All Star Rods 2025

fishing user avatarBoett43 reply :

Dose anyone have any experience with this brand of rod?

fishing user avatarMuddy reply :

I have had a few. They are a well made rod, I just prefer Cabelas Fish Eagle II's and Fenwicks. I did a lot of experimenting, there is nothing bad to say about All Stars, just my prefences.

fishing user avatarJ Francho reply :

I have several that range from a couple to several years old.  They are a decent rod.  They are slowly getting replaced by some of the newer, lighter gear that is out now, but the ones I still have continue to serve me well.

fishing user avatarcart7t reply :

I fish nothing but All Stars.  From Titaniums, Platinums, TAS and Classics.  A great rod that has never let me down.

fishing user avatarMicro reply :

I have some Team All Star IM10s and American Classics.  They are great rods.  The American Classics are so close in weight and sensitivity to the IM10s that I think the AC is a better value.  They are super-tough, too.

fishing user avatarkikstand454 reply :

when you say im10 do you mean the asr series?  cuz ive had my eye on one of those and wonder how they are.............. :-?

fishing user avatarMicro reply :

No.  The Team All Star IM10 is a different rod and has been around for awhile.  The ASR is a new rod.  I don't have one but I've heard good things about them.  I've handled them in the store and seem excellent.

fishing user avatarKYntucky Warmouth reply :

I too have been looking into getting some all stars... Anyone have anything to say about the Big Boys

fishing user avatarkikstand454 reply :

the asr is callinng my name everytime i touch it. i need a c-rig pole. i love the feel and the reel seat.

dont know though if i should get a shimano compre for half the price though...............

fishing user avatarBoogey Man reply :

I have one, the Team Allstar 6'4" spinnerbait rod. It's about as good as any $100 dollar rod you'll find.

fishing user avatarSam reply :

Yes.

I took a chance and bought one this summer and I love it.

In fact, I am in the market for a crankbait rod and up there with Loomis, St. Croix and Shimano is the All Star.

I don't think you will be disappointed if you purhcase one.

Check out their web site for their various models and specs and get the one that best matches how you will fish it.  :)

fishing user avatarcart7t reply :

Bobby's has them as cheap as anyone.

http://bobbysfishinrods.com/page/1hhhv/Allstar_Asr_Rods.html

Classics for $75

TAS for $85

ASR's for $75

TAS BB's for $100

Platinums for $118.

Good guy to deal with.

Basically these are TAS rods with an extra bit of material added for strength.  These are heavy duty rods made for flippin, frogs, slop and any kind of fishing where you need great sensitivity but a rod with guts that won't break when you're hoisting a fish out of heavy cover.  These won't let you down.

fishing user avatarJoe Boss reply :

I have 2 of the All Star Select (Dick's exclusive) rods one spinning and 1 casting. I like the casting rod much more than the spinning rod.

Great rods for the price.

fishing user avatarfishfordollars reply :

I have seven. I did have the luxury of returning them to the manufacturing plant here in Houston any time I happen to break one. Just walk in the back door and ask Lonnie and it was done. That has changed since the buyout. I still prefer them, even though the return policy is now left up to the Academy store that it was purchased. It is still not a problem getting any issue resolved and I will continue to fish with them. I have abused them and they keep me fishing. Great rod, just be sure of the type you want. Carry a spooled reel with you to the store and mount it w8ith a lure to check it out before you buy. They are all different once you mount a reel. Good luck.

Very true. You should not have any problem fitting a Pflueger reel on an All Star rod but I have had a problem with other brands. My President fits like it was born to be on my All Star spinning rod but my Symetre doesn't sit as well. Seems to be loose in the reel seat.

fishing user avatarfishinfiend reply :

I have 4 allstar rods and I am very pleased with there performance and durability. If you have an Academy sports nearby, keep an eye on the sales paper as they run very nice sales on rods. My dad purchased a platinum for $99.

Was that pre or post Castaway?

fishing user avatarBigBrotherThunda reply :

I have two of the ASR's a 7'2 jig and frog rod which is SOOO hard to put down! I also have the 7'2 m action topwater and jerkbait rod, it feel great, almost seems to be made perfect for x-rap and pointers!

fishing user avatarslomoe reply :

I have an IM 10 and love it.  :)

fishing user avatarwasabi_VA reply :

I bought an All Star 'Select' from Dick's for around $50 and went back to buy another after using it a short while. Mine are the 5.5' Light action model and I really like them.

