Last resort to save a day? 2025

fishing user avatarairborne_angler reply :

Whats everyones last resort when your facing a skunk day. I mean something you absolutely ,positively know you can throw and get fish in the boat?

Mine would have to be a Dropshot.

fishing user avatarWanderLust reply :

A tube is my desperation bait. :)

fishing user avatarJ Francho reply :

I don't actually have a "desperation bait."  If I absolutely knew that something would catch a fish, I'd already used it.

fishing user avatarBrianinMD reply :

Slider head with a finesse worm or 3in senko style bait....

fishing user avatarHot Rod reply :

Soft plastic T Rig with a 1/8oz wt.  and that's all I'm saying  :-X

fishing user avatarbrushhoggin reply :

i'm with Franco. if i had a desperation lure it would be the one i have the most success with and a lure that suits my strong point, but that's usually what i start with for the day.

fishing user avatarGo Time reply :

If I'm COMPLETELY out of ideas, I will throw a spinnerbait till my arm falls off.  ;D

fishing user avatarRevo_Carrot Stix reply :

When all else fails...[getting ready to duck], SENKO.

fishing user avatarMNGeorge reply :

T rigged 3" stick worm with as light a weight as I can get away with.  This rig has always produced, but the reason I don't use it unless I have to is it produces mostly small fish.  Small ones are better than none, but they're not the reason I'm out there, so the big fish presentations get priority until they prove unproductive for that day.

fishing user avatarNice_Bass reply :

I dont change bait. I change location/pattern and somtimes crack a beer.

fishing user avatarMFBAB reply :

Downsize, straight tail worms, etc.

fishing user avatarAlpster reply :

Fly Rod! It might not be a bass, but in the summertime when all else fails, I will catch something. Even a 1/2 lb bluegill or a perch is a blast on a 1wt fly rod.

basically i agree with this. its also the reason i dont believe in so called "search baits" people talk about here.

fishing user avatarGrundleLove reply :

Desperation bait = grabbing a knife, diving into the water and swinging the knife frantically until you get something....or until someone calls the police.

fishing user avatarJ Francho reply :

I use search baits to pre fish.  They don't have hooks, LOL.

fishing user avatarKYntucky Warmouth reply :

I usually chuck a crankbait or slow down with a tube

fishing user avatarOHIO reply :

You're basically asking what our best producing baits are.

Mine is a spinnerbait or buzzbait.

fishing user avatar00 mod reply :

Very small hook, clasp weight and a bobber and catch a bream!  LOL!  Never gotten skunked that way!

fishing user avatarAvalonjohn44 reply :

I all else has failed, there are a few things I do:

Skip Rocks.

Go Swimming.

Turn over a log and see whats underneath.

Then I come back and try a few more different baits after I am relaxed.

fishing user avatarbassfisherjk reply :

Zoom Baby Brush Hog.

fishing user avatarRyneB reply :

My confidet bait is a Crappie color Brovarney swim jig with a pearl zoom salty fat albert single tail grub. If that fails i pick up the 3wt fly rod with a home made foam spider. I have yet to throw that and not get a fish. The only problem is keeping the bluegills off of it.

fishing user avatarJoePhish reply :

Live Bluegill.

Edit: That would mean catching a fish thus not being skunked, ha. Then my answer would be live worm.

fishing user avatarairborne_angler reply :

Ah Ha...So that tells me you all have the same frame of mind as I do. When I get into a bad day of fishing, where it seems like nothing will bite,I do resort to a Dropshot and can almost always at least get bit,but It has saved the day many times.

Now im not afraid to admit that when I cant catch Bass,I switch it up and go after Panfish(Green Sunfish are a hoot on light tackle). I Gotta take a break from time to time when the fish arent biting, and when I do I search for Crawdads.

Hook em correctly to keep em alive and kickin by inserting a long shank hook in the "horn" between the eyes without "blowing it out"(cracking and destroying that membrane)  then fish em

weightless and hang on!! This can be a real fun way to save a day.The craw will swim to the bottom and you can leave a slack line, but watch it like a hawk. Ive had the pole almost pulled into the water when I wasnt paying attention. A way to keep the craws from dgging in under rocks and stuff is to snip off the claws. Never tried it? Give it a shot, its a hoot.

fishing user avatarMunkin reply :

Discontinued black Berkley 3" drop shot worm on a DS rig or sliderhead. This is a dink magnet but a fish is a fish.

Man o man those 3" DS worms from Berkley have seriously saved the day for me. I also used the 3" Power Pulse Drop Shot  worm as well.

Yeah they are dink  magnets. I killed a 100ct bag of those 3" DS worms in one season. Caught every species in the lake. Shellcracker(Redear), Hybrid Sunfish,Bluegill,LMB and even Trout.

I miss those worms.
