BR Lure Fun? 2024

I saw the "BR Challenge" post here a couple of weeks ago and along a similar line, I thought this might be something fun to do if anyone else is interested. Someone coughs up a lure (preferably something that will last a while - hard bait, spinner, jig, etc.). Take it fishing and hopefully catch something with it, get photos, post them here with details on where you fished, and details of fish caught etc. Then, pick another member here and send it to them. You can only keep the lure for (7/10/14??? days). If you lose the lure, you cough up the next one (of your choice) in addition to an added penalty (to be determined...but I'm sure lots of razzing from other members will be included.) We keep a record and see how many different places and how many fish we can catch with one lure. Anyone in? Someone in one of the warmer climates may want to start it off as I don't anticipate having any luck here for the next six weeks or so. If anyone has any ideas to improve on the idea, feel free to post.

I love this Idea as well. Bassn Blvd why don't you pick a lure and catch and pic a fish with it. Then mail the lure it to me. PM for address. Once I catch a fish with it I will post the pic and mail the lure to korea. I suggest making it a simple and durable lure like a spinnerbait. That way if it gets torn up by a member it will be easy to replace.

If you are chosen as a recipient, do your best to keep it moving. If you know you are going to be away for a couple of weeks, please defer until a better time.

This is the lure I have chosen to send. It is a Rapala Minnow black over gold. They come in like 3 different sizes. This one is the middle size, I think 2 1/2 inches with 2 treble hooks. These Rapalas are very common and are sold almost everywhere, and under 6 bucks. I have caught tons of Bass on them and I'm sure yall will too. I'd like to see some Smallies caught on it.

This is the biggest bass I caught on this lure but the lure was the next size bigger then the one I'm sending.

bass_boys, this is totally the most versatile hardbait ever IMO. you can reel it, twitch it on top, jerk it underneath, anything your heart desires. it is a floating version and it is solid balsa so it floats very fast. it is great for shallow water applications.

For those who have asked about this, yes it is still going on. The lure was started by Bassn Blvd and his dad who both caught fish with it in Florida and I'm told the lure is currently enroute to mattm in TX. There were some unforseen circumstances that caused a bit of a delay but hopefully it will pick up a bit. I will start a tracking log on here later with some info related to it.

Some of you have asked if you are too late to sign up. No, it's never too late to "sign up" although there is no list of entrees other than this thread itself. As far as an order for where the lure goes to next, it is up to the current holder as to who/where he/she sends it, however, I would ask that you use some thought and not send it to a place that is still covered in ice or to someone who has already had their chance.

We never established a period of time that you are allowed to keep the lure before forwarding it, so I'll say here that the general rule is you shouldn't keep it more than one weekend. When you receive it, please make a post in this thread letting everyone know where it is and then post again when you have forwarded it. It is up to you to get the address of the next recipient.

Any questions or suggestions for enhancement are welcome.

I recieved the lure on Thursday. I was planning on keeping the lure for two weekends so I could have a shot with it at Fork, but if everyone agrees that it should be 1 weekend i'll take it to a little pond and send it on. BTW, my weekends are Tuesday Wednesday. I work Saturday and Sunday.

i think a good time limit on keeping the lure would be something like this:

take it along and fish it a good amount of time on the next fishing trip after you get the lure. if you catch a fish, then send it along. if you dont catch a fish, then take the lure with you on your next fishing trip and fish it a good amount of time again. if still no fish, then just send it to the next person.

how does that sound?

To me a week is a little unrealistic. What if your not fishing the weekend you get it or weather. I think two weeks tops is fine. If you haven't fished in that time you just have to send it on. Plus, in the event someone recieved it on friday and fished it Saturday they might only have it 2-3 days. When shipping and 12,000 members are involved you can't hit all them in a year. No need to limit this little project to a year before we even get started.

OK...Point taken. One weekend may not be enough time so lets say two weeks OR whenever you catch a fish with it...which ever comes first. That should be alright as long as everyone tries to keep it moving. It needs to stay simple and fun and not get bogged down with too many rules and technicalities so that no one wants to participate. Fair enough?

Got the lure thursday, took it out for a quick hour on a small pond. All I managed to hook in there was a chunk of ice. I was dead set on not losing this lure, so I sat there tossing chunks of downed tree branches at the ice until it broke through. One bad cast almost ruined the day! I'm heading out again tomorrow or monday, so I should have a little more luck!

This is not a complaint but you guys got me laughing. How did this lure go from sunny, warm, cozy mmmmmmgood, S.Florida to the frigid, iced over lakes of the north?

Just a suggestion but why don't the next person who speaks up for it make sure the lakes aren't frozen.

