I think I had read somewhere that a new Tatula model is expected out this year with SV Concept. Can anyone confirm this, speculate which current models (100, F, CT, etc), or something completely new, and possible release date?
From what I've read, it seems it's going to be the ct model. Beyond that I don't know anything. I've heard bassmaster release but this is just rumors from other forums. Not sure there is any concrete info at this time.
i can say if you are not familiar with sv spools it will be worth the wait. I love all my sv reels.
Ehler has a new commercial during MLF for the new Daiwa Tatula CT SV.
Release date I would bank on the week following ICast and hope for sooner /w the Japan show this month I'm sure they will be on display.
Price point you can pretty much bank on adding 100$ to the reel. Maybe 70 to keep it at 199 MSRP. Hopefully it can be found cheap like other tatulas. SV spools are awesome. If they can get this reel under 200$, this is going to be heck of a buy.

If the Tat CT and Zillion SV TW share the same thing I wonder if the SV spools will swap between these reels. Or if one could buy a Tat CT and then buy an SV spool for it?
I have been debating between getting the Zillion SV TW, SV103, or waiting for the Tat CT SV.
The Tatula and Tat CT reels currently have full axles on the spools, like a shimano. The SV spools have Daiwa's little stub axles like their previous reels, so it wouldn't be a direct swap. If they are doing a Tat CT SV they're either going to have to make it like the zillion SV with different frame material or redesign the SV spool system to work with a full axle.

The current Zillion SV TW spool does not drop into the current CT. It's a different spool design. They do share the same frame dimensions. The new SV spool won't drop into current CT tatulas. Current Tatulas use a spool shaft design where SV spools do not.
I would opt for an SV103 if I had to choose between the 3 you are wondering around.

Thanks for the info. I may end up buying all 3 and keeping the one I like best.
I ended up ordering a SV103 last night since that old TD-Z and original Zillion frame (made in Japan) is a beautiful and classic design. Plus, it is made of aluminum and though the spool is A7075 instead of Duralumin, the difference I heard is barely (if at all) negligible. There are a few guys on another forum that swear by the SV103 comparing it to the old TD-Z reels from 1998-2005 over many newer designs.
The new Tatula SV (from what I heard) is going to be called the Signature series (I read) and will probably be released at the Classic. There is also a new aluminum Steez A SV TWS reel which should be awesome! Daiwa really seemed to step up their game in the last few years in the mid priced market, but they have to watch that they don't offer to many similar models/varieties that offset sales of each. If they keep the price points far enough away, every angler will have a good reel that they can step in to and up from in the lineup.
The SV103 is an overlooked reel and I'm not sure why. Possibly the weight of it would be the only possibility.
I am afraid the Daiwa lineup is getting as confusing as the Lews lineup! I hope as they bring forth the new models they drop some of the models that share the same price points. Their selection between $75 and $200 is getting cramped.

+1 I loveeeeeee mine
Received my Tatula SV TWS this morning and I can't wait to fish it!
As I expected it looks amazing, it is slightly lighter than the CT and it is the same size. I got the 8speed in lefty. The reel feels solid like the other Tatula's do. It looks very impressive. I suspect it will perform in an impressive manner as well.
Sweet man! Definitely follow up with a report when you get a chance to fish it! I have been on the fence between and regular ct and a the SV for a while now.
what's different between the tatula ct and tatula sv?. i think the sv has a shallow spool but what else?
how about the braking systems , are they the same?
The Tatula SV is one sweet reel! Not that the CT reels aren't, but the SV concept uses a different spool inductor which allows for better management (or elimination of) backlash even with lighter lures. Daiwa has used this SV concept now across the board for since about 2015 in the U.S. There are also JDM going back a year or two before that.
Here is what the U.S. has:
Steez SV TW
Steez SV (I think about to be discontinued)
SV103 - Discontinued (same frame as TD-Z/Fuego/OG Zillion)
SV105 - Discontinued or about to be (same frame as Sol/Alphas)
Zillion SV TW
and now the Tatula SV (Bassmaster Classic release)
The difference with the Tatula is that the spool is not free floating like the others and there is a shaft in it. Nonetheless it's an awesome reel. For lighter baits, you would benefit from it. But the CT and CT Type-R are no slouches.
...and no, unfortunately to my knowledge, the Tatula SV spool does not fit into a CT or Type-R...I think they are a mm or two short (or big)...I forget. I hope this helps...

Now that they are discontinued it seems the demand has gone way up. Some are saying they are one of the best TD-Z/Zillion framed reels ever made. They were only made for the U.S. market from 2015 until now so they had a short run. I have three (two of the XS and one H) and I think they are a truly solid reel. In fact, the build quality is better than most reels out there for sheer quality components (aside from things like the Conquest, etc.). But at over 7oz., they are heavier than most reels. On a proper rod though with good balance, that weight would be almost non noticeable to me. TW put them on sale for $202 back during the classic and I grabbed a couple.
I've been using the SV Tat for quite a bit now, and I absolutely love it.
Casts better, more accurate and farther than the Tatula CT and that is hard to believe. It's hard to backlash the reel and it really is great for skipping baits.
I was casting into 20mph winds the other day with a 1/8oz T-Rig and had no issues. Excellent reel and very comfortable to use.
i have a few questions for you daiwa guys.
are the tatula sv and tatula ct the same physical size? i'm not familiar with daiwa's nomenclature 100,103,105, ct, etc.
i've tried a tatula sv and found it to be very smooth and backlash free at the expense of a little casting distance. it could be that i need a little more time with it but it seems like with lower brake settings it may have been susceptible to backlash. at higher sttings it was backlash proof and had respectable distance considering it was impossible to bird nest it. the frame was a little larger than i had hoped for but overall a very nice reel.
my biggest concern about changing over from lews reel is the frame size. any chance that the tatula ct's are any smaller?
By is a small real very comparable to my lews lfs. It has a different feel (not in a bad way) I pick up my ct every chance I get. Have 4 of them. And for 100 bucks on auction sites they are great. Look up how to set up a reel with the magforce z brakes on them. Just a bit different than normal. I did this and got greater distance out of my cts
Tatula CT, CT type R and SV, I believe they use the same size flame which is smaller than regular Tatula. If you want smaller reel you will have to get SV105. BTW I'm not a 100% daiwa guys just yet but happen to have Tatula CT and Alphas SV105 and like it a lot. My next reel gonna be another SV105 for sure.
Does anyone know if the Tatula SV TWS has carbontex or boca bearing upgrades. I know they have them for the other models but i'm not sure if they will fit.
A spool change won't affect either of those.
