Gotta get this you guys..Doug Hannon Reel video 2025

fishing user avatarKeithscatch reply :

This is as cool as it gets. Doug Hannon has come out with a reel video fish player to watch his videos on your computer. Check it out here: http://www.bassprofessor.com

I watched his first video about when big bass bite. Mid day. Pretty cool.

For the benefit of those who can't or choose not to download Doug's video,

I'll give you a brief synopsis.

Doug's main theme as you've heard so many times before from Roadwarrior (myself and others)

is that the prime feeding period of big bass is the "middle of the day" (10am to 4pm) and not during crepuscular times.

Crepuscular means twilight (dawn and dusk). His explanation is very plausible.

Doug maintains that super predators feed most efficiently and enthusiatically when their visibility is likewise most efficient.

For instance, most live bait fisherman will tell you that the best time to fish live shiners is during midday.

On the other hand, many anglers who fish artificial lures will tell you that twilight is better than midday.

My question would be, are the lure fishermen referring to BIG bass or just bass in general?

Doug holds that "Big Bass" do not feed enthusiastically during low-light periods, however during periods of poor lighting

the flaws in the presentation of an artificial lure are much harder to detect. Very interesting but really nothing new.

This is more of a video player that is shaped like a fishing reel that shows new video's every day or every week? It is free and pretty cool. Just something else to occupy our time.

fishing user avatarKU_Bassmaster. reply :

Pretty cool.  I agree 100% with that first "episode".  I posted this back in March and it looks like there is a lot of supporting evidence.

Thanks for defining that, I was about to reach for a dictionary. Always love learning a new word.

fishing user avatarKeithscatch reply :

Not to hijack my thread here but my PB was caught at 8:30pm in September at dusk. But the video sure is cool.

fishing user avatarsirmo reply :

I like this guys take on things.  He's not quick to jump to conclusions with something we can never unerstan d fully.  He helps identify and point out the basics.....the commons....

Looking forward to the upcoming editions.

Thanks!

When ANYTHING might work, this thing might, too. This reminds me of the Kick-Tail.

fishing user avatarLightninrod reply :

I fish from about 10 AM to 4 PM 95% of the time.  All my Bass, including my PB(a 9 lber) were caught in the "middle of the day". :o

fishing user avatarKU_Bassmaster. reply :

These videos have been GREAT!!!!!  I look forward to them everday now. 8-)

I found today's pretty interesting about how much weight (in eggs) a bass puts on in the spawn.  I have heard/read that it is feasible that a 10 lbs bass can pack on 2 to 3 lbs when full of eggs.  According to his research that is pretty much false.

Also the ideal temperature thing was interesting as well.  I wonder if this pertains to both strains of largemouth??

So far, according to Douh Hannon, the best time to go fishing for BIG bass is in the middle of the day, in the middle of the summer, on a sunny day.

fishing user avatarGAMEOVER reply :

This player is pretty neat but I cant get past episodes to load.

fishing user avatarRoLo reply :

Doug is sharp, he's got a good thing going.

If you bought his old book, "Big Bass Magic" (published in 1986),

you can rest assured that every tip in that book will be drawn out on the {Reel Screen}.

When "Doug's Elite Gear Tackle Box" is up-and-running, it will become obvious why this freebie was offered.

Not to worry, the "Uninstall" option is a right-click on the task-tray icon 2vrolijk_08.gif

Good thinking!

After downloading the applet on October 18th, 'Spyware Detector' located and quarantined "7" worms.

However, I have no record as to the source of those worms.

There's only one thing we can hang our hats on....There Ain't No Free Lunch ;D

i'm running ad aware as we speak.

i don't doubt that he has some tracking embedded in there, but i would hate to  think your worm infestation came from ole doug.

LAME. No options for Mac users. Not even a "we're sorry" message in the FAQ's. Wow, for a "professor", Hannon just doesn't get it.

Besides, it's video. That's it. There's no reason (at all) to have to download some fish-imitating virus-vessel software when all that's needed for this is a simple web page with an embedded video player. C'mon...in this day and age, school children can write cross-browser, cross-platform, standards-compliant web pages. Jeez.

</soapbox>

EDIT: I guess one possible reason for creating the downloadable app instead of embedding the video in a web page is to make sure that folks don't steal the videos themselves. So that does make sense, but it still annoys me that there's no Mac solution.

Drums, you can buy Doug Hannon's old book, "Big Bass Magic" on Amazon.com for $9.84

I'm willing to bet that every tip that he discloses will be in there, and a whole lot more (I've bought it almost 20 years ago).

The book isn't bad but I don't agree with several of his ideas. Doug has since turned into a salesman (another Bill Dance).

By the way, about 3 weeks ago I seen Doug Hannon's Snake Truck about 12 minutes from my house.

It's the second time I seen it there, so either he or his crew is fishing the Kissimmee River (not the lake).

Cool, thanks for the info Roger, I'll definitely have to look into it. I have a couple "classic" bass fishing books -- Roland Martin's book, Homer Circle's book -- so Hannon's book will likely be a great addition to the library.

Thanks,

-Rich

fishing user avatarBD reply :

yurs, did you find anything suspect?

fishing user avatarRoLo reply :

No big deal, but the proofreaders have fallen asleep on the job.

About 1/3 through the latest clip (winter bass), Doug said that the bass's metabolism

slows down in "summer", but of course he meant to say "winter".
