New type of bass topwater lure! 2024

fishing user avatarwoodmaker reply :

I have made a new type of topwater lure, that I would like to have firmly tested. It can be purchased for 12$ including shipment, all the way from Denmark. Describtion: 125mm/25 gram. I have placed the frontend hook on the side of the lure, so the full profile is exposed downwards in the water. The weight is placed in the backend, so at rest the lure hangs in a vertical position. When retrieved it flips up and down while gliding across the surface, imitating the swim pattern of a injuired baitfish. Jerk pulls make it go with perfect side-to-side movements. The lure is also extremely longcasting, because of the weight being placed in the backend. Contact me here, or send me an e-mail on mail@specimengear.com.

Regards

Michael Hoffström

I think it will be hard to walk side to side with that eyelet being offset on the front, it will probably only dart to one direction.

fishing user avatarCrazedL.IFisherman reply :

People making lures is totally cool and even ones that resemble others with slight changes, but this is absolutely wrong, theres no way you made that and thats not close to cool... pawning off someone else's lure as your own. I know this because i looked at your thread and was excited, and as soon as i saw the lure i realized immediately that i own this exact lure. It was made a few years back by Mr. Thornwood. Im not positive of his first name but he has many known lures for sale including the top water bird which many of you probably have seen. But i specifically bought this same exact lure at a fishing show 2-3 years ago with all of the same EXACT features. It's just plain wrong in my book.

fishing user avatarPond-Pro reply :

What's it called?  ;)

fishing user avatarbassbob08 reply :

good looking lure.

Take a picture of it and post it.  I would like to see this guy's response when he sees that he has been discovered.

fishing user avatarwoodmaker reply :

To respond to the first comment. Yes it does slide from side-to-side. Otherwise I would not have wrote it. To the second comment. I have never heard of any Thornwood, and I have never copied anything from anybody. I am living almost around the globe from you, and I have had this lure made together with another handcrafting lure company. so if this lure is similar to other lures, so be it. It is not an intended copy of anything. Dont get me wrong, if it should ever become at problem, or if necessary, I will put any lure out of stock at ones, if things weren 't in order!

I would understand it if someone put a questionmark on things, or just gave their opinion. But directly attacking others without knowing anything for sure is, "I quote" - just plain wrong in my book!!!

So give it a rest, and ask me directly, so the answer can be correct the first time...

By the way, I have named the lure WOUNDED WOODY.

Michael

fishing user avatarFatBoy reply :

Go to google a search for "thornwood lures".  Click on top water lures then take a good look at the sidewalker.  The pic below is from the thornwood web page.  It does look uncannily similar.  Especially suspicious is the identical long cut for the "mouth".  I don't know who, if anyone, is at fault here.  But something smells extremely fishy!

fishing user avatarwoodmaker reply :

Ofcorse I needed to look into this, and having looked at the other company 's lure, I can see that they are an exact match.

I don 't know if they have bought the same lure from the same company as my company have. But I will look into this, and if necessary, I will take the lure completely out of stock.

Michael

fishing user avatarCrazedL.IFisherman reply :

First off maybe your right and i should have asked you privately but they are exact, i was about to post my lure to show everyone you didnt just come up with this out of the blue when my batteries died, so i did a simple google search and sure enough found the lure i own.  You want to see your so called unique lure? And for the record i've loved this site and have not had a problem with anyone on here, so i dont just sit around waiting to mess with other members but i do have a problem with you trying to call this your own when its some else's heart and joy and product!

Here's your lure:

fishing user avatarFatBoy reply :

BTW, the Thornwood Lures web page says their sidewalker is 5" long and weighs 0.9 oz.  This converts to 127 mm and 25.5 grams.  Hmmm....

fishing user avatarwoodmaker reply :

I am not trying to call anything unique - those are your words.

I have bought this lure through another company, and there is nothing wrong in that.

Again, I do not know if we bought the same lures, but I will look at it, and have a meeting with those responsible.

Michael.

Which one is it? Did you make it or buy it and try to sell it as your own creation?

fishing user avatarJeff H reply :

You guys all buy GYCB senko's right?  Not copies??

fishing user avatarBass Kicker reply :

man you guys need to go a little easy on this guy he hasnt looked into anything yet even though you guys have found the exact lure maybe he did buy it who knows so quit pestering the guy and let him look and see is he did purchase the lure from Mr.Thornwood so just back off

fishing user avatarjeepcrazy reply :

Wow...amazing how quickly his tune changed from "I have..." phrases to shifting to talking about the company "he buys" these from.

