Good Crankbait Rod $100-$150. 2025

Tommorow I will be making a TW order and will be getting a new crankbait rod and need some good suggestions...it will need to handle 1/4-1oz baits and my price range is $100-$150.

I have a Veritas 1.0 "winch" crankbait rod that I was really positively surprised by. It casts great, it's light, and it's comfortable to throw all day. I've felt the new 2.0s and they feel really similar. Either way, for the $100 mark, it's a pretty killer stick. Normally, I don't like foam grips, but the Veritas is kind of an exception.

St. Croix Avid or Avid X maybe. G. Loomis GL2 also. Those all top off between 180 and 200.

To stay within your price range look at the St Croix Premiers, Mojo Bass, or Rage MHM models. They'll only handle down to 3/8 well, but in my experience you aren't going to find a rod that truly handles 1/4 all the way to 1 oz equally well.
St Croix also has the Rage on clearence in their bargain room for 89.
A bit above your range the St Croix Avid or Avid X in MHM would also be excellent. I'd also recommend a Kistler KLX Crank Rip Twitch model MH in your preferred length. I recently got the 6'9" model and am really happy with its quality and performance. It is less moderate then the St Croix's which for a lot of crankbaits I like, and I've tested it with top water as well which it handles well.
I have no experience with it but the Donyns crankbait rods always seem like popular choices and current feedback I've read on the new Fury 705cb is good as well.

What kind of crankbaits are you going to throw? The reason I ask is that a 3/8oz medium diver is great with a nice moderate action rod but a 3/8oz square bill would do better with a little bit faster rod and so knowing what kind of baits you like to throw will get you better results. I have a rod that I love for square bills down to a DT Flat 7 and I use some heavy square bills like the Xcalibur XCS 200 and 300 size which are 5/8oz and 3/4oz respectfully. I also love it for lipless cranks and the larger size 8 shad raps, it is the Fenwick HMG 7'2" M-MF, yep, it is a medium power with a moderate fast action and it has a lure rating of 3/8oz to 1oz but the length allows you to throw 1/4oz baits with no problem. For the same price there is the Tatula XT, now the thing is the graphite model is a medium power and only goes to 3/4oz while the model that goes to 1oz is a glass rod which may be considerable heavier than the graphite model. I think those 2 at the $100 price point are going to be solid contenders, the Tautla XT has the same blank with different components to get the price down so it should perform very well and I own the HMG and it is an awesome rod for just about every crank I use but shines on square bills down to 7' or 8' but I could probably use a DT-10 with no worries either.

Absolutely. I've had the 771MRB-G (glass) all season and it's been an incredible rod. It is tailor made for 1/2 oz cranks, but casts 1/4-3/4 equally well. I haven't thrown an ounce with it, but I think that would be well within its ability. The 721MHRB is rated up to an ounce, but I'm sure it can effectively handle more. Anytime I get a bite on mine I land the fish. There's just no coming unbuttoned from it. It's surprisingly light and sensitive for a composite rod, too, and you have to love those Tatula reel seats and handles. probably wind up with the med heavy too, just because it's that good.

Phenix XG S-Glass crankbait rods. I have the 7'9" and it's maybe my favorite rod to fish and the price is nice.

In your stated price range I have owned and used the gen 1. Abu Veritas winch rods (both the 7' M and 7'6" MH), and the St Croix Mojo 7' MH/Mod "cranking" rod. For my type of cranking..........ripping lipless baits or squarebills out of grass most of the time, with a little deep cranking on the side...........I didn't care for any of them, but of the ones I mentioned, I liked the Mojo better for fishing around grass, And the 7'6" MH Winch for deep cranking (it was still a little too wimpy for me and the baits I use...mostly SK 5xd's and 6xd's). My next deep cranking rod will be a custom built around a blank that will handle the XD's the way I want it to. As for ripping baits out of grass...........it's hard to beat a good ol M or MH powered rod with a fast action, and as bonus, you can use the fast action rods for other stuff too. If I had a lot of wood, rock, etc...to crank, I would get another cranking specific rod, but for the time being I don't, so........I won't.

TW has the Lucky Craft cranking rods for $99. That is a steal for those rods. I have used the 7'6" long cast and the 7' mini magic. They are beautiful sticks, and really perform well for cranking.

I use my flipping stick for deep cranks and it's awesome. It'll launch anything from 5/8 to 2 ounces. I just back my drag off. It's also great for pitching jigs and throwing c rigs.

The Magnesium is on sale right now at TW for $135 so that may be a good choice.

I have the 6'9" MH Crank Rop Twitch KLX and am very pleased with it so far. The action is perfect for what I wanted, not as moderate as my St Croix MHM, but still more moderate then a fast. I got it specifically for target casting cranks and top waters close to cover and it is an accurate easy casting rod.
Kistler just had a 25% off sale on their site. Keep an eye out there or sign up for their emails. Seems they run sales regularly.

I bought a 7'4" St Croix mojo bass crankster. Its a glass rod, it is just the perfect blend of sensitivity for cranking. I spooled 12 lb copolymer on it and it is my favorite cranking rod. It has so much leverage and gives such solid hook-sets. I couldn't be happier. Around the pre-spawn and spawn, I CRUSHED bass on this setup. Also I put a Revo SX on it, I would probably go with the STX if I could do it again.

I ended up getting a 7'1" med hvy tatula cranking rod to pair with my 6.3-1 tatula type R, I'm very impressed with the combo!