The 'Select' are specially made for Dick's so I imagine they are not from All Star's high end models.

fishing user avatarJ Francho reply :

They are basically rebadged Instincts.

fishing user avatarBirdNestBen reply :

I've got an Allstar Classic GT2 that is rated for 1/4 oz. to 1 1/2 oz. lures...... it's a great rod and cheap now....... back then think I paid $150 for the rod and have seen them for $49...... it's real sturdy and I can fish pretty much anything with it...... it really has taken a beating over the  years and keeps going strong......

I thought they were rebadged Classics. They handles on the Select are different than the Instinct shown here:

http://www.allstarrods.com/as_instinctspec.html

They look like the American Classic handle with the rubber butt cap shown here:

fishing user avatarJ Francho reply :

I think you could be right.  Either way, decent for the money.  Don't expect any comparison to something in the $100+ range.  They are a $50 rod, and I think that's all you should pay.

fishing user avatarBNKrust reply :

I have an IM10, ASR, and an Instinct and all have served me quite well. I really like the ASR and plan to buy a few more. For around $100, they're hard to beat. The only rod in that price range that I might rank higher would be the Falcon Lowrider, but it's negligible.

fishing user avatarfish-fighting-illini reply :

I had some similar questions a while back about Allstar rods. Cart7 ( who has a huge amount of fishing knowlege ) sent me a very informative message. He said I could pass it on to you. I hope he doesn't mind me posting it here for all.   FFI - AKA Matt Crum

Quote from Cart7

""""""First off, I have no knowledge of the Instinct series or the new ASR rods. From what I've read by those that have one on this forum, the ASR rods are pretty nice. They're IM10 blanks like the TAS series but also have split grips. They're supposedly amazingly light weight. I've never used a split grip rod before and am not sure I even want to though this rod line does intrigue me.

Now for the lineup I'm familiar with:

All Star American Classics - First off, don't let anyone tell you different. The new Classics are just as good as the old. I've fished with both and can't tell the difference. The rods are IM6 construction, are sensitive and amazingly lightweight. I still have 2 of these. A 6' med/fst I use for small cranks, small spinnerbaits and jerkbaits. The other a 7' mh I use for pitching. These sell for around $90 retail but you can get them at Bobby's rods and reels for around $75 each new. Great rods.

Team All Stars - These are probably their biggest sellers. IM10 construction. Durable. Honestly, weightwise, these rods are virtually the same weight as the Classics but more sensitive. I no longer have any of these but am looking for a TAS Big Boy for flippin. The big boy series are heavier duty rods in the TAS series made exclusively for pitching, flippin and froggin. These are great rods. Bobby's has the TAS rods at $85 each. $100 for the Big Boys. BPS and Cabela's sells them for around $99 - 109.

Platinum series - These are the top of the line. Keep your Loomis GlX's or Kistlers and their $300 price tags. These are the best bargain going for soft plastic fishing. I don't have Platinums per se. I'm using the old Titanium series. The only difference is Titanium guides vs non for the Platinum series. It's not a big deal. These rods are light, light like a GLX or Kistler and very, very sensitive. The last time we were at Washco, dink picked up one of my 7' Titanium worm rods and compared it to his St Croix Tournament Legend rod. He couldn't believe the All Star was so light weight. He was floored when I told him you can pick up new platinums for $115. BTW, these rods are tough as well. I know you've read the Loomis guys saying that if their blank gets a nick in it, it's a break waiting to happen. Well, I've got a 7' Titanium I use for C rigging. I've had it a few years and the big egg sinkers have beat that rod up pretty good. Everytime I set the hook I expect that rod to break and yet it just keeps on going.

Like I said, the cheapest place right now for All Stars is Bobbys. Classics - $75, TAS - $85, ASR series - $75, TAS Big Boys - $100, Platinums - $115. Shipping is like $18 and he can ship 3 rods at a time.""""""""

fishing user avatarFlywatersmallie reply :

I've been looking at trying one of these for some time, unfortunately the only retailer that carries them in my area is Dick's and they only have the Select there. If I am going to give these things a fair shake, I wanna hold a Platinum or ASR or even a TAS. Hard to buy a rod without having a real idea what you're getting. I'm in the middle of walleye country.... medium or medium light spinning rods as far as the eye can see, you really have to look for bass type stuff or have it special ordered. One of my local shops is good about ordering single rods so I can play with them first, if I dont buy them, to the rack they go but, they can't get All Star stuff either  >:)
