around the cover pretty well.

fishing user avatarset_the_hook reply :

I like 15# copolymer for its buoyancy over grass , sometimes 17. This year I'm trying McCoy mean green.

fishing user avataraavery2 reply :

12lb P-line CX

fishing user avatarSherlock 60 reply :

Guess I am a light-line guy. I use 10# mono for almost all of my crankbaits, including square bills. Never had a problem.

fishing user avatarVinny Chase reply :

10-12# Seaguar Abrasx

fishing user avatarBass_Fanatic reply :

15lb CXX or Yozuri Hybrid.

fishing user avatarcraww reply :

Depends on the appilcation, I throw alot of RC's. The .05's get 10lb hybrid for casting distance with the 1/4oz bait. I used the 2.5 yesterday for about 8 hours on a lake thats basically a flooded forest. 17lb suffix seige really impressed me. I threw it over and through trees all day, even pulled some fish outta wood. It didnt show any sign of wear, and handled really well. Even bent some heavy wire hooks on an underwater stump.

fishing user avatarkikstand454 reply :

15lb yozuri hybrid.
