I got a Citica this past summer and I absolutely love it, so much so that I decided I would be getting another for my next combo. I went on TW to order one but they have them marked down to $119.88, with only the RH 5.5:1 and 7.0:1 models listed. I want the LH 6.4:1 model, but it isn't even shown on the screen, like it would be if it were just sold out. Are they about to release a new model of the Citica or are they discontinuing it or what?
I have a gift card to TW so I would like to buy from them.
Thanks!
Believe it has been discontinued. New model should be on the way. I think we'll hear more at the Classic.

Do you have a link to this new model buzz? Or care to elaborate here? I haven't heard anything, just curious...
No links or anything, just rumblings of a new reel from people that I generally trust. Shimano typically releases a reel or two at the Classic every year. I don't know why this year would be any different. On 1/11/2015 at 2:17 AM, Alonerankin2 said:Do you have a link to this new model buzz? Or care to elaborate here? There probably gonna be discontinued. I'd get one when there on sale.
Why does shimano do this to there low pros??? But calcuttas are the same now as they where 10 yrs ago
The Calcutta D came out about 2 years ago and the Conquest came out last year. Both completely new designs. On 1/11/2015 at 4:58 AM, Maxximus Redneckus said:Why does shimano do this to there low pros??? But calcuttas are the same now as they where 10 yrs ago
Wow im not a shim man i do like calcuttas though, just weird. They done changed the low pros like 10 times in 5 yrs.I know they are nice reels and last a lifetime but what happens when that thumb bar breaks or side cover cracks then u have a obsolete reel.
They keep parts for several years after discontinuing them. They don't really change any more than any other company. They just stagger the releases, rather than changing the lineup all at once.On 1/11/2015 at 5:18 AM, Maxximus Redneckus said:Wow im not a shim man i do like calcuttas though, just weird. Calcutta B, which Maxx is probably thinking of, HAS been out for 10 years and is still for sale. Conquest was out for nearly that long before the CQ14 was introduced. Calcutta TEs had a pretty good tenure as well before being (prematurely) discontinued. So, I think Maxx's point about the product cycle being longer for the round reels is valid.
Calais had a similar run. The other reels are on 3 year cycles, always have been.On 1/11/2015 at 6:18 AM, Goose52 said:Calcutta B, which Maxx is probably thinking of, HAS been out for 10 years and is still for sale. Yeah it is crazy. I didn't even consider the citica being unavailable if I wanted to buy another. I may just need to pony up and buy the curado; the classic is a long time to wait for something that may happen.

A month is a long time?

No it isn't that long, but the rod gets here Monday and I fish year round. I seriously considered getting the curado anyways, and this might give me a reason to change my mind.
Even if they add some upgrades to the Citica, I think the Curado is better. It's worth the money. On 1/11/2015 at 9:34 AM, Brian6428 said:No it isn't that long, but the rod gets here Monday and I fish year round. I have the Citica and it is a good reel. but if I had a gift card to TW I would save up a couple of bucks and get the Curado I.
Having to buy from TW does limit your choices. Otherwise I would suggest a Tatula or Tatula Type R, but I don't pay full price if at all possible to avoid. My Type R cost about $11 more than what TW is selling the Citica for.

I have seen them on Ebay from reputable sporting good stores for $90 shipped, and also on sale at gander mountain right now for 10% off 99 so steal them while you can...
Their is a new citica 200 series I saw at Gander for 119 and it felt better than the older citica in the store which is a reel I like. I see the White Citica G online at alot of places for under $100 and some in the 80's, same with Revo R, BB1, and Okuma Serrano is silly low right now $85 for a reel I paid $279 when it came out 3 years ago, and it has double shielded Saltwater grade bearings and components....Plus they honor issues,Okuma casting reels are way better than they used to be, I have 3 serranos now and they are now my favorites over Daiwa Tatula, Curado, only issue is Daiwa and Shimano hold value if you want to sell and upgrade in a few years. I was able to get close to $100 for a Curado almost 10 years old...Crazy, you can buy a 1 year old Quantum Pt Smoke for $60

Not even a month. If you're referring to the BPS fishing classic, it starts this year, February 6th,and is only going to last one week.

Bassmaster Classic. Believe it starts February 20.
Very interested in seeing what they have planned for the new citica. It may be an all new design, maybe different than the curado I since the previous citicas were released at the same time with the curado. Don't see the svs infinity brakes on a 130$ reel though.
Im interested to see what they do with the Citica too. Will it come out for the Bassmaster Classic or the Bass Pro Spring Classic? One thing I miss about Shimano is that they use to make all Spinning Reels with an S name and All Casting models with a C name. WHy did they stop?

I dont know. THe Metanium and Antares are both sold at Bass Pro, so I figured that they were USDM reels. Am i incorrect?

The Met and Antares go way back, they were originally JDM reels. I guess it just depends on how you want to look at it now, they are either USDM reels or JDM reels being sold in the USDM.
