Y'all try it yet?
I bought one back in early fall but never got a chance to throw it. I'm looking forward to trying it out once it warms up a little though.

what about you @Catt
Nope! Waiting on the weather!
They're just too heavy.

Too heavy for what?
I think he's saying it's a heavy bait for his liking.
I'm gonna try one for Snook. Looks like it might be good.
I bought one back in november with a cabelas gift card i got and chucked it a few times, more to see the action than anything. I ended up catching a few small ones and i can say that it is pretty ridiculous and i haven't seen anything like it. it is a big, heavy bait but it looks great and I am looking forward to seeing how it does in a more normal topwater time of year.

Better start eating chicken and hitting the gym!
I have one and fished it several times. It is a big, fat bait, looks like it's modeled after a manatee. Crazy action, almost walks in place while throwing water everywhere. I had several bites, but never managed to hook a single fish. I never changed out the kind of cheap looking stock hooks though.
What color did everyone buy? Not sure I would start with throwing the Ghost Bluegil above.

that is the color i got because it was on sale. After using it, i don't think color matters at all, it will be the action on this bait.
great now i have to have one.
I got the pro blue color.

I agree. Just that must of the waters I'm fishing are more stained and Im always curious if the opaque patterns give the bass a better target in stained water.
mine is bone white
They do catch fish and some big ones at that. I have one of these or a rat tied on at all times
I want one, But I do not need any more topwater lures, I have way too many that I never have used yet as it is, I am sure that one would spend a good year or two before I would try it. I just can't see picking that up over a few other walking baits for similar price but I would buy one if I found it half price like I do with all lures.

that was my response too. I haven't gotten to throw my whopper plopper yet, or the LT sunfish, and now...

I guess the language is called "Auto Correct" without proof reading. It kind of reads like President Trump's Tweets. I apologize.
I would try google "Translator" Google Translate may not work well. Just kidding of course.

Don't waste your money.
The Whopper Plopper on the other hand...

It came in one of the boxes, either MTB or LTB
Okay, so I'm going to cave and pick up one of these. I actually thought it was heavier, more towards WP130 territory at 1 and 3/8 oz.
At 1oz. I think I could swing it. My MH/MF KLX has the highest lure rating at 1oz so I should be okay.
Pro Blue or Bone?
One ounce is actually pretty heavy I'm not getting that thing!

I wish I had a setup that would accommodate a Whopper Plopper 130.

You can use the whopper plopper 130 on a medium heavy rated for up to one ounce lures, the rod I use for my 130 is only rated for up to one ounce also. Don't worry about going a bit over a rods raring, they are just general guidelines from the manufacturer. Just don't attempt a snap cast obviously, I just roll/lob mine out, and it still casts a long ways.
For me it's just not for me I don't care for it , I still haven't caught anything on my whopper plopper ?

Throw it on a rainy summer morning around docks and subsurface weeds, you will be glad you did.

I've never caught anything with my Perch 90 and I've thrown that thing a couple hundred times in various situations.
Bit the bullet on a pro blue.. what kind of knot are you guys using?
I would think a loop knot or the rapala knot, but some of the videos from a few Bill Lewis pros looks like a direct tie with a clinch or sdj?

My friend and I were messing around at a lake one day, I had a whopper plopper on and he had a chatterbait on. I wanted to try the chatterbait so we swapped rods. He caught a bass on the plopper. We traded back. He caught one on the chatterbait. We traded again. He caught two in a row on my plopper. Then, I finally got one on his chatterbait. Since then, he always messes with me about how he's caught three fish on my plopper and I haven't caught one.
That's funny !
So, mine arrived today and this thing is an absolute banana, every bit of 5" but surprisingly light. No rattles, decent paint work and big hooks. I was thinking about swapping them out for #6 Stingers but seeing as the hook up ratio sounds a little low I'll try out the stock mustads first before I alter anything.
Its warming up here, should be around 60 tomorrow, and I plan on hitting some local golf course Ponds with a friend who works in the pro shop.
I was torn whether to use a loop knot or throw a split ring on there so I'm going to try the oval split first. I'll report back later tomorrow.

I tie a palomar direct to the split ring and it works like it's supposed to. I fish mine on braid though.

The WP is an all day long bait, rain or shine, they destroy it. It really was a killer last year over shallow flats and points, with weeds being a bonus. Don't give up on it, it's sooo much fun when they get on a WP bite.
Honestly I got the bait late in the year last year and fished it maybe early October when i was still able to and I didn't know if I should fish it like a buzz bait or walk it like a spook or what the heck rod tip up or rod tip pointing down? I seen lake fork guy with his rod tip up fishing it slow but he got a bass like right away I haven't had time to play with it but it's starting to warm up significantly here in California with temps starting to get up to the mid 60s and even probably hit 70s this week so I'll be throwing it soon as I'm able to.

That picture is from late October in NE Kansas FWIW, water temps in the mid 50's maybe, notice the brown dead grass on the hooks from the cool water.
I use a steady retrieve with the rod tip at about 10 o' clock. I use braid and try to just reel into them, but the strikes are so violent that it's hard to control myself sometimes.
Unfortunately, no blow ups today.. but this thing is out of control. Extremely large presentation, extreme action.
Somehow every top water thread turns into praise for the whopper plopper lol
I hooked a 4+lber too on that livetarget sunfish. I don't think it's a waste of money. Waste of money would be no return on your investments . I do think there are.better top water values ... Just wouldn't say it's a waste of money
SON OF A..
I told myself I was done buying lures until May, of course the smaller stutterstep arrives.

I might have to go get one of those smaller versions to go along with the big one i bought/
Color me intrigued. Can't wait for some official info about it.
They sure are dragging this out..
Hey guys, just a heads up the 4" models just became available on TW. They're 3D printed polymer, 5/8oz and available in their six core colors. After shipping they're a little pricey at $31 but I jumped on a Pro Blue.
There are 150 of each color so I would hurry if you're interested, a lot of hype around these. The next batch in late summer will not be the same specs.
My 4.0 arrived today and it is considerably smaller than the original. The 3D print is a little strange, the construction makes the bait look ribbed. The quality of the bait is pretty good, but for over $30 after shipping it leaves a little to be desired. Better glue work, better eyes, better seams.. and it smells funny. On the plus side, the size is great, I like the opaque Pro Blue and is does have rattles which I didn't know would be possible with 3D printing.
I was nervous they were going to sell out right away and I wasn't going to have the opportunity to even purchase one, but there seems to be plenty left at TW. I'm really excited to try it though!
I'm going to hold off for the production version, but the cool 3D printed run of them is very tempting. I have some techie friends that I fish with who would think a 3D printed bait is pretty neat.
I can't believe they're getting that kind of money for a 3D printed lure. I guess they're using the hype to pay for their new 3D printer lol.

The comments they've received on their YouTube and instagram accounts match your sentiment.. with the exception of the curse-laden free for all that social media has become. They created so much hype regarding the 4.0 and to drop it at $24.99 + $6 shipping is a crime.
