Super Glue/Mend-it 2025

fishing user avatarFishin' Fool reply :

Okay guys I'm a slow leaner but I'm on board now with the Loc-tite gel control to glue the Keitech swimbaits to the head. Fished a tournament on St Clair on Saturday without the glue and went through 4 or 5 swimbaits. Got the glue Saturday night and used the SAME swimbait all Sunday. Now I've heard you all mention this product called Mend-it for fixing torn soft plastics. Is there more than one type? What do I need to know about Mend-it for my soft plastics? It sounds like I could be saving myself hundreds of dollars in Keitechs and Yamamotos. Thanks in advance.

Btw- I had 5 fish for 14.5 pounds on Lake St Clair on Saturday which was 8th/18th. What an awesome fishery we have up here for those that like to chase the smallies.

I use the brand Mend It.  I mostly use it for swimbaits.  Regular plastics I do not use it much on.  Probably should.  It works awesome and will definitely save you some cash.

I haven't researched it yet but I assume from what you're saying there is only one product line for Mend-it?

fishing user avatarMarkH024 reply :

Yes FF, but to be clear here.  Use Mend It to repair your plastics, not secure them. Keep using superglue for the screwlock at the heads of your swimbair or alike.  Mend It only fuses the plastics where they're torn, it will not secure it to a jig or anything.

fishing user avatarfishballer06 reply :

Mark is right. Mend It is for splicing torn plastics back together. It essentially melts the two pieces of plastics into each other. Watch YouTube videos and you'll see exactly how it works.

I use Super Glue to repair the heads on my Keitechs as they get torn up throughout the day. It works great and I have no problem getting multiple fish off one bait now. One word of advice, keep a lighter with you. Eventually you'll have to rip a bait off and the glue left behind (especially in screw locks) can be a pain. A lighter will burn that glue right off for you.

fishing user avatarPreytorien reply :

Glad I found this thread. I need to try Mend It for KVD Caffeine Shads. I haven't found anything I like better than them but I lose too many for it to be my first reach. Mend It + Super Glue might be the tricks I need.

Mark explained it better then I did.  :)

fishing user avatarFishin' Fool reply :

I'm assuming a dot of super glue on the top of your senko would help keep the worm from sliding down the hook shank too? It just seems when it gets hot the senko will tear just from casting.

fishing user avatarfishballer06 reply :

Superglue will help keep any plastic in place better on a hook.

fishing user avatarblckshirt98 reply :

Mend It is awesome, but just be sure to use it in a well ventilated space because that stuff releases vapors that will knock out a horse.  Also with Mend It don't try to stretch apart a torn plastic to try to get the Mend It all the way into the back of a split, because the plastic will start to split even more.  Once it cures however, the plastic is like new.

fishing user avatarKtho reply :

Mend it is just a plastic glue marketed towards fisherman. You could go to a model/craft store and find loads of stuff of that type. I don't like superglue on my stuff so never use it.

obviously you have not used it , it is not a glue , it causes a chemical action to the plastisol that fuses it together ...

fishing user avatarTracker22 reply :

Can you use mend it on all plastics? i.e. Manufacturers, strike king, zman, etc...?

Not on Z-Man's ElaZtech plastics or Strike King 3X ElazTech Plastic but pretty much any thing else.

Especially cost effective on Hudds.

Maybe I'm using a different product then? The one I've used is called Mend-it GLUE. I could be totally wrong in calling it glue but I didn't name it, Mend-it Glue named it glue. The chemical action you're talking about is how plastic glue works...

fishing user avatarA-Jay reply :

Mend-it is good stuff.

But it couldn't help much here ~ :)

i think they are wrong to call it a ''glue'' , cause it only mends plastics , doesn't work like any other glue.

do you still have that ? if you do , i need the eyes for another bait

taken from Mattlures website -

This is Mend-it, the innovative product which actually "welds" soft plastic baits back together. You simply put a drop or two of Mend-It on the rip, tear, or hole in the worm, tube, swimbait or other soft bait and press it together. In a matter of seconds the bait is totally renewed, in most cases you cannot see where the tear was because the repair is so complete. Mend-It is not a glue, it actually catalyses the two pieces of plastic, effectively welding them together.

I routinely retain the remains as there is almost always a need.

It works exactly like other plastic solvent glue/mend/weld. Mend-it just markets it towards fisherman and charges more money.

No where on the Mend-it bottle does the word "glue" appear.

The website has glue in the name and that is the only reference to the word "glue".

fishing user avatarBig bass hunter reply :

Is there anything like mend it for pvc plastic swimbaits like storm wildeye and northern forage swimbaits? I heard it wont work havent had to repair one but im thinking about picking up a few for my trout fishing i really like those four to six inch swimbaits for river trout. Gives me a break from pond hopping

fishing user avatarPreytorien reply :

Well I tried gluing my Z-Man flukes to the hook, and they dissolved. I wasn't expecting that. Anyone else have this issue, and/or a solution?

I have screw locks and a couple Mustad grip pins, those work pretty good, but I was hoping to glue them.

What's strange is that I glued a few TRD's to their Shroomz heads and they didn't dissolve. So I'm wondering if there are subtle differences in their composition between the two.
