Yo-Zuri Hybrid question 2025

fishing user avatarNate D reply :

I purchased #12 Ultra Soft can I fish topwater with it or will it sink? I'm not sure if the combination of nylon and flouro would allow me to.

fishing user avatarMicro reply :

No problem.  It floats like mono.

fishing user avataradclem reply :

Awesome line.  Best of both worlds.

I just spooled up my bc with 12lb hybrid... :)

fishing user avatarRedhed reply :

i have somewhat of a dumb question. i stocked up on some 6-8 lb zuri hybrid and what knots do i stay away from? i know there are knots you stay away from using fluoro and braid but what about the hybrid?

fishing user avatarMA1232 reply :

I give the Yo-Zuri Hybrid 12lbs line a try last year.  Just like you thinking that it would be better than mono but I was wrong.  I don't see any difference.  Now, I'm looking to go with either braid or fluorocarbon.

good luck!

I was at the KY lake road trip and was using 15lb hybrid for the first time almost exclusively the whole week.  I was getting mixed results with a palomar knot.  Much better results with a double clinch.  The line is incredible, I was dragging a jig through rocks most of the week and the line held up great.  I would advise the use of a line conditioner for casting.

You didn't notice any difference?  Really?  I have been using Yo-Zuri Hybrid for quite a while now and I find it superior to mono.  Much smoother casting, very little line memory, great strength, very abrasion resistant, very little stretch etc...

I would most definitely recommend this line.

I use the palomar exclusively with Yo-Zuri, with the occasional improved clinch knot.

I had my baitcaster spooled with 12# trileine xl and thought it casted great... I spooled up with yo-zuri 12# and it was night and day difference...Without adjusting anything on my reel the yo-zuri cast farther and smoother...

And because it floats I am now going to upgrade to the 15# or higher to use for topwaters ...

fishing user avatarStingray23 reply :

So far I'm loving the Yo-Zuri hybrid. This is my first season using it and it is very smooth casting, and very manageable and strong. I just put 6# on my spinning reel and it works flawless. As far as knots go, I always use a uni-knot and NEVER lost a fish. Its a very reliable knot for me.

fishing user avatarMicro reply :

Last season I used 15# YZ Hybrid on my flipping rod.  That's the heaviest I use.   No problems using a palomar knot.  I use 8# on my light crankbait/topwater rod, 10# on a couple of other rods including my crankbait rod, and 12# on my plastics rods.  I use 8# on one of my spinning rigs.

fishing user avatarbigfruits reply :

anyone ever use the hybrid on a spinning reel? want to try 6lb on a 2500 reel with kvd l&l...

fishing user avataradclem reply :

I use the Ultra Soft for my spinning reels, not the regular hybrid and I  treat it with KVD L&L.  Works awesome.

fishing user avatarHammer 4 reply :

I have 8 lb on my spinner, didn't bother with the kvd conditioner....no need for it..

fishing user avatarBassmanfromNC reply :

Got a couple of question on ultra soft:

On their website the #6 is listed with break str. of 11.9 and the #8 is listed at 12. So should I just go with #6 since they are about the same break strength?? Has anyone tried both and seen a difference?

Ant difference between  using camo-green verses clear?

Thanks

fishing user avatarroadwarrior reply :

#6 in green is the better choice.

Even though the line is very manageable on its own,

KVD Line & Lure Conditioner will improve performance.

fishing user avatarSmokeRise1 reply :

Will Real Magic improve the performance of YZH or do we have to use KVD L&L?

fishing user avatarroadwarrior reply :

Reel Magic will help, but is washes off. KVD is a better product.

Yes, I got this line for all the reasons you mention.  However, I have a difference experience about his line.  Yes, the strength and stretch is better but the cast and memory is no difference to me.  Maybe, it just needed some KVD.  I will try Trilene 100% fluorocarbon pro. line this year.

fishing user avatarscbassin reply :

I always spray a heavy dose of KVD line cond. on my line the night before & I have no problems with either the Hybrid or Ultra Soft while fishing the next day. I don't know what it is but that stuff does work. I use 20# Hybrid on my flipping rods with no problems also.

Why green over clear?

I was wondering this to. I've used Trilene XL on spinning and XT on baitcasters for almost 21 years. I am going to try YZ hybrid with KVD L&L this year for kicks. If the floro coating makes it invisable why do the different colors matter? If it does matter then at what severity of staining do you switch from clear to green. Or; maybee better put; if you fished only one lake which starts out fairly clear and gradually stains to green throughtout the season, which one color option will benifit you most for the whole year?

fishing user avatarHammer 4 reply :

I opted for the clear on all my reels, some lakes I fish are slightly stained, some are pretty clear. Also you'll find that the stretch factor is WAY less compared to the Triline, which I used for about 3 months.

fishing user avatarroadwarrior reply :

First of all, Yo-Zuri Hybrid and Hybrid Ultra Soft are not coated.

Both original Hybrid and Ultra Soft are a bonded blend of

nylon and fluorocarbon:

http://www.yo-zuri.com/Products/ProdLine/Hybrid.htm

In clear water, original Hybrid clear or green are virtually invisible.

In stained water, smoke is a better match. Ultra soft "clear" is white

in all water, the green is a better choice.

Note: I fish all colors, both original and Ultra Soft. I don't really

think it makes any difference. Pick the color that best matches

your rod & reel!

fishing user avataradclem reply :

I use green in the Hybrid and the Ultra Soft.  Have some clear but have never tried it and have not seen any of the smoke color at our local BPS.
