Senko Rod 2025

I'm looking at putting together a set up fot weightless t-rigged and wacky rig senko's. I wind up throwing them a lot so I'd like to have a set up that I will primarily use for these rigs. I'm looking at a Dobyns Champion but I'm not positive what power or length of rod to get. I just watched a video of a guy using the 704sf which is what I was looking at. I also found the 763sf on sale at tw however. Do you think the 763 is too long for skipping under docks and cover? and is the 3 power heavy enough around that structure? Also, if you have any other ideas for another spinning rod I'd be more than happy to hear them. Thanks.

powell max 703cef is a great rod for weightless plastics.it has the perfect amount of tip for throwing weightless plastics

I was looking at the Endurance and the Max too. I have two Endurance rods which I like A LOT, one being the 723CEF, but they're both casting. I'm looking for a spinning rod. Do you have experience with the spinning rods?

yes I also use a max 703 spinning rod that works great for weightless plastics.I use this rod with 15lbs braid with an 8 or 10lbs leader and have never felt like the rod has lacked any power.

Thanks. Do you feel like the spinning rods balance as well as the casting rods? What reel do you have on it?

Go with the Avid 6'8" MXF. Perfect for what you want. There was a used one in the Flea Market a few weeks ago.

Lommis GLX BSR 852 is a good senko rod. The NRX 852 also very good and very breakable.

I use my Fenwick Elite Tech Smallmouth 6'9" medium power extra fast action spinning rod for throwing senkos, the rod loads up perfectly to make casting and skipping effortless and it is very sensitive and the extra fast action makes it great for hard hook sets to drive the hook home through dense plastics when texas rigged yet still forgiving enough to keep fish pinned when hooked with a small octopus hooks used with a wacky rig. The best part is you get a high quality rod without breaking the bank.

I use a Mossyback BSR852. Very nice rod, and can whip a senko or Ika a mile!

I have not found that with any st croix's. i basically only fish st croixs. one rod manufacturers "medium" rod may be different when compared to another company. I can tell you for a fact any of the medium fast or extra fast action st. croixs will do the job for what you are looking to do. it will also double as texas rig rod for fishing plastics with 1/8-1/4oz bullet sinkers

I wouldn't necessarily say heavier, but the action of the XF is definitely fast which makes it perfect for soft plastics. I had this rod and it only saw soft plastics the entire time I owned it before I sold it to another BR member. I only sold it because I came across a deal I couldn't pass up on a Legend Elite in the same model. Solid rod for the money.

I use a 6'10" Falcon Bucoo MH bait casting rod for throwing wacky rigged senkos. I generally throw them using 14 lb fluorocarbon and a Calcutta 200 TEGT reel. A wacky rigged senko weighs roughly 3/8 ounce.
I find I can pitch to any target within 50 or 60 feet with this rig. If I wanted to take a wind up I could push it farther, but I generally don't need to.

My champion 703SF skips tubes, beavers, and senkos like a dream. If you fish a lot of cover you might want to bump up to the 704.

I second this, I bought one last week and it is a pleasure to fish. My opinion this rod is underrated and is comparable to rods in the 200 dollar range, so at 129 retail it is well worth it, but you can usually find it for less. I can get them regularly priced at 99.

What he said, compared to my Shimano and Fenwicks Mediums the St Croix rods definitely feel more MH when you compare them side by side from my experience.

i like a st croix rage in, you guessed it, 6'8" MXF which is the same blank as the avid. I really prefer the XF action for weightless techniques.

Avid 6-8 or if you want an upgrade the GLX852S. That's a great senko stick. As great as there currently is, imo.

7 ft mh/f Fenwick Techna AV casting rod for all plastics including senko's.
7 ft m/h Shimano Teramar inshore spinning rod for wacky rigged senko's and all others.
[Looking at a Phenix MI m/xf spinning to replace the Teramar]

This would be my choice if I were going spinning.
I would go with a 733 for casting.

I fish t-rigged senkos on either my 683c or 703c. I wacky rig with my Extreme 703s
