In your opinion, what is the best popper for bass?
Spro Bronzeye Poppin' Frog
Not the best, but one I really like
Roger
For me it's still the venerable little 'ol Pop R..
It's been around for years for a reason.
Mike
My favorites are the Megabass Pop Max and the Storm Chug Bug. Rebel Pop'R is a great popper as well.

There's no denying the time-honored popularity of the Pop-R.
(The Pop-R was discontinued, then reintroduced due to popular demand)
I can't help but think that its remarkable success is related to its diminutive size (intimidates NO bass)
Roger
Another vote here for the pop r
I've fished a lot of poppers over the years. The only one I use now is the Pop N' Image by Bill Dance. Extremely easy to walk the dog with. Great variety of popping sounds. Inexpensive. And, best of all, it flat out catches bass.
Iovino Splash-It in Shad & baby bass colors. You can't work most Pop-R's fast enough to create the panic bait fish action. Zell Roland's modified Pop-R is OK but doesn't work for me as well. I have no use for a walking Pop-R, too many excellent walking lures available like a Vixen or Sammy.
Tom
Definitely the Rapala Skitterpop for me. No other popper walks the dog as well and produces such a wide variety of sounds. Runners up for me would be the Heddon Pop N' Image and the Booyah Boss Pop.
I have several different brands of poppers, but I always end up using the pop-r.
2nd here for the skitter pop. Probably the best bang for your buck.
I have one in an oversized brown frog pattern that has 4 bass over 20" to it's credit with one being 24" . Which is a nice bass anywhere but one helluva bass where I'm living currently.
And I own many, many poppers and various topwaters. The success with this particular popper speaks volumes to me ,although probably based on some coincidence and luck (right place , right time etc) it still had the mojo to get her done...
Shop around and they can be had for 6-7 bucks a piece.
Bargains my friend. Bargains.
Monkey, the best popper for bass is the one that is working.
You may have to try several before you find the right one.
@Sam no favorite for you Sam ?

Here's a novel approach: why not use a Rebel Pop-R for popping, and a Lucky Craft Sammy for walking?
If zigzag walking is your thing, ANY topwater with a weighted tail will be a cakewalk to walk
Roger
Sometimes I want a lot of noise like mid day during the summer on standing timber lines / breaks . My favorite then is the Rebel Magnum Pop R .
White/charteuse chicken feathers combo is all I use.

No top 5?
I'll second the Rapala Skitter Pop
Got a really soft spot for the old & venerable Hula Popper, have caught tons of fish with it.

Me too Raul, but I was afraid no one heard of it
Roger
I still remember the first blowup using my dad's old hula popper. He didn't use many artificial lures, but he always had a hula popper.
Arbogast Hula Poppers are still available, TW carries them!

Rebel pop r can't be beaten (my opinion).
Yo Zuri's 3DB series, and the mega bass pop max I like in clear wAter situations. I do believe the realism of these baits illicit strikes when the water is clear. I have witnessed many a smallmouth slowly come up under a lure a take a closer look. You can't tell me realism in this instance doesn't help, certainly isn't gonna hurt.
Stained water Pop-R.
Popmax.
The Rebel Pop-R was a decent popper but didn't get popular until Zell Roland modified the lure by sanding the sides smooth and reducing the under lip so the lure spit instead of blumped and could be retrieved quickly by slimming the shape. The Japanese took Zells modification to heart and came out with the Micheal. Zell countered the Micheal by working with Rebel to produce the Zell Pop-R. Rick Clunn worked with the Japanese with the Rico, Iovino followed with his Splash-It. Megabas came out with the open gill version followed by Max size and prices jumped with each new lure.
If the Pop-R did all the things the lures that followed, those lures would have never been developed. The Pop-R is a decent slower moving popper, it's not a faster moving spitter like all the others.

This Zell Pop
I bought some of the new Booyah Boss pops in the similar color, hopefully they will be just as good.
I really like the R2S Bubble Walker 80 too (very similar to a PopMax, for a fraction of the price).
I did pop for a White Python Pop Max this winter that I hope to get wet very soon. High, muddy waters have killed our topwater bite lately.

No. I like them all which is a problem in itself.
Just keep trying them until the sun stops the topwater bite and then it is on to frogs for topwaters or maybe a Sammy.
Whatever works is the best one. At least until the pattern changes.
I have a megabass pop-x and a rebel pop-r. The megabass spits and walks while the pop-r does more of a "bloop, bloop" action. Haven't fished them enough to say which works better but at this point I actually like the rebel's action more. I can use a walking bait to get a splashing sound while walking better than the pop-x, but I don't have any other lures that make that bloop sound.
pop-x is my favorite by far
Storm Chug Bug -- the little one. Dynamite...

I have 16 of these baits in 2 different sizes.
I like this bait but think the Spit'n Image is the best walk the dog bait I've ever seen. I search EBay daily for these and buy all I can.
I use Rio Ricos and Megabass pop max.
Popmax has accounted for more fish in the past two years than any other bait I've thrown.
I keep coming back to the yellow magic. Any color as long as its bone.

Let me know if you want to sell a couple!
Yellow Magic Poppers, Lobina Rico Popper, River2Sea Bubble Walker, and the Megabass Pop Max are four "Poppers" that can get the job done.. These "Poppers" may be of the high end walking poppers but they really work great. I use all four for my "Top Water" fishing
