I know, I know, another Senko thread... I've read the arguments between different brands of plastics, but what "other" stick bait, do you find to be most comparable to the Yamamoto Yamasenko in action, fall rate, and pliability/softness of plastic? I'm just curious of your thoughts. I use lots of different plastics, and am up to try anything.
Every stickbait is different, the Yamamoto senko is pretty unique. When someone finds a senko that has the same action as a Yamamoto senko for cheap hook me up! Not saying their stickbait is the best but it definitely has its own unique characteristics.
Zman zinkerz. Won't tear up. Cut them in half and use them on a Ned Rig.
Well the past two weeks I have been using the Havoc Flat Dawg. It's definitely not the same as a senko but it is becoming my new favorite stick bait style of worm.
I'm interested in trying that and the Money Maker. Pretty cheap, just need to find a color I like to start. How fast does it fall weightless wacky? On 8/2/2015 at 10:05 AM, Jon G said:Well the past two weeks I have been using the Havoc Flat Dawg. I haven't played with it wacky yet (I hate fishing wacky) but Texas rig wise, I want to say it falls maybe a hair slower (haven't fished a GY Senko in a while) It has the same durability as a GY senko though. I don't know but I really like it it has a tad more action than they GY as well.
My favorite color is Cinnamon Purple Fleck
I don't know if they still sponser BR, but this is a very close bait to a senko...

I tried senkos, even caught me some fish on them. But to this day I go with a zoom trick worm rigged on a 1/0 gammy round bend. I have way to much confidence in this setup to have a need to grab a senko. That is just me, and part of what makes me different. I also like to be different, so that rules out senkos for me today. Every time I go out to a well fished lake, it's like every one has a senko.
I know a 1/0 hook is a bit small for a 6 3/4" worm, but I think the action that small hook gives the worm sets it off in the water. It has a slow horizontal fall and a nice shimmy when you let it drop. When you twitch it, it is the most erratic jerkbait I know of. This thing will dart in every direction, including away from you. So if you twitch it to fast, the fish can miss the worm completely because of the random action. I have hooked a few fish in the side when I seen then flash at the worm.
It's a setup best fished slow, and one that I have way to much confidence in to have a reason to throw a senko. I fish it in shallow clear water, in two main colors white and bubble gum. Small hook, and reaction color I think are two big keys to making it work as effective as it does.
Have a custom bait make make them in soft plastic with NO salt. Then use a 1/16 weighted hook.
Soft and jiggly with same fall rate and more durable.
Or contact Bick Baits (no affiliation) They make a salted stick that is exactly like a real Senko. Great craws too

Rather than trying to find another Senko type bait, use a different style worm all together. Lots of stick baits out there, but I don't think another actual Senko is available. They flat work so why bother is my take. If I'm not using a Senko, I'm using a Jackall Flick shake and would encourage you to try them. Only two worms I even bother with rigged various ways. Neither have been duplicated to perfection and will catch fish when everything else fails.
I have become a big fan of the big bite baits trick stick. They cast just as far, loaded with salt and most important they have a similar fall rate. I still like Yamamoto senkos but they are so d**n expensive
I yet to find an equal to the senko and I have tried several. The closest has been the yum dinger but I don't like the bait hook cut out on the top of the bait. BPS version is not too bad, along with Gander Mountains.
I use different brands of stickbaits due to different colors.
Gambler ACE electric blue
BPS stiko red amber flake
Mister Twister comida
Others too
BPS offers different lengths and diameters too. (7 1/4")
The BPS STIK O WORMS work as good as senkos, they last longer. I use different brands of senkos type baits.
Color, length and size matters.
Experiment people take your time. While one may work for a few fish a different one may load the boat.
Don't be happy with a few fish. Try changing colors, baits, presentations.
No scent on the first cast. If I miss the strike I use scent on the second cast then it's 100% hookup.
I love my YUM Dingers and are more durable than Senko or Flat Dawgs (which I like too)
I use the Trick Stick by Big Bite. I have some old purple Kinami stick worms. But I understand they're really made by Yamamoto.
Keitech Salty Core Stick. Works for me.
Kinami Flash is the closest thing you´ll get to a real senko.
Just about every company offers a senko bait. Just find one you like and fish it. Or fish them all
I've not done the side-by-side research myself, but I've seen quite a few posts where lots of folks say the Bass Pro Stick-o worms are their favorite non-Senko stickbait. Their claim was from a salt content and action perspective...
I have been known in the past to be a "Senko Hater" (not directed towards Senko lover^), but I'm about two seconds away from ordering wacky rig supplies. I'm gonna go for the Lunker City Spanky.
I like BPS stick-o
Lmao! Didn't Kinami go under? On 8/3/2015 at 1:25 AM, Raul said:Kinami Flash is the closest thing you´ll get to a real senko.

Mine are very old
The Strike King Ocho is very close. Plus they smell good.
I use a 1/8oz brass bullet weight on my Carolina rig with a 24" leader.
With a eagle claw 249w weedless hook in 9' of water from shore.
I either keep the line taunt and follow the bait down waiting for the slightest nibble. Or twitch the rod tip as it falls, working it.

The bps ones are cheap last a while and you get a bunch in a pack.

Kinami baits was Derek Yamamoto , Gary Yamamoto is his Dad ...
I've used BB Cane Sticks, never the Trick Stick. Gander Mt makes some w/O-rings already inserted too I think that are the same as the Trick Stick. Do you guys find that O-rings affect the action or fall rate, or even the hookup rate?
Strike King - comes in a pack of 5 or so at WM ... Good basic color selection plus sweet potato swirl color which is unique and catches bass .
relatively speaking if you are looking for something as close to possible to the senko as a senko I'd just use a senko. stock up on them during a sale, and you'll be in heaven. I like dingers better myself. I fish the heck out of them, and they hold up better. I am also cheap, so 2 bucks a pack vs 7 always wins out for me.
another option is to buy a mold and handpour some baits yourself and experiment with the plastisol and come up with your own take on how soft , firm , or what different colors you like
In my mind the Yamamoto is hands down the best!!! But it is spendy! So I have found the Gander Mountains name brand is just as good and a lot cheaper
An option for me that has all but replaced the Senko. The Zoom magnum finesse worn has great action, Is a ton more durable, Is quite cheap, and they catch fish.
I've never used a Senko. To expensive. I have went through hundreds of those stiff Luck E Jogger worms.
