Can I put JJ's in a spray bottle? 2025

OK so I love JJ's but don't love the green hands it often causes. I can live with it but I thought about throwing some JJ's in a empty bottle of KVD's. I didn't know if anybody had tried this or if anybody from JJ's on here would have a recommendation.

I suspect it would mess up the pump. There is a reason it comes in glass bottles.
But, even if it is compatible with a spray bottle, it's not practical. Any excess is lost. With the bottle, dip it, let the excess drip back into the bottle.
I'm hazarding a guess that one half to two thirds will be wasted if you sprayed, rather than dipped.

No, you don't want to do that. JJ's will eat away at the plastic and eventually turn a weird shade of yellow. Plus it can permeate the plastic and seep out. That's why it comes in a glass jar.

I wish it was that simple. I don't pre dip because I like the really strong smell it puts off. I know the smell is permanent but IMHO it's still stronger it's first hour or so. I go threw close to a pack of ragetail craws a day thanks to the bluegill. So I'm always putting on a new one and I end up dipping several times a day. Then this stuff can gas up and drip off the lid onto you as well. I'd say I'm loosing close to half my JJ's to it gassing up and yes it's in a cooler. So it would be nice to find a spray bottle solution. It would be tough to work it as a die but for the clear it would be perfect.

Seems to me you don't need to use jj's go get yourself some Carolina lunker sauce and save you some trouble.I'm think if it would eat plastic then you don't need to put it on a plastic bait or it would eat it.

I pre-dip exclusively. I still have some plastics stored
in sealed bags that were dipped during the Guntersville
Roadtrip in March, 2008! Dipping outside, at home, results
in zero mess and waste.
Generally, I use JJ's on jig trailers, MegaStrike on all other
plastics. I like both products and HIGHLY recommend them
to everyone.

why not pour a teeny bit of clear jj's into the rage package before you go out and then you have all of them treated and if you feel the need to re-apply, you can dip your bait back into the package.

what was the issue with heat? I know it's supposed to be stored in a cool place.... and somehow I forgot about mine and found it in the garage last night. (it's been about 110+ in there for a week)

Keith, if the bottle hasn't already spewed its guts into your garage (ala Long Mike last year), I would cool the bottle down before opening. I am talking "ice" cold before opening....

I can't say for unopened bottles but previously opened bottles will start fizzing out from under the cap. If one starts doing that

JJs seems like too much work for me. I don't want to read an MSDS, wear PPE, and take 5 prevenative steps to use a garlic dye and keep it from exploding. If it eats away at the plastic so easily what about any that would touch your line? Since it supposedly hardly ever washes off, would it not sit there and eat at your line? They make plastic (HPDE) bottles that are chemically resistant to almost anything. If it couldn't be put in those then Im suprised they'd even let the stuff out on the water. Spray is definately easier, but true it does waste some. I have some of the spike-it that comes in both aerosol and dips (which I feel works just as good by the way). Definately less of a worry with the aerosol but there is some overspray waste (and you have to make sure you do it on the downwind side of the boat).

Definitely an extreme exaggeration. JJ's isn't poison. I mean, I wouldn't eat it, but neither would I ingest Power Bait or Senkos either. :

I keep my JJ's in the top portion of my tackle box but I make sure I keep the lid (of box and jar) closed. Mine fizzes a little bit when it's 90 degrees out but never fizzes over the top. Just bubbles a second and then it's fine. Key is to keep it out of direct sunlight for any length of time.

Usually in a fridge or left in the cooler until the next days fishing.
By the way RW we like our JJ's strong. We go as far as to re dipping this stuff. I know it still smells but I swear I'll go without a bite for a couple hours and then re dip and BAM!!

I agree with most opinions presented but would not pour JJ's directly in a plastic bag because it will permeate any plastic bag far too easy, plus leaving the bait in the chemical too long will cause ill effects to the plastisol.
I keep extra empty bottles and with every new bottle I purchase, I pour 1/2 into the empty and take only a 1/2 bottle on the boat. The chemical has more room to breathe and rarely gets on my hands with this set up....My bottle is Half Full ;D Now that's a positive thought.
BTW, I like Mega Strike as well and especially on Big worms at night.

All plastics are not created equal. Styrofoam is a plastic, yet fiberglass gel coat resins will dissolve it. The gel coat comes in plastic buckets.
JJ's will dissolve or degrade some plastics. It ate up a trailer on my chatterfrog, but does not eat up any of the rage tails or *** on which I've used it.
Regarding the cap being plastic. That is true, but it is a hard, brittle plastic, unlike the parts in a spray bottle.
I did not say it "would" eat up the components, I said it "might".
But, it is not a simple plastic cap with some type of cardboard "gasket". There is a special device somewhat like a diaphragm, that seals the contents. Whether it allows for expansion, or controls the pressure allowing excess to escape I do not know.
My experience. I have gotten some on my hands, leaving pretty red blotches, which, for me anyway, disappear with the application of soap and water.
My wife has said nothing about me smelling like garlic.
I think some of the stories are the kind of stuff which becomes urban legend.
I don't take a cooler with me. Four bottles sit in a cut down half gallon OJ container. It's impervious to water, costs nothing and is the right size when carboard dividers are placed between the bottles.
The bottles are kept under the seat I'm on, and therefore in the shade. I see no indication the stuff is fizzing off or evaporating.
