I recently read where when bank fishing you should never wear bright colors as this can scare away the fish. If this is in fact the case what about from the boat? I have seen where guys wear yellow, orange, white, and red tournament jerseys. Should not the same theory hold true if in fact that theory is true?
I don’t think wearing bright clothes in a boat will have the same effect as it would from the bank. Most banks the fisherman is standing almost water level. If a fish is shallow it could be looking for bait at the shoreline and you could be a few feet away.
In a boat, even guys who fish extremely shallow at the shoreline still keep their boats a good 15-25 ft away.
Which would be easier for you to detect while swimming under water with goggles on, someone standing right on the edge of the pool a foot away from you or someone standing in a chair at the edge of a pool 20 feet away?
I avoid bright colors . Do they scare bass . I cant answer that . I do know , however , that they spook pressured carp .
This is what I use every time I’m at a pond bass think I’m a tree get em every time!
I'm much, much, much more concerned about movement than color.
Most of my fishing is done in 8' of gin clear water or less. I'm a huge believer in a stealthy approach. My clothing is background or sky colors, my chrome trolling motor shaft is wrapped, and I would never own a red, yellow or orange boat. If you watch many of the televised bass fishing events you will see that I am in the minority.
Doug Hannon caught more than 400 bass over 10 pounds in his career in less than 3' of water. He wore camouflaged clothing and his small tin boat was also painted camo.

Lol, you guys are the best!
I don't think it matters for bass, maybe at a trout stream. I make long casts, and most bass caught on the initial fall, or shortly after. Can't see me at the end of a 30 yard cast. I wear whatever is clean that day! Lol
I had a great day last year wearing a bright chartreuse shirt. I don't worry about it.
All I own is brown or khakis, so all set here
All kidding aside bank fishing darker colors are better and it’s a fact at least in my book of bank fishing facts.

You know what let me correct myself here it matters mainly if your fishing beds otherwise it really doesn’t matter.
If the sight of a 20ft long boat, and a running gas or electric motor doesn’t spook them, I can’t see that your fashion choice in clothing is going to scare the fish. You might startle other anglers more than the bass.
I never took much stock in that. I had a bright yellow Triton for a few years and never felt it helped or hurt my catching. If a 21' yellow hull moving around doesn't spook them my shirt won't matter.
With bed fishing on the bank it matters as a matter of fact I was bed fishing yesterday with a white shirt every time I would aprouch the bed he would take off today I went with a black sweater and I would aprouch the exact same bedding bass and he wouldn’t take off as quickly I believe it matters. And @Bluebasser86 I never seen you wearing a chartuse shirt lol.
I think it’s different for boat fisher man because you guys are on the water as apposed to the bank because they are used to predictors trying to grab them from the bank.
I got one today too not a giant but
nonetheless.

No, your clothing color does not matter to bass, at all.
There is a theory that you may want to match the background. From a boat same thing bluebird days light blues and whites but I think it would be so minimum of a difference.
I guess if it was a high maintenance girl on her bed you may want to rollup in some nice duds, maybe a Rolex on your wrist offer her a coach bag . Wait we are talking about fish lol I guess a vision 110 or a deps bait could be like a Louis Vuitton and a smithwick rogue is like a 9west.
It's all preference if you ask me. I'm kinda superstitious and i have to wear the same brand shorts, shirts and flip flops or shoes.
I think keeping your shadow off them is much more of a concern. I’ve seen bass shallow looking at me, but still ate, but when my shadow went over them they spooked, and I saw some in very shallow and clear water spook when a birds shadow went over.
I got this one in pre order for the fall im gonna slay em!!!!
I got a brown yak to look like a log and wear lite blue tackle warehouse longslevee shirts a lot. Figure I would try for every advantage. The debate is simular to the braid to leader or strait braid groups. They may even be the same groups.
I always wear blue ,grey ,or camo. Seems to work for me. I used to always wear white shirts because they seemed cooler , but overall, I catch more now. Maybe Im just a better fisherman now ?????
Naw, it must be the colors.

Definitely the colors. I started wearing a sky blue T-shirt and camo shorts about the same time I joined here, those color choices really improved my catches!
I wear browns, blues and greens when shore fishing. No bright un-natural colors. I don't know if it makes a difference or not.
I take any advantage I can get, real or imagined, when fishing.
I wear nothing but sunscreen and one sock but I'm not telling where I wear it
A trout can see a fly in the air and leap up to pick it off. Can it see us on the bank? Probably. Can a bass? Possibly. I try to wear camo when I do bank fish and leave the 70's disco get up back in the truck.
As far as in my boat, I caught them 50' feet away and some almost under the boat in 4' of water. I can say that I dont catch many close to the boat. Also, my catch percentage is way low when Im casting a shadow. As soon as I move and cast in the same spot, my catch ratio increases.

Is it that sun screen from total recall that is more like paint. One can only hope
I think we've officially ran out of things to talk about.
