BPS Extreme Rods 2025

My fishing buddy is buying a Curado E. He is thinking of putting it on a BPS Extreme for spinnerbaits and small cranks. We own a boat together. Even though last year I bought a load of Daiwa gear on BR forum. Which we both use. He insists...........or the baitmonkey insists. Anyways, just wondering if yall had any input. Either on these rods or something else in that general price point.

buy a falcon, allstar or mojo... if your paying original price for the xtreme rod.... i have 2 of them and now i wish i would have bought something different!!! but they are okay, cause i got them on sale

I have a 7mh casting Extreme that I've had for about 5 years. I like it. I prefer some of my higher dollar rods, but when it's on sale I'd say it's very good rod for the money.
Burley, you've obviously never fished with either an Extreme, an Ugly Stik, or maybe neither. The sensitivity of those two series of rods aren't even in the same ballpark.

They are heavy for the retail price though. I have several and there o.k. for the $50 that I paid for them, I've never had any problems with them. But I would get an All-Star if I was spending $100.
If he's dead set on an Extreme tell him to look around on ebay these things are all over ebay these days.

Another of Burley's outlandish statements. I've actually used an ugly stick (as recent as last year) and have 2 extreme rods, and the difference between the extreme rod and the ugly stick is VERY large.
The extreme is a decent rod. It's on sale frequently so don't pay retail price.
It's obviously not going to be a top of the line rod, but it'll catch fish.

I've bought three Extremes in the past year and a half (still have two), and they're not too bad if you can get them on sale. I'd pass @ $100, but for $50-$70 they'd do fine for spinnerbaits. For cranks, however, I'd pass on the Extreme and pick up a BPS Crankin' Stick.

Ridiculous. True, they're not the most sensitive rods out there and kind of heavy, but I feel they're comparable to anything else in their price range...as long as we're talking about their sale price, not their retail price. They're fine for things like spinnerbaits and topwater lures, which don't require alot of sensitivity.
I've got a 6'8" ML Extreme 'Woo Daves' dropshot rod that fantastic for weightless Trickworms and Floaters, and well worth the $79 I paid for it.

Personally I wouldn't pay full price for one or any BPS rods but when on sale they are a great purchase...I have a 7'MH spinning rod that is great with my size 40 president. I have fished with a 7'MH BC and it was a good rod, not gonna be the best rod but good at sale price. They are a little heavy....If I were your buddy I'd look at other rods in the price range before dropping the money...on sale the Pro Qualifier is hard to beat...

For $50 and under not bad, but I would get a Mojo at $90. Or a falcon original trust me you'll notice a difference.

Ive got a ton of them and really like them. They are not the lightest or most sensitive but they are light enough and sensitive enough to fish whatever technique you want without being at a disadvantage.

This is, IMHO, the biggest problem with this forum and others like it. There are too many people with little to no actual experience with certain products recommending them to others as the best thing since sliced bread. :
I'm sure you're happy with your rods, but do us all a favor and try them out before you go recommending them to others.

I had one a few months ago that I got in a trade and I was wowed that BPS was trying to sale them for 100.00 they are VERY HEAVY!!!!! they would be a nice rod in the 50 dollar range but there not even close to a 100 dollar rod!!! if you want to spend 100.00 on a rod get a MOJO stick there ALOT better of rods! BPS rods are nice from the Pro/Q and up there new johnny morris sticks are pretty nice for a 200 dollar rod... but you cant find a lot better rod for 150.00 in the carrot stix!

