BPS has these on-line at clearance pricing - $59.88. Right-hand only. I just got two....
Have fun!
Shhhhhh!! Darn it goose you had to let the cat out the bag!! Guess I'm gonna have to step up and place my order ! Lol
You noticed that I ordered mine first....then spilled the beans....
Yea I see that!! I was GONNA do the same thing Monday when I got paid. Guess I'll have to go ahead and bite the bullet.
Hopefully you get one thats good.
You are probably thinking of the Gen2 Carbonlite (the black 5.9oz reel) - some issues there for some folks...including me. I have a "grindy" one - but it still works, reels in fish.
Never heard of anyone having any problems of note with the Gen1 (gold) models...
these reels were amazing, I found one used in lh for 50 shipped and I have to buy another handle for it because of a crack....I like it that muchOn 12/30/2012 at 7:55 AM, LgMouthGambler said:Hopefully you get one thats good.
No, I think it was the gold ones they had on special last year as well. A few people I know had purchased them back then, and ended up going through 2 or 3 before getting one that wasnt noisey or grindy. On 12/30/2012 at 8:18 AM, Goose52 said:You are probably thinking of the Gen2 Carbonlite (the black 5.9oz reel) - some issues there for some folks...including me. The gold one I had was smoother than Billy Dee Williams, I miss it. The newer one, not so much, wasn't as bad as people reported though in roughness. The Bezel fell out on the new one around the line guide so I returned it.
Should never have traded in the gold one. I'm tempted to buy a rh for cranking if still on sale after new years.

Thanks for the heads up, at this price it is a can't miss deal.
Wow thanks for the heads up. I ordered two. I have one already and love it. I was planning on buying one of the carbonlite combos with the gold reel around the spring sale.
Thanks Goose, called them up last night and bought 2 of them. Both of mine that I have now are smooth as silk, nice reels.
Just pulled the trigger on one!! Already have one and love it.

Hmm...
Issues right out of the box and over time. Sounds like problems with design, engineering,
components, craftsmanship and quality control. "Value" is more than a matter of price. I
think the money is better spent on reels that have stood the test of time. My preference
would be "Smooth, strong, silent and reliant".

Seriously...your not even bashing the right reel. The Gold carbonlites are amazing reels that are holding up very well. Theres a reason they have a cult following....COME ON MAN!!!
Hmmm...
Sounds like a popular reel at half price that is getting discontinued. Sounds good to me.
I like this approach better than downgrading the components, changing the paint job and charging the same price.
Thank you Johnny Morris.

Well, as I reported above, I'm not aware of any issues with the Gen1 Carbonlites. I will soon have 4 of them so I obviously have confidence in them (along with the total of 17 BPS BC reels that I will soon have). The CL is basically a PQ with some aluminum bits (main gear, drive shaft, worm shaft, etc.) My 5-Year Challenge PQ has reeled in over 600 fish up to 50 pounds, and completed probably around 50,000 casts so far. My 6 PQs cost me an average of $64 each - GREAT values. Will these reels last 50 years like an ABU Ambassadeur 5000 ... nope. BUT, they don't have to. Value is indeed more than price. One definition would be services received for price paid. If the puchaser feels that the reel provides service commensurate with, or exceeding, the price paid, then it has been a splendid value and can be considered consumed/used-up/totally depreciated, whatever term you choose to use.
Now, your statement: Issues right out of the box and over time. Sounds like problems with design, engineering,
components, craftsmanship and quality control.
Please post or describe your objective evidence that there have been issues "out of the box and over time." I am also curious to know if you have such an extensive background in a manufacturing environment that would give you the ability to state that there are inherent problems in the entire product cycle from design to delivery based on the evidence presented in this thead. I worked in the Quality field for 40 years, including more than 30 years in aerospace manufacturing and I couldn't come to that conclusion based on the evidence presented. Furthermore.........................
STOP - I have to quit typing. It's not worth my time. I don't care what you say. RW - you are said to be a great guy, but you are so full of it sometimes. I love ya buddy but I got better things to do than spend a lot of time clearing out the smoke that you blow. A better use of my time would be to go fishing. Catching hundreds of fish a year, including bass up to 9 1/2 pounds, on equipment that "experts" on this board consider to be "unfishable." I perform the impossible nearly every day. To date, I have not worn out any of this unfishable equipment, and I have caught fish on 745 days over the last three seasons. It's one thing to sit behind a computer keyboard, and trash products. It's another to go fish them, then report personal experience with successes or failures. In my case, I mostly have success to report (there ARE issues with the Gen2 CL).
And my perspective? In BC reels, I have (will soon have) 17 BPS reels, 3 Abus, 3 Daiwas (PX Type R, Zillion, Sol), 7 Shimanos (Conquest 50, Core 50, CTE100GT, 200E7, three 50E's). I have all this gear, yet I still fish my BPS reels. Why? Because they work, reel in fish, and represent great value. Proven.
Phew......Okay, start again. I have offered the board members a tip on where they can get a reel that, in my personal experience, based on my own ownership, and based on (an extension of) the documented test results of my PQ 5-year challenge reel, will offer purchasers value exceeding the $60 investment. What people choose to do with this information is entirely up to them.
All this for a $60 reel..................................geez
Uncle!
I missed the Generation 1 vs 2 distinction. I would delete my post, but since it has been
quoted and the basis for your very detailed reply...All I can say is your point is made with
me.

