Which brand of soft plastic frogs do you all prefer?? Do you all prefer to rig them with EWG or screw lock hooks? Weightless or weighted?
thanks
I personally prefer the ZOOM Horney Toads - mostly because I am a fan of most ZOOM products and the price is right - but I have used other brands as well and have not found any that I truly don't like.
I usually rig 'em on a 4/0 hook EWG (the same one I would use for other soft plastics - that way I can switch up if I need to), weightless and fish 'em over the tops of weeds and along bank edges early and late in the day.
Can't go wrong with the Zooms.
I also like the money frogs. Fairly touch. Cast a long way too.
Mann's hardnose frogs.
Let me preface this that I am a certifiable frogaholic:
I use the Zoom Horny Toads, and I rig them on a HEAVY-WIRE 4/0 EWG style of hook.
To me, you're usually fishing these on open lanes between weeds, or over the tops of sub-emergent weeds, so often fish will attack, then turn and dive, trying to ball you up in the weeds, so you need a heavy-wire hook [that will not bend], a braided line [preferably for this technique], and a stout rod with good backbone to haul them up and out of the slop before they bury themselves up in the weed.
This is NO time for light line and finesse rods, IMHO.
I like Zoom Horny Toads as well. As for a hook I like to use the Zoom frog hooks or something similar. It makes it easy to rig and also it holds up better in my opinion.
RAGE Frogs all the way. Unique sound, plus everyone around here throws horny toads, so that different sound always gets me a few more strikes than the guys with me. I went to Ribbit frogs for a while... I do like the horny toad hook by zoom, but looking now at the trokar screw in line.
i have said it before and i'll say it again when asked , CANYON PLASTICS 4.5'' frog are in my opinion , the most versatile frogs made . i have caught some of my biggest bass on these frogs . here they are and the hooks (OWNER TWISTLOCKS in 5/0) i use for them or any other soft plastic frogs . btw, i replace the CPS (centering pin spring ) that come with the 5/0 hooks with the larger ones (1/4'' ones)
Stanley Ribbits. I cant wait to try them on their new double take frog hooks. Weighted for more casting distance. Also makes them sit in the water a little lower for more sound from the legs.

If they are only slapping at the tails, don't be afraid to put a treble hook behind your single EWG hook.
Zoom Horny Toads,4#EWG hook.

Awesome! I too use the Ribbits and have tried the various "double" frog hooks and they simply do not work. I hope these are easy to rig and use.

Rage tail toads, too!

Rage Toads and although they are not technically frogs, Rage Shads.
Rage Toads for when I'm burning across pads and grass. SPRO for when I'm pitching under docks and trees.

Absolutely. And, to me, you can't buy this rod. Which is why I build my own frog rods. They are lightyears better than store boughts. Reminds me. I need to get some pics of my latest.
Do these float at rest, or slowly sink like the rage frogs?

Where do you purchase the double-take Stanley hooks? I went to the website provided and didn't see a place to purchase them...

That is a good question that I don't know the answer to! I get them through a group purchase on Stanley equipment, but that is only for our club members. I would try sending them an email

Rage Tail toads are the only one's I throw. I have caught over 200 bass on them in the last two years.
I'm a HUGE rage fan but I have been extremely disappointed with their toads. I think ribbits work better.
Love me some soft plastic frogs. Zoom Toads, Gambler Cane Toads, Rage Shad (technically not a toad, who cares), some local hand pours, etc etc. For the most part I use a 4/0 Twist Lock, occasionally a 5/0.
I only started using them last season, but I love the Rage Toads. The bass explode on them viciously. I use unweighted screw-lock type hooks.
I throw Rage Toads in vegetation when there is pockets and lanes. I throw a Bog Baits frog when fishing thick mats. Love them both. If fish are very active and hitting anything, ill throw a Zoom or ribbit frog to conserve my Rage toad stock.
