$100 reel suggestions 2025

I am looking for a $100 2500 size reel that I will use for freshwater applications. Any advise on a smooth and light reel in this price range? I have been looking at the Daiwa Fuego LT and BG, Shimano Nasci, and the Okuma Epixor which is listed at only $43 on amazon but I am unsure which to get.

I bought the Diawa Fuego 2500-XH. I have owned mostly Shimano in the past, some costing over 200.00. The Fuego is every bit as smooth, cast's as good, and looks good too. I also bought a Diawa baitcaster..Worth a serious look.

Can't vouch for Shimano since I haven't owned one of their spinning reels but I have had my Daiwa BG for about a year now and have loved it.

I'll look into the sedona, the reel also may see some saltwater fishing on the occasion but I plan for it to be mainly just for bass.

I’m. Fan of the penn battle II especially if it might see saltwater. They’re a tank of a reel, not the lightest but certainly hold up. I bought a pflueger summit XT For $50 at BPS and am actually super impressed with it, although I won’t be using it in salt water.

I feel like there are some really good reels for cheaper than $100, like the Sedona suggested by others.

I love my Fuego 2500 XH. Awesome reel especially for the price. I owned several Shimano’s in the under $100 price range and by prefer the Fuego by far.

My vote goes for the Daiwa Fuego LT. Daiwa spinning reels seem so smooth even the $60 Regal LT feels amazing.

Go for a Daiwa BG 2500 on Amazon, or a Shimano Sedona. Great reels for the price, possibly the best under 100$. The BG is a solid more rugged reel but its 20$ more, but if it won't get beat up the Sedona is a great option.

Daiwa BG 2500 is around 90

Shimano Sedona is around 70

My suggestion is the Lew's Mach II Metal Speed Spin $79.99 full retail price. On any given day a Google search will turn up several vendors that sell it in the $50 range.

You get a whole lot of reel for the money.

-Aluminum body and sideplate
-Winn Dri-Tec paddle knobs
-10 bearings

-6.2:1 gear ratio (over 30" of line per turn)

I’ve been impressed by the Daiwa BG 2500. Solid as a rock, smoothest action and drag I, in my rather limited experience, have ever used, (has a fairly wide-diameter spool, and a reverse switch (very important to me). Does weigh 9.3 ounces but I like it on a 6’8” Yak Mojo (M/F) rod. If I was in your position I would look at the BG 2000 as well. Weighs in around 8.5 ounces but, in my opinion, holds enough line for any bass-fishing applications for which I would use it. (Funny thing is that due to previous experience with a Daiwa baitcaster and customer service, I would rather stick a 5/0 Trokar hook in my eye than use one of their baitcasters. For all you Daiwa enthusiasts, I am certainly NOT trying to bash Daiwa; I am just trying to emphasize how good I think this reel is.)

Pflueger Supreme Spinning Reel - SUPSP30X is another solid choice in that range. I've got two and really like them. There the 30X is same size as most others 2500.

Yea the BG has definitely been a tank for me so far. It's heavy for it's size but it definitely has a more rugged build because of it. Also the anodized frame is nice.

Diawa Legalis has been very solid for me at $50 off ebay. It is the same as the Fuego but for Magseal.

I prefer a reel under 8oz so I also use the supreme and president XT in the 30 size. The diawa LT reels look good but I haven't tried one yet

Flip a coin on the Shimano and Daiwa. Both will serve you well. Forget everything else.

I have 2 BG 1500's and a 2500...love em.

One 1500 is attached to a Fenwick HMG ML/F and the other to a Fenwick HMG travel rod, that I carry in the truck.

The 2500 is attached to a Fenwick HMG M/F.

Im clearly a creature of habit.

I don't think you are going to beat daiwa at the $100 price point. grab a fuego or bg and be happy. grab them off ebay with a coupon and be happier.

The Revros are hidden gems. I have 3 of them, 2 of which have been used hard for a couple of seasons now and have held up WAY better than Pflueger Presidents in similar duration of use. I replaced my last President midway through last year with another Revros and won't be going with another Pflueger anytime soon.

You can't go wrong with Daiwa or Shimano. The fuego LT looks pretty nice.