Went to the same local pond today for about 2 hours, got one bite, landed one LMB, I'd say about 3.5lbs, great fish, hard to find them this time of year. Well, here's the latest on the BR Lure Relay. I received the lure last Monday (it may have arrived a couple of days before that but I was out of town). I had planned on taking my little inflatable boat out on Saturday to see what I could due, but ended up being too sick to get off the couch all day. I felt better today, so I made it out to the water for a couple of hours this afternoon but didn't have time nor feel like messing with the boat. So I fished from the bank and the water condiditons weren't particulary good. The water was way down and very murky, but the weather was great. Anyway, I managed this one fish on the relay lure which is all I fished with until I caught this sucker. I fished it a bit longer and then tried some other lures, but this was the only fish of the day.

I will contact one of you who have expressed interest in participating to get your mailing address and will get the lure in the mail as soon as possible. Good luck to all.

This is doing pretty well so far. I am glad to see people posting pics. I cant wait for my shot at it. I found some really nice (new to me) lakes that have alot of potential. Sorry, new job = less time on BR, but to update, when I had the lure I caught one LMB at about 3lbs, great fish from a small suburban pond in 40 degree Ohio April "spring time." I actually liked the action on this lure, so I bought one the same day I shipped it to Korea!

Well here is the latest update on the lure and it's journey. I have had it for 2 weeks and finally got to fish it this weekend and took it to Kentucky with me. I fished a small lake on saturday and had no luck with it so I decided to get up Sunday morning and head up to a couple of ponds we have and give it one last try there. Well this was the right move, not much size to them but I ended up catching 9 and missed 3 more. I was about to change the treble on it so as not to miss anymore but it came to me with these hooks and it will leave me with them. I didn't get pics of 2 of them, dead batteries in cam. Not bad for only staying up there about an hour.

I do think that Burley touching it did curse it to only catch dinks now. :-?

i goty to fish with the lure today and i caught this:

i guess it really is a dink magnet!

but there is a funny story about the fish...

the park was packed today, and i was fishing right by some other guy who was taking his kids bluegill fishing. i accidentally crossed his line,. as i was reeling it in, the bass hit my lure, and then as i got it closer, a bluegill took his lure! so we each had a fish on the end of our tangled lines. it was pretty funny, we both laughed.

i think im gonna keep this lure for one more trip if you guys dont mind, so i can try to contribute more than just that one tiny fish.

i took the lure to the farm pond today. i started out casting parallel to the dock, as close as i could get to it, and on my third cast of the day, pulled in this 18" bass. i caught it on the UL setup shown, and with a loose drag. it was lots of fun!

im going fishing tomororw, and i will bring the lure, and i will send it to the next person on monday.

Went out friday night got to our spot and there were bass bustin big bluegill ever where .Did'nt catch one the lure. .I still had a great night may be next time.

I went through some of the list and there are a few on it that haven't been on the forums in a few months. This is a little concerning. I hate to see this end with a MIA due to someone's lack of motivation to send it on. Choose wisely but don't rule out the newer guys. If they are active on the forums be sure to give them a chance.

Hey guys,

A final update. We got hit by a nasty rainstorm Wednesday night, and received over 1 and 1/2 inches of rain within 2-3 hours! Needless to say, I was dealing with some muddy water. I gave it my best shot, nonetheless, but came up empty.

I'm sending the lure to Bassnajr tomorrow morning before I leave for vacation, and hopefully he can load it up with luck, unlike me! ;D

Well..once I got the presentation down, I caught a couple. (see photos) They were no "lunkers" (perhaps the dink curse continues!!) but the object of this thread is to catch, release, and pass it on..... so that's what I'll do. I went to a place I call "the wall" near my home. It's a place I go to unwind and throw a few lures. It was 1:00 pm, sunny skies, 85 degrees and humid. I picked these two up in about a half an hour. Gotta' love Rapala's!!!! Just for information, this is a floating lure which suspends when "jerked" on retrieve. Very light lure.

Well...Who wants it next!! let's keep it moving!!!

I'm not sure if we covered this or not but I would like to get the lure back at the end of it's journey. I want to put in a shadowbox and hang it on my wall with everyones name who used it. Then each year perhaps send it to Glenn to put it on display at all of the future BassResource outings.

This will potentially eliminate the day or two of waiting for that info after you are finished with it.

Throw it out and let it set on top for a few, and then twitch it on top a couple times for a topwater bite and then use it as a jerkbait all the way back to ya. I really jerk it hard and just keep going I will pause every now and then but mostly just keep it moving. It dances around like crazy and will pull bass from a long way. I bought a couple to use after I got it and tried it and just a couple weeks ago at a local lake jerking it they were shooting out of the grass like a shark to hit it.

that would work, but i think it is much cooler/significant to have just ONE lure traveling the world and catching bass from all over. it makes it very one of a kind. i think it would be slighly less significant if there were multiple lures because they wouldnt see as many places. JMO

Just a thought, but it seems to me that the lure will obviously not make it around the whole list by years end.

We may need to start considering the northern guys first if there are any more due to the fact that their fishing season will end before too long. :-/

I know what ya mean! It's not really my type either. I took it out on my ultra light spinning setup that I use for crappie in the spawn, and white bass in the river. I think I had 4# or 6# test on there. It took me a while but I finnally was able to pull out a few fish.

