I have my biggest payout tournament coming up. The fluke bite is on. I still have nightmares about all the large fish I’ve lost while fluke fishing. I changed to Trokar straight hooks and last time out I didn’t lose a fish, but last year I had 2 6# come up and swim off with the fluke totally out of sight in the fishes mouth to set hook and never feel the fish. Any info would be great
I use the 4/0 skeet Reese eagle claw ewg on my 5 inch super flukes works great I’ll use the Jason Christie 4/0 heavy wire eagle claw if I want to add some weight to it but theses hooks work great!
I use a gamakatsu 3/0 wide gap hook almost exclusively. I land 90 % of the fish I hook on flukes. I use a sweep set ( more horizontal than verticle) , and work hard to keep pressure on the fish during the fight, and also to keep the rod down to not allow the fish to jump.I also tex pose the hook so the point is just out of the fluke.
You will miss a few on the hookset, esp. If the fish takes you by suprise and if you arent positioned correctly when setting the hook.
I use a 4/0 trokar EWG on zoom super salty flukes. With hook point barely sticking out the back.

Try putting an Owner CSP spring in the nose and then use a nose rigged hook.
Works well.

I used gamakustu as well but they stop selling them at Walmart so I tried these out and let me tell you they are great hooks for the price.????
I've used Gama's before, good quality hook for price

Yes yes Gamakatsus are definitely preferable I’m just stating that the cheaper route isn’t a bad one.
I’ve found that nose-hooking flukes with a CPS Centering Spring will save on many flukes which saves you money and valuable time from not continually putting on new flukes. My current fluke has lasted 2 seasons so far.
I use an Owner 2/0 Mosquito hook but found out sometimes the CPS Centering Spring flew off the hook so I added a small piece of shrink tube and it fixed it. You can buy the shrink tube for like $1.40 and it will last years.
*** Note: I do not heat the shrink tube afterwards.
Good luck on your tournament!
Regular 4/0 gammy ewg works well. The 5/0 is also good and I use both interchangeable.

This. I watched the TacticalBassin video where they rigged them like this, and tried it. It completely changed my mind about soft jerkbaits. My hookup rate since switching to this method had been d**n near 100%
Owner Twist Lock Light hook, 2/0 for the 4" fluke Jr. and 4/0 for the 5". Ever since I started using that hook my flukes have lasted longer and I don't miss fish, if they eat it I'm landing it unless I break off. Keep in mind that it isn't a heavy wire hook but it also isn't light wire like the name, I'd say it is a standard or medium wire hook. Those hooks are the very same that Gary Yamamoto designed to be used with the Senko and when you how long a fluke normally lasts when using that hook you can see why it would be perfect for a Senko.
Gamakatsu 3/0 EWG.
I use a lot of different hooks for flukes depending on what I want them to do. One that I really like is the VMC XL hook. It's an ewg with a long shank that puts the weight to the middle of the fluke and gives it a horizontal fall.

That's it right there.
4/0 EWG of your choice. I have been using the berkley fusion hooks since last season when they went on the buy 2 get one free deal at BPS, with success. Nose hooking a fluke does a good job but it will get snagged on everything.
I usually use gammy 4/0 offset worm hook, I don't see the need for the ewg since there isn't much plastic that the hook needs to go through. Personal preference

I haven’t noticed this being a problem.

you mean snagging on things? The lakes I fish a nose hooked fluke doesn't cut it. I also throw mine into heavy cover a lot and this would just guarantee a snag, I know, because I've tried many times.

I agree I’m not into the nose hooking deal doesn’t work for me maybe on a spinning rod but I like to hammer down with a weedles ewg.

Yes. I don't fish thick stuff with mine though. Mostly docks and light weeds.

Do you shrink the tube after?

Nope.
@tcbass You just like it cause it’s more durable than something like a rubber band? I’m not sure if I could resist not shrinking it haha

I just started using it bc I had it on hand. lol. But it is a lot more durable than a rubber band and once piece seems to last years, so why change? It also doesn't need to be heated but you could try it.
I think a rubberband would fall off fast and deteriorate fast too.
@tcbass
???? you got me thinking...
it came out much stronger than I thought. Doesn’t slide at all. (These Hooks used were just for experimenting)
I’m sure I’m not the only one who's thought of something like this...

Nice. What's that for?

Well i didn’t have a spring keeper handy, so ignore the red hook. I was just going off your method but threading the hook through the tube and then shrinking it...

Cool.
I've tried a few others, but the 3/0 EWG Gammy is my favorite. I keep the tip buried 100% of the time unless nose hooked. But, I do skip these in the deepest darkest nastiest brushiest places I can find most of the time (and of course under everything that floats). I want as little chance of getting snagged as possible. If I really want to get deeper quicker I will go with a belly weighted hook, but that's rare. I found better luck swapping over to a Swimming Super Fluke if I go that route vs the Super Fluke. I will also swap over to the Swimming Fluke if I need to slow things down more, it may be as much mental as anything but if I feel I need to go slower the swimmer seems to work better. For that, I stay with a normal 3/0 EWG or sometimes even a 2/0. One year, I pegged a small bullet in front of a fluke and while the action was a little "off" it worked great. (Deeper drops, ledges and long points mostly). I never tried it with a swimmer, but that could work out nicely I suppose.
For those who are worried about longevity, you can always fish new plastic with a normal 3/0 EWG, then once damaged save that bait for a nose hooked offering where suitable. Easy enough to save bad ones just for that. Worst case, you trim a little plastic and voila, you're back in business.
Vmc death stick hooks. Best hooks ive ever used for flukes.
I have to agree with the nose-hook method if you're in water that isn't just choked with weeds. I used a 2/0 Gama finesse hook. It works great and hooksets are easy. Just tighten the line and reel up. You get a lot more action out of the bait because you didn't stick a hook through half the body. If you buy Mann's Hardnose flukes you won't need any other rigging besides the hook and one will last all day.
