I had my line break yesterday costing me my last black colorado terminator and i was snaged on a dang branch. i am using Vanish flouro 20# i do the trilen knot i believe its called where you loop it threw the eye twice wrap six times pas threw the loop wet and cinch. well yesterday it broke on the know with hardly any pressure this isnt the first time iv had this problem either but i went all last year with out a hitch. now this year same problems just on stronger line. is it the knot im using should i switch to a palomer or cant you use it with flouro. and i DONT want to have everyone telling me just switch to brand x cuz im not gonna not anytime this year anyways.
I tie a palomar for almost everything. Fluoro is very sensitive to friction/heat so make sure to really wet the line well and cinch your knot in a smooth even pull.
Vanish isn't very abrasion resistant. Its meant to be a stretchy, open water line, and originally designed for the walleye market. I wouldn't use it any situation that involved cover.

Exactly this, also noting that it does not have great knot strength because of its inherently low abrasion resistance.
Vanish=Vanishing Lures
I wouldn't switch to a Palomar with fluorocarbon line. I think any knot that includes wraps around the standing line cushions the shock to a fluoro line knot, including the one you're using - so I don't think that's the problem. If you ain't gonna switch lines, so be it. But I'd be using a regular copolymer line for spinnerbaits.
I have been using a Palomar with fluoro ranging from 4# diameter to 100# for many years without any abnormal issues. Some pretty big fish, too, including northerns, brown, and steelhead trout. Fluoro separates the men from the boys when it comes to knot tying. If there is a kink in the line before the knot on the mainline, then you failed, tie again. I know that sounds abrupt, but it's the hard truth.
As for Vanish....my friends have a saying, "Vanish, it's what happens to you fish when using it." LOL.
That said, my friend Noel swears by the stuff, but he's using it in open water:
I personally don't think it's a good bass line. Now for fishing spinnerbaits with copoly, I couldn't agree more. P-line CXX in 10 or 12# should work fine. In fact, you can use a plain old improved cinch knot with it, and it'll never give if you tie it right.
How old was the line? You don't say in your post if you freshly spooled or if you have had the line on the reel for an extended period of time. Was it in a hot vehicle for a while? Vanish has been very good for me, fresh, even when fishing gnarly stuff.
Its a brand new spool that's why I'm not just gonna toss it for a new line I used it last year on a diffrent set up for jigs around rocks covered with zebra muscles never had a issue. Id toss it for something else if I was single or made more money but if I were to tell big momma I gotta get new line when this isn't a week old she wouldent ever let me hear the end of it.
Make 100% sure the knot stays wet the entire time you cinching it down. It sounds to me like it got heated up when you were tying it and weaken your line.
When tying your knots please be cognizant about "burning" the line.
If you see any "waves" in the line by your bait, cut it out and start all over again.
Also, run your thumb fingernail along the line.
If you feel any cuts, nicks, abraisions or waves, cut it out and start over.
Avoiding burning your line when tieing any type of know with any type of line, excepting braid, is critical to your success.
Also, do not point your rod tip at the fish when fighting it. Keep rod tip up, down or to the right or left. If you point your rod tip at the fish there is a lot of pressure on the knot and the knot can fail.
A Palamor knot is a great knot to use if you are careful when tying it.
I know that you said to not switch lines, but this is one exception where I would. You couldn't count the number of horror stories people have had with Vanish. In this case, I would switch. I would not fish for bettas with Vanish, 20# or otherwise. They might break it.
The last time I used Vanish ( about 3 years ago ) the Smallmouth of my lifetime vanished before my eyes when I bent over to lip it. Shortly after my Vanish line disappeared off my reel.
Seriously, are you guys that break this stuff using broom handles or pool cues? 20# works very nicely for me and I have not had any problems with it.
I'm still using it with the same knot fishing in rocks and trees without a problem besides that 1 musta just been a bad knot
Can't you sneak into X tackle store with $20 and buy a spool of Seaguar Abrazx or Invizx without your wife knowing? The repercussions of a mad wife are minuscule compared to losing a fish because of bad line in my eyes.
No because she goes everywhere! I can't go run to the corner store with out her taging along she stalked me in hs drove to ft benning from ny to meet me soon as I got pass the women is like a d**n shadow even when I go fishing I know sooner or later ill see her truck pull in to check on me. Plus she checks the atm daily its pretty bad its all cuz she's insecure
Woah..........

Sounds like you should throw that one back.
Or save your change....she doesn't count your change, right?
Hey now, why does my picture keep showing up on Vanish bashing threads??
Yes, I use it in open water.................and heavy weeds.............and wood...............and rocks..............and just about everything. All but two rods have Vanish on them, and have for years
My personal best on 4 pound Vanish. Yeah, the line sucks.
Haha I can't throw her back I tried andc now with another son on the way makes it harder she does put up with my crap from time to time. No she doesn't count my change cuz I never have change we use plastic for everything

Man that sucks. Tell you what, it's not a full spool but I have some new, unused 20lb. P-Line CX Premium that I'll never use. It's a smaller diameter line and has alot less stretch than Vanish. I'll let you have it if you want it.
I use vanish for lots of applications. I only use a palomar knot for any line to lure knot. You definately have to spit on flouro and pull tag and main line tight at the same time. Make sure it is a simultaneous . It is very meticulous, but the most important part. I have 10 # on my cranking reel for clear to slightly stained unless fishing heavy cover, and then I go up from there. I have not had a bass break off with this application . I check my line every time I hit something . I really love trasition red. I swear it will hold well past the advertised weight if tied proper. I was fishin gaston a couple years ago and foul hooked a giant carp in the tail. We chased him for at least 20 mins I got him to the surface and the hook popped loose. He was at least 4 feet long. That was on 10# VANISH. I use 20 # trasition red for buzzbaits and spinnerbaits and for pitching . I have never had unusual breakage. I swear by it. I fish tidal rivers also where there are lots of barnacles . I have had more breakage issues with 50# braid. The most important part of any line to lure is the KNOT not the line. I have caught speckled trout and flounder. And dont forget about those mud-fish “Bowfin”. I can pulla tree down with my palomar knot and transition red ,NO LIE
Go to *** and print off the rebate for Berkley lines. Then order a couple rolls of Trilene 100% Pro Grade Fluorocarbon, it's good stuff.
I'm still using it I got a 34" northern on it yesterday it held threw all the timber and teeth I just retied as I do after every Pike and walleye.
i would recomend yozuri hybrid for your spinnerbait needs. AND at <$12 im sure you can hide the purchase from the ball and chain.

What Sam pointed out is super important with fluorocarbon lines. Even good flouro lines will snap if you burn them even a little bit. I think a person should spend about 10 seconds cinching down a fluoro knot and wet them until they're almost dripping with spit to reduce friction. I don't think I've had any break offs since I began tying knots more patiently like this, but I had plenty of them before.
