Megabass Wiggle Wart? 2025

fishing user avatarA KGB Operative reply :

Sm-x spriggen. Has anyone ever used these lures? Lees has them for 20 bucks and I figure I already got a 20 dollar topwater, now I should get a different form of higher quality bait. It's a tie between this one and the new Raid lipless crankbait. The raid lv lipless, it sits like a imitating baitfish on the bottom. Just head down and tail up. This means techinquely you could hop it along the bottom. Just different action from everything else. http://www.carolinafishingtackle.com/store/RAID-JAPAN/LEVEL-VIB/RAID-JAPAN-Level-Vib-Counter-Blue-Back-Tiger.html

Idk if the links will work, but hopefully they will. Anyone use these baits?

fishing user avatarMaster Bait'r reply :

It's funny I should see this thread as I just picked one up. I haven't even received it yet. Was thinking they looked exactly like a JDM wart and they have some dangerously sexy finishes. I'll definitely be putting them through their paces side by side this summer.

Grabbed this guy and can't wait!

I know, but I have some old Warts also. But I have been fishing the new Warts here on Table Rock and they are catching fish just fine! Will the old ones catch more fish ???????????????  I think the old Warts are catching more fisherman than fish?

The older ones have a more erratic wobble like this one does. This is modeled after the old wiggle warts. Plus the old wiggle warts are like 20-200 bucks. Just stupid priced and these look better in my opinion. I'm just becoming a huge fan of jdm. Quality over quantity.

How do you guys think it will preform on a baitcaster? Its 3:8ths ounce but it has that weight transfer system so it soars like all my other megabass lures.

I here ya! The old ones also have a different sound. Tim Hughs painted some for Bass Pro and they look real good.

fishing user avatarMaster Bait'r reply :

It's fine, I didn't want that $20 anyways.

Besides, the old warts either go for the same amount or even way more- and with the weight transfer system included in these it makes more sense than getting hosed for old warts to me personally.

Also just look at the pic of it that I posted above. It's gorgeous as hell- way beyond a wart. It's worth $20 to me and I am not worried if anybody else agrees quite honestly. Haters gonna hate... Baiters gonna bait.

fishing user avatarrangerjockey reply :

I think it's a regional thing. Since I live on Table Rock I may be more inclined to spend the money on a pre rap wart than others. Personally I don't think anyone has ever duplicated the old wart.. The good news is I don't lose them very often , I think I've broke off one in the last couple years so even if I pay a premium for a good color or have Tim Hughes or Fall Creek customs paint one it's still worth it to me .

I've heard the predator blank is about the closest to the pre rap yet...

Might be worth giving one of these a shot though no? Megabass has an excellent reputation for quality and thoughtfulness. For around the same money it does seem to have a lot to offer the wart lover and *should* cast a bit better. I honestly can't wait to try them both back to back and see how they compare.

fishing user avatarJ Francho reply :

Not all old warts had the right wobble. Only the bad ones. Which are the good ones. There aren't too many of the good bad ones on the open market.

Same could be said for a lot of crankbaits currently on the market. Go buy 5 cranks (DT's, DD's, XD's, etc...) all in the same color and see if any of them catch fish better than the others. I bet one or two of them work better than the others. I'm sure you already know this, but some others may not. But I see your point. Not many of the old Warts had that perfect hunting action, and now that the mold has changed and they're no longer available, guys have been hoarding up the good ones, myself included. I have bought over 50+ pre-rapala Warts this winter. Once I get on the water and find out which ones work well and which ones don't work well, the duds will be getting sold.

Its nice to see some companies are trying to offer another "hunting" lure (Rapala and the scatter rap, Spro and the RkCrawler, Predator Baits and their copy of the old WW mold, and now Megabass with the SK crank and this SM-X). I still haven't found anything that works the same or as well, but that won't keep me from trying these new baits as well.

Thank you.

fishing user avatarBobby Uhrig reply :

I don't hate I'm a scientific analyzer of products. What makes it proprietary over some other Crankbait.

From the video it didn't give me one absolute reason to purchase it over another crank.

I always look for something distinctive that separates it from others. All baits must have a triggering quality to them or they basically go undetected by the fish

fishing user avatarDogmatic reply :

I don't know, I watch that video, something about that erratic action, It's annoying, it p's me off, I just want to smash it...and I'm not even a fish.

fishing user avatarColdSVT reply :

Really? Dammit man this is why im not allowed to go to certain stores by myself

fishing user avatarA KGB Operative reply :

I felt like I ruffled some feathers with this post over the wiggle warts. Those baits must be up on a pedestal or something. I notice a lot of things change but everyone complains about price. Honestly JDM products I believe shouldn't be bought in mass succession. Buy one, try it out see how you like it. it might be more successful it might not be. One day however, if the lures make it they are eventually going to be put on a wall somewhere. I think I'd prefer cool looking lures for conversational peices then dull ones :) just don't buy 5 because then you're breaking the bank.

fishing user avatarBluebasser86 reply :

Hope the bill doesn't fall off those like it does on their jerkbaits  :Idontknow:

fishing user avatarHooligan reply :

I like the little bait. It's erratic and it dives quickly, it has the right wobble and it has the right thump. Bobby might analyze a bait scientifically, and see no difference between two baits of similar design, and that's ok. What this does different than a lot of small cranks is that it is more erratic and has better deflection than almost all the small cranks in the class.

The finish is better, as well. They're nowhere near as fragile as the pain on a lot of customs, and the bait itself seems very durable in rock.

I think in that particular case you may want to think a little farther into the particular type of "baiting" you'll be doing for a while after dropping that one on the gf haha

Last week I bought one of the new MB S-Cranks in the 1.5 size because the video showed an awesome "hunting" action. First thing I noticed whenever I opened the package up was that the line tie didn't have a split ring on it. Regardless, I tied it directly on (knowing that this would likely effect/kill the action) with a Trilene knot. Sure enough, it came in straight as an arrow with no hunting action at all. I'll give it another try this weekend with either a split ring on it or I'll use a snap swivel. If it still doesn't have the hunting action, I'll be very upset. The thing that gets me with all these videos of these lures "hunting" is who is to say that the guy retrieving the lure isn't doing figure 8's with his rod tip so that the lure looks like its running all over the place?

fishing user avatarJrob78 reply :

Pay attention to how fast the bait is being retrieved. That has everything to do with the action. I think a lot of people fish shallow crankbaits too slowly. I'm sure line size plays a role also.

fishing user avatarBobby Uhrig reply :

Like I told others -Baitfish don't hunt -The  erratic action on that bait is good-nothing I have seen any different than any other crank-As for a real erratic action- That's when they want an erratic action -sometimes slow is better-let the fish tell you how they want it. In the cold weather the bass don't have a large strike zone -at times maybe a foot or two - They are not going to chase it down like in the warm water. So that's why its so important to experiment with retrieves. You need to trigger a reaction strike.

Let me tell ya - Ive been using Norman deep and shallow little N's -I have caught more bass on those crankbaits than all of the big dollar cranks I own combined. Also the Bomber 7A Firetiger-My favorite stained water river bait ever.

I've heard consistantly about these cranks. I have a tackle warehouse order I'm about to make, what color do you think is great? I'm up north. I was thinking jelly bean.

fishing user avatarMaster Bait'r reply :

So I finally remembered to take a picture of both variations of Wart alongside the spriggan for you to see.

It's not exact, but it's darn close.  It does however, look and feel nicer in every way.
