They are both good reels. Go with your gut and you will be happy. I'm partial to the Curado I which was on sale for 150 not too long ago ( might still be). Same as citica but with some upgraded bearings.
Another reel I happen to like is the lews tournament mb. Smaller profile, lighter, great caster. Not sure how it will do in the long term durability dept. but a nice reel non the less. No problems yet with mine.
There are other great reels out there as well that others I'm sure will chime in on

I would get both in your hand and see which profile you like better. Personally i couldnt stand the new citica/curado frame, but i love my CT's. You can get the CT type R for under 150 a lot of places, and would be worth the upgrade for sure from the regular ct. As for shimano you can as stated usually find the Curado for right around 150, and that again would be worth the upgrade imo.

You can get the type R for $130 and the regular CT for $100.
That makes them really hard to beat IMO.

I owned a Citica for less than a month. Not going into details but it failed. Replaced it with a Daiwa CT Type R. Very happy with it

I know it's a little more than you planned on spending, but I would wait a little bit and get the new Tatula with the SV spool. Street price should come down to around $180 pretty soon like the other Tatulas have done shortly after coming onto the market. MSRP is $200 right now, but it's a different beast especially for the price! Just an idea worth thinking about! I love this reel almost as much as my Metanium MGL, ALMOST! lol

Considered both and went with the Tatula CT Type-R. You can still get them for $119.99, which is partially why I went that route, and don't regret it at all. The Curados 200s are on sale for $129.99 too, and the 70s can be had for $150.
Cant speak for the Curados but am loving the CT in the limited time I've had it. Haven't had a terrible birds nest with it, and after having it dialed in, I can cast it without even having to thumb the spool.

I am partial to Daiwa, so I will admit that up front. I have sold off all of my Shimanos and most of my BPS reels in favor of 4 Tatula Type Rs, 1 Exceler and 2 Tatula CTs. I prefer all of them even over my old Curado and Chronarch reels.
For me they cast better and have great brake systems. I intend to change 6 more reels over to CTs and Tatula SVs in the near future. So my suggestion is pretty easy to figure out. I use my stuff to chase bass but also stripers ands big blue cats.

I've owned dozens of Daiwa reels, but I am partial to Shimano (both salt & fresh).
BTW: The Curado is currently on sale

I got my CT-R last week, and did have one baaaad birds-nest - but I was sidearming in the driveway and somehow my dummy weight bounced off my truck just as I released the spool. Took me an hour to untangle that brand new spool of line, lol.

I sold all my Shimano 200Es and got the Tatula CTs. Haven't tried the new Shimano braking system, but I believe that Magforce Z is better than the VBS systems from Shimano before. All good stuff mind you, but I was diehard Shimano and I really do think the Daiwas are better casters.

You should also consider a JDM Casitas MGL.
150 size, light weight reel with an MGL spool and the improved SVS brakes.

Oh no!! LOL Atleast you were in the driveway and not on the water when it happened. I've done that with another reel, accidentally getting caught in a tree on my back cast. Had to pick at the spool for 15 min while watching and hearing splashes on the water of bass feeding. Longest 15 min of my life!

I have a couple of Tatula CT (8.1:1) and they fish well. However, my Curado I (and 70) fish (cast, retrieve, palm) better for me. YMMV. The Curados did take me longer to dial in, but once I did, they're great.

Had that happen 2 weekends ago on the water with a different reel. After 10 minutes I started cutting, and ended up having to tie on another 60yds of fresh line.

Curado 70 and 200 are on sale. Get them, of course I'm a Shimano fan. But Daiwa and Shimano make awesome reels.

I'd give it a few months. All of the Tatula prices drop after a while at certain online retailers. It's why you can get the Tat CT for $100 and the type R for $130. Even the Tatula rods can be had for $100.