Maybe so. But is it not possible that his comment about "trust me you'll notice a difference" was about the falcon original compared to the BPS extreme?
Another problem with forums, lots of guys that have been around for a long time getting overly annoyed with newer guys asking questions and making suggestions. Too many folks just sitting and waiting to call someone out.

and the comment about its like an ugly stick is silly the Extreme is a MUCH better rod! Im not saying there bad rods there just pretty heavy and when your used to fishing really light rods it will feel pretty bad to you! Before I sold mine I used it for a REALLY heavy cover rod with 65LB Powerpro it was a 7'6 H I used it when the cover was so heavy I was scared I would break one of my high end rods... I think they are unbreakable thats for sure! and you do get pretty good feel with them and the handle is SUPER comfortable once again only down fall and what makes them to me not a 100 dollar rod is the weight they are very tip heavy.. but if you put the XPS balance system on it you can change that EASY.. if you want some let me know what actions you are looking for my dad has a few that dont have much use at all he wants to sell for 35.00 each but I dont think he will ship them not totally sure tho... and the guy that said get the BPS crankin stix instead well if you think the extreme is heavy you surely dont want the crankin stix lol

After 30 years of fishing, I can feel a difference in a rod without fishing it. While I wasn't overly impressed with the Mojo series, it is worlds apart from an Extreme. That said, an Extreme is a fine rod at that price point. Yes I held both in the store, and compared them with a reel mounted.

I am not superman, but Extremes heavy? I must be missing something. I have 1-7' medium for cranks and 5-6'6" MH for plastics, topwaters, frogs, traps, silver buddies, jerkbaits and some cranks.
I fish 7 hour outings and the rods do not bother me at all and I don't miss bites. I know I am a lot older than you guys.
Rods are like anything else in that everyone has a preference, usually not associated with price. Ever fish with a Berkley Lightning - great rods for $35.00.

Not calling anybody out, and definitely not annoyed by folks asking questions. It's the new blood that keeps a site like this one running.
Maybe my post came off as being unnecessarily harsh, but I call 'em as I see 'em.
I was mod on a chopper forum (motorcycles, not helicopters) for several years and watched peoples' opinions become "fact" by others repeating what they had read. If you have no first-hand experience with a product, technique, location, etc., don't present your opinion as fact.
It's just that simple.

I can 100% agree with that. Sorry I took it the wrong way. I've just seen a few folks get unnecessarily aggravated at certain things.
That being said, back on topic, I've got a Medium action BPS Extreme spinnerbait rod. Like it very much. Are there better rods out there? Absolutely, but just like a bunch of BPS's stuff, it is really, really good for the price you pay, and on sale 75% of the time.

Over lunch I remembered I have a 6'8" med. action Extreme spinning rod, and I also happen to own a 6'8" med. action spinning Mojo (I know the original question is about casting rods). So I pulled the reels off & weighed them on a postal scale. Mojo 4 oz. Extreme 5.1 oz. But the ballance point on the Extreme seems to be slightly closer to the reel, so the weight difference isn't noticable when casting.
Between these two, I do prefer the action of the Mojo a little more, and the sensitivity is a wash for me. But I paid $60 for the Extreme & $90 for the Mojo.

One thing to note regarding BPS rods is that one should never pay full price for one of them.

I've noticed the same thing. I own both the BPS and Mojo in a 7'H and posted in another thread that the BPS Extreme rod balances much better than the Mojo. The Mojo is only a little over a 1/2 oz. lighter than BPS rod. Anyone who says that the BPS is soooooo heavy and then recommends a Mojo rod is just rattlin' off what they read. You'd never guess that the Mojo is lighter by handling both rods. I think someone would notice overall balance more so than they would a relatively small difference in weight. And IMO, the fact that the BPS rod balances that much better means more with most techniques than the negligible difference in sensitivity of the blank at that price point. Plus, the Extreme is a cheaper rod which I think makes it a better value. I like the for rods under $100.

i too own a bps extreme. i unfortunately bought it at full price. i got the 7' m spinning rod. i think its an awesome rod. good enough for what i use it for. light weight plastics. i know you said it was at 5.1 oz but then i added the weight balancing system and it felt much lighter. no one seemed to mention that. i have felt the carrot stick and thats a great rod too not sure the weight it feel lighter but its a once PEICE!!!! i think the extreme is the ONE of the best two peice rods for around 80 bucks on sale right now.

BPS's spring fishing sale ends Sunday. Not sure if the Extremes are on sale, but at least check out the KVD signature series. You can get one for about 60 bucks, and I love it!