Based on that little nugget I wouldn't buy his bait even if it were the next Senko.  Someone forthright would sell it sooner or later.  ;)

There's a lesson in this:  Nothing is a secret on the internet anymore.  It's best to be honest about what you're doing, even if you're being a jerk.  People might not LIKE a jerk, but they can trust one.  Nobody can trust a liar.

Whee....on to the fun posts about fishin.  ;)

fishing user avatarcpvenom reply :

This is what I love about BassResource.com. Everybody knows their stuff! Within 4 hours, the guy gets busted. I love it!

BTW: I made a new type of soft plastic! It looks boring but it really works! PM me for details!

The bait will turn over so the eyelet is facing downward when retrieved just like every other walking bait ever made. The only thing "unique" about this is that it is painted sideways.

BTW, the usual policy here at BassResource.com is to delete spammers' posts. I think this approach is much more fun. Let us play with the guys a little bit first ;)

Busted

fishing user avatarGeorge Welcome reply :

I just love it: you guys with the "busted". I hear argument after argument about knock-off this and knock-off that, and how great it is to use those knock-offs, and how cheap they are.

There isn't many unique lures out there and when someone makes it Bass Pro Shop will make a knock-off with nary a complaint. What's up with all the complaints about this one?

Sounds pretty petty to me.

fishing user avatarwoodmaker reply :

To close this subject.

I guess I have to apologize for using the phraze "I have made". When it should have been, I have bought a product from a large lure factory, that I asked to make a series of topwater lures, that I could sell under my own company name.

I did not have the smallest clue, that the lure was already out there, and I do not know if they have copied the lure, or are making the same lure to other companies.

Call it whatever, this is how it went down!!!

Michael

fishing user avatarJeff H reply :

Don't sweat it man, private lableing is a pretty popular business concept in the USA. Some people are just ignorant and like to jump down others throats. But yes, a different choice of words is best when you do this kind of thing. Maybe something like..."My company is introducing a new topwater bait to our current line up...." it doesn't say you created it and it doesn't say you didn't. I wouldn't worry about it. Put your own twist on the marketing and thats what it's all about really.

And to clarify, I don't necessarily mean anybody here about jumping down throats.  I see this kind of thing all the time, more then most people do probably because they don't give any thought to what they buy.  I know of businesses who make no products of their own but private label everything they sell under their own brand label.  My guess is you will see more of this in the future in fishing tackle industry too.  Without a patent number or trademark, anythinig is fair game to piracy or copy.

fishing user avatarGeorge Welcome reply :

Jeff,

The majority of the bait company do no more than label the product. You would be supprised at just how few actually have anything to do with the manfacturing of what they sell.

fishing user avatarJeff H reply :

George,

I would be surprised but at the same time probably not as much as some people.  It's pretty amazing what is involved in the world of marketing isn't it?

fishing user avatarGlenn reply :

To clarify - this isn't spam.  Michael is an advertiser and therefore a supporter of BassResource.com.  His responses are reflective of the good character in him.  Sounds like you guys did a good job of helping him out, so let's leave it at that.  Attacks without warrant are not acceptable here.  But I don't need to remind y'all of that, now do I?  ;)

fishing user avatarCephkiller reply :

Glenn,

I, for one, didn't realize that he was an advertiser.  His username does not indicate that.  I am truly sorry for the tone we have set in this thread.  I think we could have conveyed the same information to Mr. Hoffström in a much more acceptable manner had we known he was an advertiser.  Welcome aboard, Michael and thanks for your support.

fishing user avatarwoodmaker reply :

Thank you very much.

again, I apologize to all for the bad choice of words, and I will be obligated to change or modify the lure model.

Regards

Michael

fishing user avatarSDoolittle reply :

CrazedL.IFisherman, you seem to be the only one who actually owns one of these things. I'm just wondering if they catch fish?

Advertiser or not, we did act too harshly towards him. I do apologize for the way I responded. No matter what his or her position, writer, advertiser, or just plain member, we did not welcome Michael in a friendly manner. I dont really care what a person's position on this forum is, they should all be treated with respect. Michael, I hope this does not keep you from enjoying BassResource.com. I encourage you to keep posting, and from now on you will be treated as a friend, not an enemy.

fishing user avatarHookemdown. reply :

I second that.  And Michael, good luck with the business. ;)

fishing user avatarcaptbob reply :

Reminds me of a bait from the 40-50's called a Crippled Shad. Shorter & wider laid on it's side and had a lip, looked like a minnow about to  die that can't stay upright. I think it was by Heddon or maybe South Bend. Fair to good buy no crusher. CB
