Got another box today with 120-130 strand jigs. I've already caught some nice ones on the craw colored jig like the ones on the right. I can't wait to throw the black/blue jigs.

Francho, this is a family friendly site. please refrain yourself.

flipin4bass, me including over 500 people are waiting to hear where you got the bloody jigs.

fishing user avatarflipin4bass reply :

Sorry bout not getting back, I trimmed a couple of the jigs, but for the most part I like a longer skirt. The guy that made them doesn't market these jigs, he makes them during the winter months when he's not out fishing himself. I met him through another friend in Illinois and was able to talk him out of some. He's an old timer, sort of a local legend around where he lives and is known for turning a lot of kids on to fishing. He's kind of hard to talk to sometimes if he doesn't know you but if you get him talking about getting envolved with kids he warms up to you. His wife is a lot easier to get to know. Anyway, his name is Bill and his number is (PM for Number). It's easier to get ahold of him on Saturdays afternoons and he goes to bed early. He pours his own jigs and uses wide gap hooks which I really like. I gave him six bucks each for his trouble and IMO they're worth it. I've paid 5-6 bucks for store bought jigs that are not half the jigs these are.

fishing user avatarRoLo reply :

It's interesting how different people see the same object through different eyes.

Without trying to be critical, the jigs pictured display three features that I personally dislike.

1) I'd rather see the eyelet located on the nose of the jighead where it can easily shed weeds.

2) Big is fine, but high strand-counts make a dense bulky skirt, which I would definitely thin out.

3) The hook is not a "round-bend" hook, but more of an O'Shaugnessey configuration.

Rick Clunn once stated that "round-bend" hooks contributed a lot to his tourney successes.

Rick claims that slappers (bass that don't engulf) are more likely to get stuck

on the outside of the mouth by a round-bend hook.

In any case, all my skirted jigs use a round-bend hook

Roger

fishing user avatarFat-G reply :

True, those look awesome, but I think they are too thick. I like Buckeye Mop Jigs, the skirts aren't massive and dense like that.

That really is a beautiful jig though.

fishing user avatartcroot reply :

Hi, not trying to tell you what to do. But i would take his number down. If anyone wants it they can pm you for it. just my 2 cents.

** Good suggestion, the number was removed **

fishing user avatarflipin4bass reply :

Thanks tcroot, point very well taken.

fishing user avatarbassman018 reply :

Very, cool jigs, I was thinking sbout making some of my own some time...

These are football jigs, and I prefer the line tie at 90 degrees, to protect the knot.  I'd have to see the skirts in the water, but 40ish is usually enough for me.  I'd definitely lose the weedguard.  Lacking that, the wide gap hooks work well with the 90 line tie.

fishing user avatarRiver Rat316 reply :

Those are 45 degree Mustad Hooks 38109

fishing user avatarflipin4bass reply :

I was never an expert on hook styles but I like wide gap hooks on a jig when I can find them. When I visited this guy I noticed he had large bags of Mustad hooks hanging on peg board behind his molds; does anyone know where you can buy hooks in bulk like that?

fishing user avatarTin reply :

Come on brushhoggin it is getting a little unfriendly here, we need another "Refrain yourself" comment.   :;)

fishing user avatarIncheon Basser reply :

Nice Jigs but to thick for my tastes. I think they would be a good hot summer jig though

I've stopped buying jigs from other people.. But pouring and painting my own jigs is a pain in the arse so I just buy boss jig heads in bulk and tie my own skirts... I can make 60+ jigs for about $125

That's like 2 bucks a piece and I get to pick how long, how many strands, what colors, and so on. Plus it gets me in the fishing room and out of my wife's radar for a while. and since i live over seas it's cheaper than buying and shipping marketed jigs. plus i just like fishing something I made

These are the heads I use
