I'm almost out of my Ardent Line Butter. I used it all this summer, really helps memory. Is KVD a better choice? The Line Butter seems a little oily.

Never tried the KVD brand.

Been useing the line butter the night before I go to the lake and yes, it is oily.

KVD's Spray contains no oils at all. You can spray it right on your hands and you'll notice this. It's a product that I'd recommend to anybody. I'm fairly sure that most of the board members will recommend it also.

If you decide to swap over, you definitely should toss whatever line you have on the spool now. It's not recommended to mix line conditioners.

KVD made me a believer in using it on line I had previously had a problem with on a Stella. I'd never had problems with ANY line on the reel, but this one made it nearly impossible to manage a cast. KVD L+L made all the difference and made the line fishable.

KVD L&L is the best, been using it exclusively for the past three years. I like it a lot better then the Ardent or Reel Magic.

I have never used KVD, but I have used the ardent and what I don't like is the oily film I see on the water the first few casts. Does KVD L+L do this?

Line & Lure is a water based polymer, unlike many of the other line conditioners which are petroleum based. It will not leave an oily film on the water. Other line conditioners just coat the line, which is what you see coming off in the water. Line & Lure actually bonds to the line. It can only be removed by friction. It was specifically developed for flourocarbon and braid but will help the manageability of all types of line.

Ardent Line Butter is a fairly good product, but it's oily and will leave your hands feeling a little slippery when using it. I've gone through a bottle and a half of it without hurting anything, other than causing my reel to get dirty a little quicker than it ordinarily would have. I still like to use it on braided line because it causes less friction and noise when going through the guides and makes the braid hold it's color longer.

It feels like diluted silicone to me, and doesn't seem to do anything to the line other than lubricate it. This makes casting easier and reduces kinking, backlashes, line damage from backlashes, and birdnests. KVD is not oily at all, if fact it leaves the line with a dry, tacky, chalky feeling but actually does seem to soften the line a little, which makes it more manageable.

I use and would recommend Ardent on braid and KVD on all other types of lines, to be applied lightly at the beginning and end of all trips.

I have never used the Ardent line conditioner, so I can't comment on it. I have and do use the KVD line conditioner and it works great. I put it on the night before I go fishing and it works wonders. I highly recommend this product.

Has anyone who's used KVD line conditioner ever heard of applying the conditioner to the entire spool...then put the spool in a ziplock type bag & let it soak in until you need to put it on your reel? I either saw this on Bass Pros tv show or read it here on Bass Resource. I've never tried it but it makes sense. When you go to the KVD line conditioner website...it doesn't mention doing this. But it does say to spray on liberally and let it dry before using the line the 1st time you apply the conditioner. Anyone else ever heard of this?

I've considered putting KVD on retail spools of line, but haven't tried it yet. I was thinking it might extend the shelf life of the bulk spools of line that I have. I'd like to know more.

I let the conditioner dry on the line after the first application, as directed. It definitely does work better if you let it dry or at least marinate for a few hours before use, and not just for the first application either. I've had the best results when applying just a few little squirts before and after every trip, and letting it dry slowly overnight in the semi-humid boat locker. I don't even go through a full bottle per year doing this, and I think I use quite a bit. A bottle goes a long ways.

I don't know about this, but when you're spooling new line on your reel, apply L&L to a synthetic cloth and run your line through it. One other thing about L&L, since it's not petroleum based, it is completely safe for your reel and will actually help fight corrosion. .

I have applied the conditioner to the line as you put it on your reel...thanks. I did shoot off a email to KVD's website asking for the same info on applying his conditioner but haven't heard back yet.

I have never re-applied it. During the fishing season I'll change line about every three weeks or so. KVD will definitely last that long.

Why would I ever want to spray something like this on a bait? What earthly good could ever come of that?

KVD's works great. Another I ran across a few years back when I was having nightmares with loops on a Shimano Spirex is called Tangle Free I initially found it on Cabela's dont know if they still handle it but a link ishttp://www.punisherlures.com/line/line-dressing/tangle-free-line-dressing.html

The bottle claims it's an anti-corrosive. I spray it on my bass jigs and terminal tackle because I have minor rust issues sometimes due to bait salt. I started the middle of last year, and I noticed an improvement right away. I had less rust in my jig box from salty trailers. I remove chunks before storing jigs, but I don't usually remove trailers that are threaded on.

What has me concerned is the addition of scent and/or taste to the baits from this stuff. Many of us go to great lengths to avoid contaminating our baits with chemical scents. I would have guessed that a bait sprayed with KVD would get spit faster than it got bit. I'd be happy to be wrong about this stuff. Rust is always a problem. I have half a dozen DO NOT EAT packets in every box, but still have some occasional rusting.

I wouldn't be surprised if bass could taste KVD on a lure, although I didn't notice any problems with bass spitting the jigs early. Since using it as an anti-corrosive, I made an effort to use more Megastrike on my jig skirts last and to reapply more often, trying to offset any negative effects of the KVD. I'm convinced that the bass were holding on a little longer after I started slathering the jigs in Megastrike. I'm happy with KVD as an anti-corrosive on jigs, and I'll keep using Megastrike to offset any scent or taste. You'll never know until you try it.

Good thought Bass Thumb. I think I'll give it a shot. I will start on the box of jigheads I use least. Those are the ones that seem to be rusted most.

If I have anything to report at the end of the season, I will.

KVD works....period..been using it for over 3 years now..

i always use it the night before..

i can definitely tell a difference from when i didn't use it.

it's worth every penny.. and lasts a long time

I've never done it but have heard of people spraying WD-40/Reel Magic on baits as an attractant. I've never heard any such claims in regard to KVD which is the only way to go for line conditioner.

I've heard that one also, but mainly from saltwater fisherman. Sometimes it's CRC 556.
