I know this has been talked about before but couldn't find the thread to add on so....
Absolutely love the black Colorado blade one for night fishing. Caught 25 in under 3hrs one night and just tonight caught 12 in 2hrs. Durability isn't amazing but I have bent these back into shape multiple times and only have to replace one when the skirt slides off too many times and can't be salvaged.
But for $1 ??? No better value out there.

Agreed. Most bang for your buck. And if you fish in some pretty rough places like I do its better to buy that $1 spinner bait and lose that then buy the $7 spinner bait and lose that.
Use the cheap zip tie trick Catt speaks of on the skirt. And to get really fancy change the swivel out for a quality Sampo or Worth ball bearing ones will make them much better for a small upgrade price.
But yeah I've seen many fish caught with them just the way they were sold.
These $1 spinnerbaits are much better than most people give them credit.I tend to use them in places I might lose my more expensive spinnerbaits and there has been times these $1 spinnerbaits actually outfish the better quality ones.
Never seen a black large Colorado blade on one - the WM's near me sell some pretty funky color combos - even if I try to imagine them in shades of grey they still look pretty funky with yellow & green skirts , etc.
I've used the black single Colorado ones at night too. They are a great slightly smaller alternative to the ones I normally use and get bites some of the bigger ones wont. I do a couple of mods on mine. I use a black zip tie on the skirt so the band won't break and sharpen the hook a little with a file. Also it's not really a mod but at night I prefer rattles on my spinner baits and a trailer with a little bulk to help the fish find the bait. I always use a beaver or small paddle tail with a glass rattle or two inserted in it for a trailer.
One year I found them clearing some out for $0.75. I bought the last few they had and switched some blades on some. Cheapest fish catching investment I believe I've ever made haha. I wish they sold them in something other than 1/4 oz though
i bought a few a while back but never used them. then a few weeks ago i went on vacation and was gearing up. i packed everything and saw i had a walmart black spinner (double willow) sitting all lonely that i decided i wasnt going to bring. it looked all sad at me so i decided to sneak out at night and toss it around with wild abandon not caring if i lost it or not. next thing i know i was hooking up on some big bass and ive been a believer ever since.
Caught the first 2 dozen or so fish of this year off one back in early spring. That $1 spinnerbait will catch em just as well as a $10 one. Best value in fishing, IMO.
I use Siebert Cosmic spinnerbaits. They're $5, have an Owner Cutting Point hook, a hand wire-tied (custom, if you want) skirt, and I don't need to bust out a new swivel, and a zip tie for it to work. Oh, they come in several sizes. I can't see myself ever throwing a 1/4 oz. spinnerbait, anyway.
I won't get into the whole how bad walmartz is for local and small biz. Trust me, you are getting your money's worth with a Cosmic bait. They also happen to be a site sponsor, and no, I do not get a discount.
If you're still looking for a good, inexpensive spinnerbait, DSG sells a Strike King Premier for under $5, and it comes with a nice "perfect skirt" and a trailer hook. I like these too, almost better than Mike's for fishing rock and rip rap. The head shape deflects nicely.

These $1 spinnerbaits are one of the best value lures in the market today.Got a whole bunch of them in different colors and they all catch fish for me.
I have a box full of spinnerbaits and I can't tell brands unless they are stamped, but I do have a bunch of the ,99 spinnerbaits which I can tell from the others because of the bearing not being a stainless ball bearing. Does this matter? I have never noticed much of a difference, I think I catch more fish on cheaper spinnerbaits because I am not afraid to cast them onto the bank or try to make that perfect cast since losing them does not hurt as much.
I do notice a difference on the bigger sized spinnerbaits since the inexpensive versions seem to roll to the side at times, but I have had $10 Terminator spinnerbaits bend on one mudfish and be ruined. I do prefer the Strike King Spinnerbaits and BPS brand for clear water only because they have nice detail, but I think if it spins, it will get the active fish..I just make sure to keep the hook sharp, but sometimes I just reach in and grab the color I want and rarely look at the brand.
I do seem to catch more fish on the Stanley Wedge spinnerbaits which seem to vibrate more for the size, but I will only pay for them when they are on sale and I just change skirts when needed or blades.
They are also great for Taking the blade off to make a quick MJ rig for your senko on the water if the weeds are heavy. I owe Timmy Horton a thank you for showing that on his TV show because slow rolling a big 6" Senko with a willow blade through Hydrilla is dynamite at times, or cut one down to 3" and put it on a jig head and fish it like a crankbait/spinnerbait....MJ rig is a good way to catch fish especially in pressured water.
H&H also makes a $1 spinnerbait that comes in several versions that has the closed line tie which I really like and I probably use those when I want 1/4 or lighter the most. Probably the same lures. I don't use the Treble hook version, they still sell the hammered blades which are hard to find in tandem and the closed eye which is how I like them.

I bought a pile of these on clearance, years ago just before they were bought out, and all but a few of the Titanium ones eventually snapped. I guess they lasted about as long as a regular steel bait, but what's the sense in the extra cost if they don't actually last longer?
Just curious, what are you guys using these 1/4 oz. baits for? All I can figure is a really slow retrieve, but keeping it shallow running?

