Best Tackle For Gift? 2025

fishing user avatarA KGB Operative reply :

Hi, my girlfriends brother and I are mildy close and I enjoy the guys company on fishing trips,

Pro tip, hes a good fisherman.

I was wondering what baits I could get him. I was thinking around the 20-30 dollar price range.

I was trying to decide what to gift him. I was looking at moreau baits, shellcracker g2s, really anything that he hasn't seen himself before. Quality guy that doesn't like spending too much on tackle so I want to gift him a nice one.

Or, should I grab a bunch of 5 dollar lures that I believe are cool as all hell? He fishes most styles, but his targets are bass, northern pike, and walleye.

Does anyone have any recommendations?

fishing user avatarOzark_Basser reply :

Custom painted hardbait? Maybe a spook or a crankbait? I don't know if that would exceed your budget though.

fishing user avatarBrnnoser6983 reply :

I assume you know what he likes to fish. And if he would say never touch an A rig you shouldn't make that a gift.

With that said, I think we all have that one lure we would love to get, but might not want to put out said dollar amount. (For a while that was a Shell Cracker for me, but has moved into upgrading to some higher end baits such as Megabass). Maybe he is the same. Would love a higher end bait, but just can't see putting out $20-30 for just one.

Regardless of what you get him, I am sure he will be happy. Any Fisher man or woman that would turn a nose up to free gifted tackle is just.... prudish..

fishing user avatar*Hootie reply :

I would prefer a gift card. That way I could get exactly what I wanted. Better than trying to guess what they want and get it wrong. They would never tell you.

What he said. I feel like choosing baits is a very personal thing. I always tell my wife the same thing when she insists on buying me something for Christmas. Of course she doesn't fish and only knows the difference between a crankbait and a spinnerbait because I obsess. Then, I suppose, I was very surprised when she got me a S-ton of green pumpkin soft plastics and 6XDs with a giant tackle bag last Christmas. But yeah, gift card. That's two gifts. You buy him the bait, and he has the fun of actually purchasing it.

Agreed.

Either a gift card or a really specific, special higher end bait that you know he will use.

Burning a gift card is so much fun though.

fishing user avatarSenko lover reply :

I too would prefer a gift card.

fishing user avatarroadwarrior reply :

How 'bout something that he probably doesn't fish, but should?

Two chatterbaits, one that is white. Three packs of Rage Tail Structure Bugs,

one white. If there is a lottle monsy left, a pack or two of the Owner Jika Rigs.

Best fishing lure gift someone could get me are some vintage Warts , Big jims , Deep Wee R's ..,

fishing user avatarKayakKid reply :

I'd get him some plastics. Then if he doesn't like them he could turn them into trailers.

fishing user avatarWIGuide reply :

I'm also hopping on the gift card bandwagon. I like getting baits just as much as the next guy but there's times I just want what I want and it's nice to be able to pick that out.

fishing user avatarfishballer06 reply :

I'd either get him a gift card, or something he normally wouldn't spend for himself. Since you're saying the $20-30 range, you could get him a Megabass lure that he might not normally shell out the cash for.

fishing user avatarHeron reply :

Survey says.....

GIFT CARD

fishing user avatarbuzzed bait reply :

i'd suggest a sample pack of siebert jigs, can't really go wrong there

fishing user avatarOK Bass Hunter reply :

Gift card definitely, then he can browse and browse and finally decide on what he wants.

fishing user avatarChoporoz reply :

I dislike gift cards....not to say that I don't give them....I just feel it's lazy.  I get the argument that fishing tackle is/can be personal.  And I have received my share of stuff that I rolled my eyes at or wish the gifter had gotten something else.  But, you know what?  Every single gifted lure in my possession has been used and has been used until it caught fish -- AND I still remember who gave me each and every one of them.   I have no clue who all has ever given me a gift card, much less what I bought with them.

You fish with him and obviously know a little about him -- buy him something that he might not get for himself....or if that doesn't work for you, how about a filet knife or scale or leatherman-type tool or something?  Maybe hand-tie a few jigs....very easy to do, but personal and would be special - no question.

Not in the least....well, I was a little offended that you gave us good guys the blue font, but that's more because my wife always has Fox News on lately than any real or perceived slight from you

Same here, I always tell family, don't buy me clothes, or fishing gear.

Last year my wife succeeded in buying me fishing gear. She did this

by going to one of my favorite websites an looking at my wish list.

The result:

I was happy.

fishing user avatarBrnnoser6983 reply :

I could see getting idea off a list, but at that point is still basically giving him a gift card.

It's not like trying to tell the wife what to get. (Personally my wife wouldn't even know what I'm saying if I told her I want a pack of 5/0 wide gap Mustads)

You get tackle, and you know what he uses. Stick with finding a higher end bait that he uses. If he is a top water person get a mega bass popper.

fishing user avatarJaderose reply :

I'd get him a gift card to one of the smaller jig producers that he maybe doesn't know about like Sieberts or NorthStar.  I'd be thrilled with either as would about anyone on here.

How about a Fishhound Field Testing Kit or Lucky Tackle Box

fishing user avatarCgrinder reply :

7" M.S. Slammer. Hand crafted and only slightly above your price range.

fishing user avatarBig C reply :

Spro Rat.

fishing user avatarSam reply :

Gift card and go with him when he is going to use it.

fishing user avatarpapajoe222 reply :

Whenever I've purchased a fishing related gift for a friend or relative, I always steered clear of lures and stuck to accessories or terminal tackle. A spool of braided line, landing net, rod socks, or a tackle bag would get the nod unless he already has them.  Lures, rods, reels, etc. are personal choices and if he is an experienced angler they likely would gather dust in his garage.

My son-in-law has almost as much gear as I do, but was always asking to use my line cutters or pliers and would then misplace them.  I got him a fishing tool set that came with a holster.  He still misplaced them because he never puts anything away, but at least I kept mine in their rightful place and he received a gift that was both useful and thought out.