I used it regularly on my Diawa Sol with #10 mono and a Loomis crank bait rod with no problems. I also used it on my Abu Premier and Shimano Chronarch 50. IMO, the lure is one of the most reliable, popular bass lures ever made.

Nothing yet. I sent him PM a few days ago asking about the lure status but haven't heard anything from him since his post a couple of weeks ago saying he was planning to keep it "one more week". Maybe we'll hear something soon.

I received the lure today. Thanks Simon. It's not near as beat up as I thought it would be considering... It's been raining constantly all week here in NY but this weekend I'm hoping it will get better. I am itching to fish. I will do my best to get some nice pics. I kinda wish I had some of those Ti luresavers split-rings to put on it. I'd hate to be to the one to lose it (knock on wood). Anyways I'll get some pics of the lunker I get (batting 1000 with karma eh? : ). Seriously though I appreciate the opportunity to be a part of this great idea.

Well I fished the BR lure this weekend. There was a heck of a crankbait bite on but I was determined so I tied on my Megabass Vision 110 (story of the lure here: http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1217385063) and was using it to find fish so I could throw the BR lure in there and catch one. The Megabass is a heck of a lot easier to throw than the ultra light BR lure.

I was ripping the Vision past some reeds and got it to the boat and for some reason swept it hard down the length of the boat. As soon as I did that a very large pike came in, hammered it, and took off. My drag started screaming and the rod bent way over and "pop"... he cut me off.

I was a little ill at the thought of losing my Vision but I am so thankful it wasn't the BR lure. Needless to say I'm not going to risk it and will pass it on to the next in line. I can't find a titanium leader that wouldn't ruin the action anyways.

Alrighty,shorefisher PM'ed me and i'm going to give it a chance before it freezes over here.The bite has been non-existence for me the pass few weeks.

I'm gonna try and fish all next weekend and will be sending it out after the weekend.

I need to know if anybody wants to give it a try after me.Winter's coming so let me know who wants this passed on so i can get it out when i finish.

Alrighty,heading out today as i was extremely sick sunday and slept through the entire day.

Who wants this next? Going to start top of the list and give a 24 hour wait before i get an answer and move on to the next person on list.

Update....Caught nothing,the water was extremely low and nothing seemed to bite.Me being sick didn't help much either as i really couldn't pay attention to what i was doing.

Weather is about to get worst here as the week progresses into the weekend.Looks like i'll be staying home for awhile now.

Fished Lake Conroe Saturday and Sunday.

Caught three on it Saturday, all undersize(11-15").

Lake Conroe is a mininum 16" legal lake.

Did catch one 17 3/8 largemouth early Sunday morning on it along with another that was just under the legal limit and four more from 8-13". Bite slowed way down after 9:00am. Put it down and finished off the day out on the river with a C-rig. Nothing large to report. It was pretty tough.

Who is next in line? PM me and give me an address and I will send it to you.

Sorry for the delay, many things going on that kept me away from the lake for several weeks.

Several of us (members) have been tossing around the idea of starting BR Lure Fun Season #2. Before we start season #2, we need to end season #1. Any suggestions or dates as to how and when we should end season #1?

I would hate to just place the lure back into the tackle box and forget it's long and productive journey. Does anyone have any hooks into a popular fishing magazine or with Rapala? I'm sure someone would be interested in it's journey.

i dont have any connections with rapala or any magazines, but maybe you could just email rapala and let em know what went down.

you should put it in a display box with the stats (distance traveled, fish caught, etc.) displayed too.

I'll toss my two cents in for what its worth. I think it would be great to keep it going just to see how far it can go. Of course, the obvious drawback to this is it getting hung up or lost in some manner and then having nothing left of it. But if the general consensus is to retire the current lure, then I can live with that decision too. It's been fun and if another one is started, count me in.

Like I told bassin_blvd we could still run 2 threads but only can have one sticky. It's a tough decision :-/ It would make keeping track of the season 2 lure a little harder.

I here what yall are saying and I'm up for whatever the majority wants. It's been almost a year and I would like to see it continue but then again I'd hate to see it lost. It's been a long journey for that little fella so far.

I agree it would be too difficult keeping track of two lures at the same time so I'm not going to mail out the second lure until the Mod's say go ahead.

I'm sure Glenn or one of the mod's could get something started with Rapala if Rapala was interested.

Maybe it could make it another year. If we discovered rapala wanted it we could discontinue it then, and get a new lure. Whatever the masses want though.

I got out once with it and scored el-zilcho.

Think I'm gonna try again tomorrow.If the weather is going to be foggy and calm in the morning, like I believe it will be, then conditions will be ideal

He will be sending out another new lure to pass around.

I will be starting a new thread for that after he sends it to the first participant.When I create that thread we will be taking names of those interested in participating.I also will be trying my best to keep track of the progress of the lure,where it goes,and how many fish were caught on it.

I am not sure what the new lure will be yet.
