Curious if anyone is using the Bass Mafia Coffin box (the shallow one) to store their terminal tackle? I have been using the standard plano 3700 and am getting annoyed with all my stuff sliding and hopping over or under the dividers. Just curious is this thing might be the answer to my problems? Would like some feedback based on real experiences before pulling the trigger on a $30 plastic box!
Thanks!
That's a nice looking box what are the dimensions on the squares??
I'm thinking one for topwater, one for shallow cranks, one for 4'/6' cranks, one for deep 10' cranks.+ more and a soft sided tackle bag to carry it.
Not sure Bill, but TW lists these Dimensions: 8.5" x 14.25" x 2" for the box.
I'm pretty happy with the storage of my other baits the way i have them. BUT the terminal tackle in the plano is just not working out for me. Not to mention at $30 a pop I don't want to buy a bunch of them. Just hoping one might suit my needs for the terminal storage!
I want one for terminal tackle as I read it was great for it. Can make the compartments small which is great as you don't need 2 inches for 5 dropshot weights. Allows you to carry more and keep it organized.
no way, man. If you buy those you'll nothing left over for baits. Then you're stuck with a bunch of useless, empty boxes.
Idk...but Cabelas has a 3700Deep for $20....might be worth it for that...although I don't think I need the deep version for terminal.
I'm with you on needing tighter dividers. Especially for my kayak 360 that gets tossed around a lot more than my boat bag
Nevermind...its less at tw...I thought I was looking at a 'deal'
Take 2 pieces of that rubber mat that you use in toolbox drawers and cut it to size. Then use spray adhesive to glue it to the lid. Nothing gets mixed up anymore. I use two of the thin 3701 boxes for terminal tackle that I did that with.On 9/17/2015 at 3:41 AM, buzzed bait said:Curious if anyone is using the Bass Mafia Coffin box (the shallow one) to store their terminal tackle? Great idea. And then, you'd get the added benefit that the Mafia guys talk about that nobody can peek into your box through the cover.
But, seriously...that is a good idea.
That's a solid idea there. You ever have them slide under the dividers after putting the liner on the top? My tackle somehow goes over and under the dividers! On 9/17/2015 at 4:39 AM, rippin-lips said:Take 2 pieces of that rubber mat that you use in toolbox drawers and cut it to size. No, not when I use 2 pieces. It's a nice tight fit when the lid is closed. There's enough of a gap to let the dividers move when you close the lid without using the mat. I experienced the same thing myself. Using 1 piece works ok, but every once in awhile I'd have something move. I use the thin boxes so I'm not sure on the regular ones. Just start with 2 and see if you need more.
On the kayak I've been trying to keep things pretty light. I have been using 1 - 3500 stowaway waterproof box (the blue one) for terminal tackle and 1 - 3700 red stowaway waterproof box for the rest. It has been working out pretty well. Back when I was shore fishing a lot I used a plano 3771 (its half height and has a ton of little dividers) for my terminal tackle. Works out pretty well.
Tackle storage is a problem fishing from shore. I want to take every lure in different colors, sizes, depths. The arsenal comes with me hard baits, soft baits, spinning baits everything. I need a decent tackle storage setup. Maybe a bench type seat on wheels with tackle storage under the seat. Then I can sit down and fish.
I can't carry five tackle boxes anymore. I guess I carry way to much stuff.
I had one of the mafia boxes..nice box but kinda heavy for my liking..not to mention the price tag for a box.
This is the solution

I thought so too, until I started looking more closely at it. I've got waaaay to many different styles of hooks and weights to fit into one of those. My solution was switching to the 3701 which is half the thickness of a regular 3700 box. I think they're still a little too deep, but I've got one for hooks and one for sinkers.Without any modifying, I haven't had a problem with anything slipping over or under the dividers.
The bass mafia boxes are great. I use 3 of them one for terminal tackle, one for most used baits( like a do all box) and one of the deep ones for bigger stuff. I can grab these three boxes when in a hurry or fishing with someone else and cover most situations that occur. They are pricey but bulletproof. I will say this though. The first one I bought has a tighter fit for the dividers than the next 2 I ordered. Don't know if they changed specs or suppliers or what but they are still great boxes

That was my problem as well. I solved that by reducing the number of styles and sizes of hooks and weights down to items I actually use regularly. I got rid of a bunch of stuff that I carried around "just in case".
Thanks for all the feedback guys. Think I'll try Adam's suggestion on the liners. If that doesn't solve it, may look to these coffin boxes.
Thanks!

I thought of that, but I still had too many. Even between just drop shot, ewg, and swimbait hooks, I was already past what the Plano TFO could keep organized so I had to find an alternative.
i like the shallow versions of the 3600 and 3700 for terminal tackle storage. holds plenty of stuff and the shallow sides make it much easier to reach in and grab a single sinker, hook, or swivel. things hardly ever slide under, but if you have that problem, a buddy of mine uses a hot glue gun to glue the dividers in and close up the gap, and then if for some reason you want to move the dividers, you slice the glue with a razor and it comes right out. another solution is to buy an o ring assortment from autozone or other parts store. i had one that came in a 3700 size shallow box with molded in dividers, so no worries about stuff sliding under

I use the 3701s for my terminals. But for all my 3700s I've found that I pinch the dividers on the sides a little with some pliers and it wedges in the slots better so they don't jump, helps the hooks from sliding under much better.

I've made a serious effort over the last couple of years to trim down the amount of stuff I carry around. One some areas I've made some progress, but overall it's been a miserable failure. I still pack around way too much stuff.
You being a guide, this is something you wouldn't even consider. You no doubt use all of the stuff you carry. I really did not.
Another thing is, I use a t-rig, c-rig, drop-shot, etc a lot less these days. I put most of my plastics on some kind of jighead. I have 3 3700 boxes full of jigheads. Several sizes each of quite a few different varieties. No way I could trim that selection down to fit in one of those hook & sinker boxes.
Yes i use them, and yes i love them. Great way to stay organized

I hear ya! I've tried and failed to narrow down my selections. Even being a guide, I have stuff I don't use. For me though, I live in an area where within about an hour radius from my house, there are roughly 100 different lakes. So for me one day I might be out on a lake with 12' of visibility chasing smallies, and the next I'm fishing a mud puddle going for the green ones. That's the thing about organizing, it's all about trying to find something that works for you as an individual and it sounds like we've both got something that works for us
Ok, so I had the exact same problem with my terminal tackle sliding all around. I tried a water proof plano that some had said would prevent the smaller tackle like micro swivels and split rings from jumping the dividers. It did not work, the second I put the box in my tackle bag stuff would start getting all jumbled especially if it was rough on the water. After dealing with this for a couple months, reorganizing all the time, I bit the bullet and bought the Bait Coffin. I was told again this was the ultimate and I would not have to worry about stuff moving. Well guess what? It still did it. At this point I wasn't ready just to let the box sit because it is a very nice box, so I did the rubber mat mod. This worked really well and stuff no longer shifts.
