I just started fishing these 2 years ago. The Huddle-bug weighs 1/8 oz and is 2 3/4" long. First year with limited success and confidence fishing it the way that's recommended. Last year did some modifications and absolutely crushed-em on it and built up enough confidence with this rigging technique to have one tied on every tournament and every outting. They come in 10 different colors yet I stick to 4 colors: Blck/blue, Green/purple,Brown/purple and White which works wonders on bedding fish. Haven't been posting long enough to have permission to put up th link to the site but here's a few pic's of the bait and a few of the way I've been rigging it. Wondering if anyone else out there uses them and how you rig it or fish it?
8-)
I started using them a little over a year ago. I've had a few days on the water where I was glad I had them too. I always seem to catch larger than average fish on them. I fish them with a weedless Gammy hook and weighted. They do look very real in and out of the water.
I've been using them ...well, for as long as they have been out. I almost always rig them on a 3/8 ounce football head with a light wire hook.
Yeah Jimzee that's the way I used them the first year as well, numbers and size went way up once I removed the lead wieghts they're rig it w/ and replaced them with the 1/8 to 3/16 oz Pro-spot remover. Lots of hours spent experimenting in the tub and doggie pool. ;D
Tried Mad-man,Berkley,yum yet none of them worked quite like the bug. It's so balanced it almost rights itself and lands in the stand-up defense positon 80 out of 100 times where the others failed. If it does lay on it's side a quick twich of the rod tip corrects it. Though for some reason or another I noticed during the hot months it seems to produce better rigged thier way then mine, maybe it's due to the slower rate of fall?

;D ;D Whenever Mattlures, Huddleston, or 3:16 drops a new bait, you can bet I've got a pre-order in. Its good to hear the bug is getting thrown all over the place. It really is a sweet little bait, even though I don't throw it very often.
It is kind of weird how baits can be available out west for so long before anyone really catches on. Everybody keeps talking about the "hot new basstrix paddletail tube" that thing has been out for at least 4 years LOL!
I've never fished the huddlebugs on a stand up head before, might have to try that when fish move onto beds this year!
BTW, you gotta love the pool! I go out and test baits in mine probably 15X more than I swim in the thing, LOL! My diving board makes a great subsitute flippin deck

It's all good you whippersnaper. If my walker didn't need a new wheel I'd run you down and shove Rooster Tails up your nose.
Wow, that thing is beautiful .
Nice shot of the bug
Are you guys fishing these only on bedding fish?

Not at all, everytime I'm out I've got one tied on.Though it does do amazing things for bedding fish as well
Which color is that in the fish's mouth?

Black/Blue
Do you do anything special to keep them from tearing up? How long will they last.
10.99 for 1 or 1 pack?
10.99 for a pack of 5.
They are not extremely durable. I really only use them as a panic/sight/speical occasion bait.
They have saved the skunk numerous times for me. But on those wide open days, I would recomend something a little tougher/cheaper
QuoteNice shot of the bug
dont know if i did this right, what kind of hook and weight is that?? :-[ :-[

Spot Remover
I have some clear water rocky banked watersheds that I think these might work well in. d**n baitmonkey ;D ;D

I rig it on pro-spot remover 1/8 to 3/16 oz. Copied from the site:The Pre-rigged Huddle-bug comes in eight colors and features the "Huddleston external weight system". Hooks are NOT included! You can order the Mustad #6 drop shot hooks. The Huddle-bug weighs 1/8 oz and is 2 3/4" long
IMO as to the durability, I have had days where I've used one all day and others where I'll go through 2 or 3. Like I said I have had the same bug's over a year. Granted I have lost some in that time yet who hasn't lost a few in a days worth of fishing. The only week point would be the front claws and when it's time to fill the live well I'm not worried about losing a $2 lure. $10.99 per pack 5 in a pack =$2.20 per bug well worth it IMO...Especially when I think about all the pickerel swimming around with a shiny new $15 lucky craft lip ring!
thank you burley and bassectomy, another question do you take the weights that come with them off when using the spot remover?? tia
Quotethank you burley and bassectomy, another question do you take the weights that come with them off when using the spot remover?? tia
Your welcome anytime! Yes, remove weights when using the spot! Pinch the bug (w/thumb on the underside ontop of wire insert) and your finger ontop. With your other hand grab the weights (remember to keep pinching) and slowly pull horizontally towards the tail of the craw. Not a big deal comes out fairly easy this way. They at one point were selling them w/and w/o wieghts and wish they still did.
Don't over look the way Huddelston recommends rigging it either:RECOMMENDATIONS: Rig the Huddle-bug from the underside. Go through the eyelet of the wire harness and out of the top between the eyes w/a Mustad #6 drop shot hook. When pitching or dragging through the thick stuff I'll use a weedless hook like the Gamma's weedless Finesse Hooks.
