How Much Soft Plastic To Carry On The Banks? 2025

So I've found some that catch and some that don't. But find it hard to leave them at home. I like to be prepared. Am I carrying to much? What do you carry?

Only you can be the judge of that question. I carry close to the same amount in my backpack when I'm bank fishing. I generally use 1/3rd of them. BUT WHAT IF that one day I don't have it with me. I'm used to fishing off my boat and that has me spoiled. I carry 2-3 plano boxes filled with an assortment of baits and then my plastics. Plus various tools and such.

I carry a separate pack just for my soft plastics....think of a small sized duffle bag, I just clip it on with a carabiner to my back pack. Prob carrying along a extra 20lbs of weight but hey ya never know what youll need lol ( I fish saltwater too so its a mix of plastics)

I carry all of my plastics with me. I only keep a few bags of plastics as it is. I will tell you that plastics are the heaviest thin in your box, so if you want to get rid of weight, having less plastics will help.

I am not a huge bank fisherman anymore, but a few years ago I would usually carry around one tray of various lures, as I never had a dedicated backpack. Usually baby brush hogs, some gary's/yum dingers, and maybe a few jitterbugs. It was mostly at night after work and I always loved throwing a jitterbug. I think what you have there is a great setup.

I've caught on the trick worms and dingers, but can't decide which one to carry so I carry both and im still expierementing with the flukes. Pack isn't to heavy at all

My whole life has been devoted to fishing as a guide and outdoor writer, but I've always enjoyed fishing from the bank and have put in thousands of hours afoot. I've used a lot of things, and lost a tackle shop full of lures. I've settled on one type of lure and system, because by far it is the most productive for me, and I don't lose tackle. It is a Mann's HardNose worm rigged completely weightless or with Hook Angel weights slid onto the hook shank. I'd post a picture of this rig, but I can't figure out how to download pics from my computer.

I wish I could just carry that much. I just finished paring down to, two and a half Plano 3600's with Senko's and imitators. Plus I carry a B.A.S.S. free tackle bag with plastics in it. I'm not sure I can do with much less!!LOL

I take what I know I may need based on time I intend to fish, I already know what to expect based on time of year. In other words, I take the max I may need for a hot bite, relevant to time of year, and how long I intend to fish, time wise. That's what I do based on pond hopping/bank fishing.. Taking the big boat out, that's completely different...

I don't carry any bags of soft plastics with me, unless Im gonna do some drop-shotting. Which is seldom.

That doesnt look like much at all, the satchel I carry can triple that easily, and it's not a big satchel

Your answer to how much tackle do I carry and what's it weigh.....well decided to weigh my pack one day just to see. Light with minimal tackle....6lb, loaded with a med worm binder with punch jigs included, 2 3600 boxes, attractant, hooks, weights, 2 spare spools FC, water thermometer, pliers, cutters just under 11lbs. Think the lightest it I get is when I'm fishing swimbaits since I only carry 1 deep 3600 and an 8oz bottle of Pro Cure. Then it's only about 3-4lbs.

I go through the plastics in the big bag, and take out 2 or 3 baits of each type. That way I have a little of everything to play with. When I get back home I empty out the hard box and put the baits back in the big bag.

I finally figured out carrying everything I had was never getting used.
If you looked in my SUV right now you'd find three rods all set up and ready for bank fishing either before or after work. No tackle box. No extra lures at all. What is on the rods is all I'm carrying unless I take the boat out, then one tackle box goes usually. And I keep one pair of stainless steel hook removing pliers with me too.
I am only fishing for a couple of hours at most, so that is a factor, and that I have three rods ready to fish is sort of like having backup if I were to lose a lure on one of them, or maybe to try something different. But the days of lugging a ton of stuff I know I won't use are over.
In my tackle box I have one old worm bag with a variety of baits from worms, to swimbaits, and other with room to throw a few extra items in if needed, but I never need them so even the bag on the go stays home most of the time.
If I can't catch some bass with what I take then I have no business fishin' in the first place! I'm doing this for fun, not trying to turn it into a bunch of work!

I don't think you're carrying too much. I carry about that much. Little less, I guess. I have a big plano box w/ all my main baits/colors and backup bags.

I use the Academy H2O deluxe soft tackle bag. I keep a couple of small Plano boxes on the outside pockets with terminal tackle and a few crankbaits. Inside the main flap I keep Senkos, Hags Tornados, Baby Brush Hogs, Rage Craws, and some Keitech Swing Impacts.

In my back pack : 4" & 5" Senkos ( black with blue flake , green pumpkin and watermelon red flake) , Zoom Finesse worms and Trick worms (same basic colors) , 4" & 5" paddle tail swim baits ( pearl white , watermelon and a sexy shad color) , Zoom Super Fluke and Super Fluke Jr. (white ice and pearl white) Berkely Chigger Craw (black with blue flake and green pumpkin ) . Next - various bullet weights , small Spro swivels (flukes) , worm hooks , EWG hooks , tube of Megastrike scent and lastly needle nose pliers .
If I were drop shotting that day instead, I would have various drop shot weights and drop shot worms in smoke , watermelon , green pumpkin and maybe a junebug something with ridges , flappers , etc. on it for moving water in low light or stained water conditions .

Unless it is really killing your back, I'd say load your bag to the brim because you never know what you might encounter.

If Im walking down to the pond , I put one pack in my pocket and an extra hook and weight. If Im going to spend the day wading a river , I wear a vest and will take a half dozen packs .Ill carry a small box with hooks , sinkers, jig heads.

I fish by myself with usually 1 rod from the bank. I rock a fanny pack slung over my shoulder with 4-6 bags of plastics, hemostats, a small 5 sectioned Plano box with weights, hooks and a couple topwater, bug spray and that's it. It sounds like a lot to me typed out but I could fit everying into two pockets. The bag over my shoulder just works better.
