Which line for my new Citica 200E? 2025

fishing user avatarcatchnm reply :

Bought a brand new Citica 200E off of Ebay for $114.99 shipped! ;)

Should be here in tomorrow's mail. This will be an "all purpose reel" due to the 6.2:1 gear ratio, what I wanted. It'll be used for everything from frogs and poppers to cranks running depths of 1 minus to 8 feet. Also for weightless Senkos, Trick worms and light T-Rigs. Maybe even the occasional 1/4 - 1/2 oz. spinnerbait.

So should I pick braid, flourocarbon, co-polymer, or just stick with my ole stand-by......Trilene Big Game 12 lb.?

fishing user avatarSpeed Worm reply :

There is no such thing as a multi-purpose line. To each application its line type.

fishing user avatarcatchnm reply :

What about mono? It was a multi-purpose line when that's all there was.

fishing user avatarBranuss04 reply :

What I do on most of my reels is I use a mono backing, braid main line, then I use the leader of my choice.  I don't have enough rod and reel combo's to cover all situations so this way I can change to whatever I want.

i think this is a bit of an overstatement

there is no rulebook, you can use whatever line you want and you will probably do just as good as the next guy.

like me, i use Powe Pro for everything, worms, jigs, topwater, cranks, spinners, finiesse, anything....even though everybody says your not supposed to use it for all that, i do, and i dont see why i shouldnt. i havent noticed any negative results.

PUT BRAID ON THAT BAD BOY!  ;)

fishing user avatarThe_Natural reply :

12lb Pline CXX will work for a variety of baits.  I like the Crystal Clear...

fishing user avatarCertified Public Angler reply :

I don't like braid on a baitcaster, I just don't think it cast very well.

That being said I don't like fluorocarbon or at least Trilene's FC.  It was not resistant to stretch or abrasion and it seems to have a nasty line memory.  I'm not a fan.

In conclusion I don't like any lines and I'm waiting for the next big thing.  The castablilty of mono, the sensitivity of braid, the invisibility of flouro, and the strength to diameter ratio of braid.  That would be the perfect line. XD.

fishing user avatarGrey Wolf reply :

braid.

fishing user avatargrimlin reply :

I've gone back to mono mainly...with the exception of one brand of fluorocarbon using strictly for jigs.

fishing user avatarkikstand454 reply :

there is already the perfect line.

yo-zuri hybrid.

get 15# if youre gonna do all that.

fishing user avatarJ Francho reply :

If you told me I could only use one line, it would be 12-15# P-Line CXX.

fishing user avatarSoCalRob reply :

Yo-Zuri Hybrid or some mono. Flouro won't do topwater well. But braid with a mono leader will.

I'd strongly look into braid though.

fishing user avataradclem reply :

I am using Power Pro braid on one of my citicas and am using Trilene Sensation on my other and can't complain about either.

Braid, occasionally with a leader, either mono or florocarbon, but not always.  Especially when fishing thick cover with frogs.

Later, ;)

fishing user avatarcatchnm reply :

I've heard both good and bad reports on the P-line CXX. Some say the line memory is just too much to handle. How about after a few casts? Does it absorb water at all? The Yozuri is one I've already considered. 15# for the Citica and 6# for my spinning reels. So P-line or Yozuri? Which color guys? Lots of clear water here in OKlahoma.

fishing user avatarkikstand454 reply :

i use the green. yozuri has flouro reflective properties, so i dont really think the clear matters in clear water. but i do think it does inn  off colored water. polly wrong but thats my thinking.

fishing user avatarSpeed Worm reply :

I fished mine with XPS FC today. Great little reel!

green for clear waters

fishing user avatarBassyak reply :

I like Yo-Zuri Hybrid in 12 or 15lb test for an "all-around" line.  It does well at almost any task.  I also like BPS Flourocarbon, but the sinking characteristic doesn't perform well for topwaters.  I pretty much reserve braid (50lb Sufix or Power Pro) for my flipping and frog combos right now (as far as baitcasters go, anyway).  I haven't found a mono that I really like more than the rest, but I have been using Stren Magnathin with pretty good success lately.

Couldn't have said it better my self i use power pro for everything.

fishing user avatarThe_Natural reply :

Pline CXX has Zero water absorbtion.  The silicone enriched abrasion coating repels water like Gore Tex.  I'm a clear line guy, which makes it easy to distinguish when my line is absorbing water and  UV rays are rendering it weathered.  It turns white.  I can leave CXX on my reels as long or longer than fluoro and it stays as clear as a window pane.  Fluoro is impervious to UV rays; but more susceptible to abrasion.  CXX actually lasts longer than any line I have used...even fluorocarbon.  Lines succumb to abrasion long before UV has the opportunity to damage them.  You've gotta love the anglers that say they leave fluoro on for 'months'.  They must be fishing zero cover/structure for their lines to avoid nicks in that kind of time frame.

Spinning tackle: Yo-Zuri Hybrid Ultra Soft #6 (.010" diameter, 11.9 lb test)

Baitcasting gear: Ultra Soft #12 (.013" diameter, 19.5 lb test)

8-)

fishing user avatarTournyFish001 reply :

got a budget?  I like gamma co-poly.  There is much better line out there than Yo Zuri IMO.

fishing user avatarTournyFish001 reply :

P-Line flouroclear is another good option when choosing a co-poly- A lot of good sticks use it as well as the gamma.  When it comes to 100% flouro then Trilene is best- a considerable number of pros are using it- even the unsponsored.

fishing user avatarMichBassMan reply :

For multi-use I'd use yozuri copoly in #12 or #15

fishing user avatarCatt reply :

Put Big Game on it & don't look back  ;)

fishing user avatarcatchnm reply :

Looks like Copolymer is the big winner so far. I'm really torn between Yozuri and Pline CXX right now though. Leaning towards the Pline though.

Got the reel spooled up with Big Game 12# in the meantime. Already casted a few times in the yard.....Suhweeeeet! Much smaller than my D models and casts as good or better. The Citicas are the only BC reels I've found that are virtually backlash free........no kidding, casted a snipped-hook 1/4 oz. finesse jig yesterday for practice. never a backlash even after I reset the brakes to 2 on only. Love these reels!

fishing user avatarcatchnm reply :

Think I'll go with Pline CXX 12# Crystal Clear. I'll put Yozuri Ultra Soft 6# on my spinning reels.
