I just got my new Crucial MH/XF rod with my curado reel. I was wondering what would be the best line if I would be using texas rigged soft plastics most of the time with some jigs here and there.
Thanks.
I recommend Yo-Zuri Hybrid #12 (green).

Oh boy here we go...Prepare for 50 different answers.Kinda like asking what kinda car should I drive. 12-17lb xps flouro for what its worth...
I love the spiderwire supermono for most stuff. Strong line, cheap price. I think its like 6$ for 220 yards or something at walmart. I've pulled logs in with the 8lb!
EDIT: I would go for Samurai braid with a fluoro leader, especially with the soft plastics.
With soft plastics, I look for a line with low stretch/ high sensitivity.
EDIT2: I think we could mention specific desired properties of the line, instead of mentioning different brands, which might confuse the OP.
I like the high sensitivity of braid for soft plastics. Power Pro, Fireline, Samurai, Suffix performance, it doesn't matter. Of course, I'd only use Samurai. That's because I have had good experience with it.
If we list the desirable properties we like in a soft plastics/ jig line, at least the thread won't go into a Samurai vs Fireline, or a Invizx vs Berkley 100% FC debate; and that might help the OP.

Well, we currently have four or five "line" threads running
on this page. Typically, we have at least one new post
every other day. So...there is nothing we are going to do
about it, the membership can respond or just move on to
something else.

Understood...Istill enjoy reading everyones responses just letting him know what to expect. There are so many quality lines, rods, reels, out there that it would be easier to recommend what products to stay away from rather than what is the "best". I am guilty of starting such threads myself. Some times you just cant help it.
T-Rigged plastics - 12# P-Line CX Prem
Jigs = 70# Diawa Samuri Braid
12-14lb XPS FC or 12-15lb CXX
I prefer braid of your brand choice...power pro... in the ...power pro... 40# test ...power pro... for all my t-rig ...power pro... and jig fishing.
...power pro...
Hehe I subliminal ...power pro... messages! 8-)
I'm just looking for the line that will give me the most sensitivty.

Then the answer is, your favorite braid (or superline) with a fluoro leader.
in 40 to 65 lb.

x2. ::cough:: PowerPro::cough:: ;D
Not trying to sound clueless, but I have never fished with a leader so if someone could direct me to an article on how to set a leader up properly that would be great. Or someone just explaning it would also work.
Most sensitivity, plus add in super smooth and superior casting, means Samurai Braid. This stuff wipes the floor with Power Pro, period. To rig up a leader, just use a heavier flouro, and tie with a double uni knot. Or don't. I gave right up on leaders, since they don't get me more bites anyway, so now I tie direct, and don't have to worry about the whole extra knot going through my guides. I use Invisix on my Curado (12lb), and use it for Tx rigs and keel weighted baits mostly.
I would use 8-17 pound Stren Original Mono.

I use an alberto knot; it's smaller and passes through the guides better. An uni-to-uni should work just fine though.
My setup consists of 6lb fluoro leader connected to 6lb dia Samurai (my worming combo is spinning). Folks generally use a heavier FC leader, say 10 or 12 lb. But the 6 lb suits me just fine for light cover/grass/weeds, so I stuck to it. I have absolutely manhandled 3-4 pounders on it, but then I'm very confident in this set-up and know its limits and capabilities. Initially, you may want to use a heavier leader. I try to keep the leader out of the reel, which means a leader length of about 6 to 7 feet.
Try Samurai if you never tried any braid before. You will be spoiled, and it's not that costly in the long run. I use only half a spool, the other half is mono backing. I bought only one Samurai spool this year, and have not respooled yet.
When T-rigging plastics, you have a lot of slack line. Be very careful when setting the hook. If you don't have *all* the slack out of the line before setting the hook, you'll snap the knot at the leader or at the hook, or maybe you'll break your rod with straight braid.
Leader or not, that's mostly a question of confidence. I do not fish gin-clear water, but I use a leader anyway. My catch rates go down by half without a leader. That's probably not because the fish see the line, but due to the fact that I am not as confident, and the presentation suffers.
Using a leader has other advantages. If you do get snagged, you don't have to lose any braid. You lose only the hook, or at worst the whole leader. Also, if you do have some slack while setting the hook, chances are you'll only lose the leader or the hook.
Well I went to my local academy to pick up the line that was suggested and there were alll sold out, figures. So since im fishing tomorrow and don't have any line i decided to pick up just some stuff up. I got SpiderWire UltraCast Ultimate Braid 20# and Berkley® Trilene 100% Fluorocarbon 12#. I was just wondering if that would work.
The braid is a little small and may dig in, but other than that you'll be fine!
lol well I dont want that to happen so is it a baid idea?
take it back and get a braid in the 10 to 15 lb mono line diameter
Quotetake it back and get a braid in the 10 to 15 lb mono line diameter
This. It won't dig in as much.
I would recommend Power Pro or Fireline.
I can't recommend a leader because I don't use them.
Alright thanks guysfor your suggestions. Unfortunately I already spooled my line with what I had because I was desperate to go fishing this morning but then didn't even wake up :'( But I will see if this set up works out tomorrow if not o well, but I think I will be fine.
Darn Kids :
Why bother even asking for advice if you're just going to do your own thing anyways?

Lol, the advice that told me to take it back was posted too late. Thats why I said it was unfortunate. I guess that is what I get for being impaitent.

Dog-gone-it!, you are dense! Throughout this thread the pound rating of the braid & mono is specified (40# to 65# for braid and 70# Samurai braid)
You bought 20# :
Ok, call me and idot and were even?

Heck with the line... you better invest in an alarm clock.
^^^
Lol I had my alarm setand it went off even. But I guess that is what happens when I go to bed at 2 am that morning
But I will be ordering line soon because stupid academy did not have anything and I don't want to drive and hour to cabela's. I will be getting firline in 40 # to 65# and with the fluoro do I just want it to match the diameter of the braid?

Re: Fireline
Get ready for some music from your rod guides then.. But it's your money and your choice I guess.
Just kidding, fireline is pretty good; used it for a while, before switching to Samurai.
14 lb test or thereabouts for the FC leader should be okay IMO. Depends on the sort of cover you are fishing. Remember, the leader is the weak point in the line system. If the line breaks, it will break at the leader-to-mainline knot, or the knot at the hook.
Iaconelli uses the heaviest line he can get away with (he was talking about the bass seeing the line). I use the lightest line I can get away with (re: getting snagged etc).
There are leader materials available on the market (stiffer, more sensitive, and quite pricey). You can go for those. Or use regular FC mainline as leader material.
Well I don't mind using Samurai. Thanks for anwsering my question, I alreasy have 12 # flouro so I will stick with that and just replace my braid.

You know, you better stick to Fireline. Else I might just have a horde of angry Fireline fans on my tail
You might want to hang around a while for others to chime in on the topic of the lb test for the leader. There are so many guys out here way more knowledgeable than I am.
Edit: Went through the thread and found that you picked up some Trilene 100% FC. I think that's good stuff. Quite sensitive and holds up well to abrasions. Check your knots though. I have read stuff about its poor knot strength; never experienced it myself.
Lol alright sounds good. I love reading advice any ways so i will be here all night