I like a 1/4 oz for running fast over shallow water, smaller profile, lighter rod and line. I usually go 3/8-1/2 90% of the time since I can add bigger trailers without them rolling and 3/4 is my favorite for fishing slowly. Pond fishing I always go light 1/8-1/4 even Strike King Mini size just to match my little 6' Med action spinning rod I use for tight spots.....
I find the 3/8 is not much heavier but allows you to use bigger & heavier soft baits for trailers which is when I like to use the standard brands.
Yea, Terminator is a strange company, I know Rapala VMC owns them, but for a "Spinnerbait" Company they sure charge good money for a nice skirt and blades that fly off at times, bend, and even the T-1's are not so great.
DIck's has that 3/10 Strike King/Booyah Sale and they carry a ton of colors, I find both brands hold up well.
Good stuff, primetime. I'll have to keep the small bait in the back of my mind for next year. I don't use a trailer, er I only have a trailer hook, and I generally want to run pretty deep with mine, so I'm more a 1/2 oz. to 1-1/4 oz guy. Different water - different conditions.
Thanks!
Fishing a 1 ounce plus spinnerbait sounds like work unless the fishing is really good. Yea, different areas for sure. I always threw Spinnerbaits when I was in NY, and that was probably my favorite all around way to fish, but down here, I rarely fish them deep like I would sometimes do in the upstate lakes that were deeper. I still fished them Jimmy Houston style most of the time, had to keep it right under the surface, but those little Stanley Wedge spinnerbaits are money at times, same with that strike King Mini King? The hooks are good so if you get a good fish you don't have to worry, that is my only issue with the inexpensive spinnerbaits, the hooks get dull and points roll.
Yeah, it sucks. Pretty much for either stroking a deep ledge, or running at speed, but really deep. 1/2 - 5/8 is my most common size.
Question . with the 1 dollar spinnerbait and cheap swivel , does the blades spin when dropped ?
What brand do you use most? I hear people always talking about the War Eagle and I was contemplating buying a few for the fall. Do you use colored blades or silver and gold? Curious since I always see guys using bright blades but I do not have confidence in using bright blades.....

I use the small 1/4 oz and even 3/16 oz baits like the booyah pond magic or war eagle finesse spinnerbait when I want to use a more finesse approach and can't get bites on the big one, or when fishing a tournament to finish out a limit quick. The cheaper Walmart ones I mainly only use the black single Colorado at night in shallow water. I have a milk run of shallow flats and cover that usually hold fish at night. I can retrieve the 1/4 oz size a lot slower than the heavier sizes. I still slow roll it on bottom and kill it very so often to make sure I'm near bottom. I also use small spinner baits with double willows to finesse smallmouth, and double colorado, or Colorado/Indiana combinations. I usually add weight to the bait with a rubber core sinker pinched on the hook and add a quality trailer hook. Then I can burn them on top for smallmouth or slow roll them deep in cover for finicky bass. I basically modify them into a hidden weight spinnerbait. I know I can buy them like that, but I can carry less baits and just carry a few rubber core sinkers and trailer hooks and have a small light bait to fish shallow and then I can use the same bait to burn on top without rolling or slow roll deep. I'm all about bigger baits, but sometimes the fish want a smaller profile and a lot of times a reaction bait like a spinnerbait or crank bait is the only way to get them to bite. Try it sometime when the bite is tough and it may just save your day like it has for me many times
Thanks Tim for the details!
There good if your gonna For a buck you really cant fish junk were you have a good chance of getting hung. There colorado blade gives alot of thump. For a buck you cant really beat them.
Thanks to this thread I went and bought one in every color. I even picked up a $1 black and a $1 white buzzbait.
The buzzbaits feel really flimsy but it's only a buck.
$1 buzzbaits sold right alongside the spinnerbaits work too. I've personally modified them to prevent the blade from slipping, and this mod is easy and it works. See below. I've also added various plastic trailers to bulk them up.
Agreed that another good value spinnerbait - for $3 when on sale is the DSG "Banshee."
For the record, I agree with the statement that Mr. Francho refrained from making about big box vs smaller companies. But yet I have and use cheap baits from Walmart and others, so I can't say too much...
Well looks like I will be modding my buzzbaits tomorrow. Thanks for posting that!

I use the midnight special spinnerbait at night in the black/red skirt.

Me too, along with the war eagle and booyah night baits. I like black, black/red, and black/blue. These 1 dollar baits do work well when the bigger ones won't sometimes though
inspired by this thread i decided to try out my single Colorado blade in black from walmart tonight.
Too many people look at the price tags on some cheaper lures and think quality instantly is crap.
I bought a few of those today and I like them, being a budget fisherman i will probably be buying these now with a few strikeking or booyah mixed in.
There's a brand at academy called h2O xpress, they have some cranks and swim baits for cheap among a few other things and they're good.
Cheap but good spinner baits? H&H. If you can't catch fish on those, go home.
On the Coosa 3 years back or so..had to buy these cause out of reg. strike kings..i nailed 10 spots in like an hour and a half..had to bend back wire now and then..but did the job..then when i hooked on a log and broke off...no biggie..lost a buck

I guess not . I require the blades on my baits to spin when falling.

I wouldn't get your hopes up on it, they don't use a ball bearing swivel. The ones I've had the blades did not spin nearly as freely as I'd like.
I have bought so many of these to get my skirt collection going. I threw my first buzzbait and hooked two hawgs and miss 3 hits. I always go get more If I see they have different colors. My favorite color is red and yellow. Glad I found this thread!