RW, I have had these reels apart several times and looked at their design and construction. I have not found any reason why they would not be just as reliable in everyway as the PQ. In fact I think it may be a slightly better reel for the money. I will probably ruffle a lot of feathers with this comment but when you take them apart and compare them piece by piece they are almost identical to the Lews reels, and share a lot of parts with the Revo family of reels. I have pitched a lot of baits with these reels and they work well for that, they cast heavier baits in the 3/8oz range as well as you would expect, but what surprised me was their ability to cast 1/4oz and lighter baits fairly well. In short I have had no issue with these reels, and have not heard of any problems with them outside of the normal range of issues for any reel. I looked last night to see if I could find negative reviews and there were a few,but I was surprised at the number of people who use these reels regularly and have nothing but positive comments.
I will stand by my original comment of a great deal.
I agree.
I misspoke or miss-typed as the case may be!

They are all made by the same company wich is why the design is so similar. I think the frame is a little smaller compard to the pq and believe it is more in line with the lews. I have a tournament pro and they feel really close in size. The internals look very VERY similar as they do with most all pure fishing products.

I understand what your driving at, but there is a little difference. Lews and BPS are not apart of Pure Fishing, they are big enough that they contract their own reels built to their designs. There is no doubt that they are being produced in the same factory in Korea as the Abu and Plueger reels of Pure Fishing. There is another large Korean mfg of fishing reels also, they produce reels under the Silstar, Pinnacle, and I believe they are the same that produce some of the Daiwa reels like the Lexa and the Viento, W&M.
Pure Fishing consists of these brands:
Abu Garcia®
All Star Rods®
Berkley®
Fenwick®
Johnson®
JRC®
Mitchell®
PENN®
Pflueger®
Sebile®
Shakespeare®
Spiderwire®
Stren®
Yeah I realize they are not actually part of the company but they have built reels for bps for a long time and I read somewhere that they were building the new lews. I could be mistaken, but the internals of all my bps reels my lews and abu are almost identical except for the drag design. I also know they are not exactly the same as far as materials being built. Was just saying they are of the same pedigree.
Whoaa!!! This thread got out of hand. A guy was simply trying to let people know of a good deal on a decent reel. I guess thats what u get for going against the Shimano posse. I'm a pinnacle fan myself for their quality at a given price, I find them hard to beat, since not everyone can afford a $200 reel.
I might get banned for this by the Shimano crew , buuuut I just purchased a US Reel Hibbdon 800SX for $40 off Cabelas and can't wait to get it in.
Really, banned?
I apologized and was wrong. I would have deleted my post, but it was quoted
and I wanted to leave Goose52's comments (and others) in context.

LOL...just ragging on the Shimano guys, gotta get those jabs in when you can
Banned? Lol, we need all the help we can get. Haters hate hard core. Its all in fun.On 12/31/2012 at 6:43 AM, fowlskies said:LOL...just ragging on the Shimano guys, gotta get those jabs in when you can
Haha...no hate going on here. I thought that comment might get a few you guys riled up. Just trying to have a little fun on a day where the Giants didn't make the playoffs.
I fish lefties, every time there is a sale it never fails they dont have one, oh well I guess Ill keep forking out full price cause im not about to switch hands mid cast cycle.
Tell me about it I'm in the same situation trying to find a rifle. There are always sales for righties with scope included, not so for us lefties...luckily I use right handed BCs coming from using spinning reels exclusively.
This came in an email from BPS this morning. The cat's out of the bag now for sure....
Yeah I got the same email. There won't be many more for long. I told several people that I know that fish. They bought a couple yesterday.
they are out of stock already. d**n it. i wanted 2.
That was quick

i hear ya
Wow.... Glad i Got mine the other day.
Bought one for my dad (glad I got one before you guys bought them all up). I have one and only my chronarch's get more time on the water. It's a great reel. My only complaint is the drag is a little light. Road warrior, have you tried one? It pains me to say it but it's smoother than any of my shimanos.
Just got my email that its been shipped...YAY!!
I got both of mine today. Sweet reels.

And this is why RW is the man. How many people get rebuked on an internet forum and come back with an apology?! Kent is the man period. Goose, you are the man as well, but y'all get the point.
Heads up!, looks like they are back on sale on the BPS website...get ya some!!

I don't see that you can add them to your cart. Just like it has been all week.
I just got mine in, bought one used in LH off of a forum and I put it back on my carbonlite MH....feels so light. Im not letting this one go, made the mistake once already.
