Well I am a novice bass fisherman and I fish mostly farm ponds and gravel pits in my area of East Central IL from the bank and I am trying to learn to use the Senko but just can't wrap my head around the best way to fish it. I am currently using weightless T rig method but don't know what to do on the retrieve. Anybody know of a good online video that shows the different methods? I used it for the first time last night with absolutely no luck. I at least got 2 bites with the Fat Ika but absolutely nothing with the Senko in the same color..... watermelon/with black flakes... Air Temp was 61* water temp I would estimate around 47-50*... sunny also
here is all the Senko info you should ever need

dig in
check the faq's, there's pretty much everything you could ever want to know about the senko all in one place.
want to also say that I have looked thru the FAQ but I am a visual learner and don't know how to work the rod to make the bait perform

Try you tube video's on fishing and riggin the senko!
trust me i have done the research but can't translate it to the pond
Quotetrust me i have done the research but can't translate it to the pond
Well, all I can say is you can't fish it wrong! It may be just a color change you may have to make!
im just getting frustrated I have checked youtube... I always check youtube and there isn't a video showing how to work the rod... there a few with people talking you through what to do but I just want to see some one work the rod a little bit
that watermelon/black flake color is deadly. It always gets me a bite when the bass don't want anything that day. I cast it out, and painstakingly slowly drag the worm, let it sit for a few seconds, and then reel in the slack, and drag it again. This works when nothing else does for me. You should give it a try.

Just let it sink and work it slow with the rod! Just short a pull or a short hop of the rod. Are you sure that ther are bass in the pond? Like I said before maybe you need to make a color change! I can't beleave they won't pick up that senko!!!!
pumpkin green with watermelon red flakes works the best anywhere for me. Only way i use a senko is t-rig. Let it sink slowly and twitch it every 20-25 seconds. Sometimes i texas rig it and let it hit the bottom. There is no special rod movement.
Senko ????????????????????????
The Inside Line article by *** describes it perfectly. Here is another that might help:

If you can't figure it out with all the articles we
have referenced, you will need to find someone
that can give you a personal demonstration.

thanks for re-opening...
I am looking for a video that shows the methods because I am such a visual learner... If you guys don't know of any then thats fine I just thought I would ask
So ok I cast the 5'' senko out on my 6'6'' rod with spinning gear and I let it sink for 20 seconds... then I give it a "pop" or a slow raise of the rod tip? how far do I want to raise the tip of my rod?
Since these ponds are not mapped and I am not armed with depth finder and such from the bank what does the Senko do if I wait 20 seconds and it only took 5 seconds to hit the bottom? Does it still have action sitting there?

yes I know for a fact there are bass in the pond cause I caught one on a Fat IKA same color tooo by the way
You know, we have spent some time putting the
Senko reference guide together. Those that have
responded on this thread have taken the time to
post specific articles describing how to fish the bait,
IN DETAIL:
The key to fishing both weightless is - you don't work them, they work for you. Both exhibit a natural, attractive, built-in movement as they simply fall through the water on a semi-slack line. Even deadsticked on bottom without moving a muscle for a surprisingly long time, both are irresistible to bass. If after deadsticking a while, if you haven't gotten a hit yet, simply raise the rod tip slowly, thereby raising your Senko or Fat Ika a few feet off bottom. Then lower the rod tip slowly so your lure again freefalls through the strike zone, fluttering back down to the bottom on a semi-slack line. Again let it rest there for the longest time, which is often when bass bite. Simply pause, lift and let fall repeatedly until you get a bite or until you're ready to cast again to another nearby target.
So...YOU need to spend the time reading
everything we have pointed out to you and stop
asking silly questions...They have All been
addressed in ***'s piece that I just
referenced and MY thread posted earlier.
It just ain't that complicated.
Bill Dance had a good episode on the Senko - it was called "Dinger Slinger". Google that and watch it; it's actually pretty good.
thanks for the help rubba bubba
road warrior,,
for the millionth time I checked the FAQ... I am a visual learner and a video would be a very valuable resource for me... Sorry if asking some questions is against board policy. But no one else is treating me the way you are and I would kindly appreciate it if you cut the attitude and I will do the same to you.
Thank you
These are the questions from your previous post which I was responding to:

You're over thinking a brainless technique. Literally. If its in the water, you're fishing it correctly.
You are making this way too complicated. It's called the "do nothing" bait for a reason. If you are fishing it in the way described in the FAQs and by everyone else and you're still not catching fish, then you aren't putting it where the fish are or they aren't in the mood for a slow soft plastic.
RW is being MUCH more patient that I would have been.

k will do
I didn't bother to say anything until now...
Senko must be the easiest bait to fish, all you need to do is cast it out there and let the bait work itself. Like other folks said, you are making this way too complicated.
Perhaps another hobby? :-?
Do you like golf?
if your pond fishing go with the slim senkos.wacky style it.throw it out and let it sit for about 2 min. at a time and drag it about a foot or two, repeat all the way in.green pumkin with black flake works great.....just keep trying and they will come.
My man, you are wanting/asking for somebody to come and give you a list of instructions on how to work a bait like a senko, there is no such thing as a list of instructions, how much you lift the rod tip, in what angle, in which direction, with how much strength and so on is something that can 't be taught, you have to find out on your own because what works today may not necessarily mean it will work tomorrow, heck what works in the morning may not work in the afternoon, no matter how much you are a visual learner as you call yourself, you have to test and try on your own until you find the retrieve that 's producing the best results and from then you have to repeat every time to obtain consistency.
If my 7 year old son can catch fish on a senko without absolutely no notion on even how to make a knot you can do it.
NO ONE ever learned to fish reading internet articles or watching someone else fish on YouTube. These things are helpful and have their place, but nothing beats time on the water. So grab your rig and go fishing. A lot. And don't obsess on Senkos. I rarely fish stickbaits at all and I get plenty of fish. Throw them something besides a stickbait, you'll be suprised.
for what its worth man...one way to fish it that you already know and can relate to is to fish it like a soft jerk bait.
cast it out let it sink a bit... then jerk three times...let it sink... about 8 to 10 seconds... jerk jerk jerk. repeat.
its not the "classic deadstick" way to fish it... but it works for me that way on occasion. the secret to MOST of the senkos appeal is the fall.
find ways to make it fall. thas pretty much it.
like others said... its mostly just throwing it and coming up with your own way to fish it. there is trully no "wrong" way.
p.s. dont let the short fuses exibited here scare you off the site. this place is great.
you just have no idea how many times a week a "new" senko question is asked on here. ;D
First of all Senkos are not magic and they don't work for everybody. There are some pretty good fishermen who have given up on them. Is this a shallow pond with the bottom covered with weeds or slime? If so then your bait could be out of sight when it is laying on the bottom. If that is the case the dead sticking is not going to work, you will need to move that bait a little faster and keep it up where the bass can see it. If the bottom is not covered with weeds then give up and try a top water. There is a reason those bass won't hit a soft bait fished slowly on the bottom. Fishing is fun, never get frustrated.
i gave them up a while ago since i couldnt catch a cold with one but recently picked them up. now it seems like thats all they want. oh well,im giving it to em.
