Bottom contact rod 2025

I'm currently using a 7'2" MH Zodias as my jig/worm rod. I live the feel of it, but I've noticed it isn't as sensitive as I would like for bottom contact lures. I think it would serve better elsewhere.
I'm looking for a rod to use strictly for jigs and worms.
I'm really looking at ALX, Tatula Elite, and iRod. My budget is $200. A little more or little less doesn't matter. I'm waiting for Black Friday before ordering anyways.

ALX Zolo Deputy is a good all around jig & worm rod, not sure what you are looking for?

The bps carbonlite 2.0 MH/f is what I have and I really like it for $120.

Heard nothing but good things about ALX rods. Same goes for Alpha Angler rods. You could also step up to the Expride lineup.

I would consider falcon and hammer over ALX. I don’t feel their rods are sensitive enough for the cost.

The OP has a higher end Shimano Zodias, why would he be happier with the Curado?

I have a zodias and it doesn’t really get anymore sensitive than that for me.
However if I was gonna buy another 200$ rod I would probably get the Big sexy by
Favoriteusa I’ve always been fond of that rod probably watching to much Lake fork guy on You
Tube, or even better go Dobyns champion XP !!!

The Zodias is plenty sensitive. I don't think anything in that price range is going to be noticeably better.
The Champion Xp has some great actions in the line up but sensitivity wise it's no better ,and maybe not as good as the Zodias .

Wouldn't exactly call Zodias "higher" end, the cost difference aint much.
The Curado is twice the rod the Zodias is without the cheap EVA grips.

I like the St. Croix AvidX. I think it was $220. I use a MH/Fast for jigs.

In my opinion Curado rods are an advanced version of the Crucial.
They're are built on a hybrid high-modulus UD carbon with Nanoresin blank.

I have a Crucial. 6'6 med heavy. Its been an excellent rod. In my area very few guys fish Shimano rods. Their reels are popular, but the rods not as much. I think their some of the best on the market. I sure do like mine

I think you’re about as sensitive as you can get for sub $200. Maybe the avid x would be an upgrade?
i also suggest looking for deals on used rods. I’ve scored a few used GLX for $250 recently.

That’s good to know. I might have to get a Curado rod. I sure do miss my Crucial that I broke a couple years ago.

I’ve never used a Zodias so can’t really recommend anything that I know in comparison is better. But in or close to that price range some very good options are the Kistler Helium 3, or the St Croix LTB - on sale these will be close to $200. I’ve heard good things about ALX but have never used one.

Can confirm, picked one up recently and I absolutely love it. It's made learning and getting confident with jigs/Texas rigs much easier

I have a Denali Lithium 7' MH/fast (one of the worm/jig rods they make) that I feel it is a very sensitive high quality light rod. I do love my Kistler helium 3's also.

St croix avid 7'mh-f. Very sensitive, versitile, with good tip action and plenty of backbone.
I reccomend the standard over the x as well. I dont buy into the microeye koolaid.
I keep a 3/8 or 1/2 jig on mine 24-7. Casts very well, but the tip action lets me pitch super easy too.

I have tried an avid x and still own one. They are good rods but for casting i will still go back to the standard versions. I love the action of the 7mhf blanks from sc3-sc5 and i have at least one of each in that power.

If you're not using braid, you will make a big step in sensitivity by changing to it.

The Zolo is a lot more sensitive than the Fury.

I have 2 Avid rods and an Avid-x. I only handled a Zodias a couple years ago, and the Avids are marginally better. The thing I like about the Avids is this: they will HANDLE THE FISH. Period. They are strong, robust rods. I fish where there are wipers. Those are hybrid bass, striper x white bass. They're one of the few fish that attack head-on, and they go like a runaway freight train. I might break my line, but the rods take it in stride. I've seen no rods the same weight and the same sensitivity that have the fight of the Avids. So when I fish a 10" Anaconda or Hang Ten where there are trees, the Avid does the job just fine. Great sensitivity, and great strength. And the St. Croix warranty is second to none. jj
edit: It makes a huge difference which line you use, too. That's pretty much determined by your depth.
