After browsing my favorite outdoors store today, I have a question. What are yalls opinions on the Shimano Cumara? Are they worth the 220 as far as sensitvity and durability, or would a different brand be better? I bought a Powell while I was there and intend to fish it this afternoon. However im still curious about the Cumara.

I recently bought a 7'2"M-XF and was blown away by how light, balanced, and sensitive it was. The Cumara was a rod that was always in the back of my mind when choosing a new rod. After only fishing it a few times, it is easily at the top of my list.

Excellent rods... Light, sensitive and balanced with a great warranty. Comparable with other $200 rods that people worship.
But I also have a Powell Max and that is very nice rod as well especially since I got mine at cost.

They compare very well against the Dobyns Champion rods. Sensitivity is about the same, and they're all pretty well-balanced. If you're stuck between one of the two, it really comes down to looks.
If you want a JDM-style rod, get the Cumara.

That sums it up nicely. I bought a Champion to see what the fuss was about... Its a nice rod but didn't change my religion or anything. Last rod to make that sort of impression for me was the G Loomis BCR 803 GLX. The coolaid was strong with that one.

I recently bought 5 Cumaras. I like them alot! As far as durability goes? Time will tell. My favorite is the 7-2" the Med/Hvy Xtra fast. I have a 200E7 w/65# braid on it. Its an awesome stick. The 6-7" Med/Hvy Xfast is an incrdible crank baiting rod. You can feel a fish fart with it. The spinning rods are just as nice, however I would rather have seen a traditional reel seat instead of the ratcheting reel seat. I over tightened one and the grip parted. Shimano warranty and customer service is outstanding.

I now have 6 Cumaras and love them all. My favorite is the casting 6'8 MH Xfast. They are light, super sensitive and are backed by the best warranty on the market.
Watch out because if you buy one you will definetly buy more!!!!

I have 8 Cumaras that I fish right along side my Loomis. There's not a better value series in the upper end of rods.

i have 2 cumaras both on a patriarch xt the 7' 2 m/h fast wich i use for jig fishing and the 6'8 m/h fast that i use primarily for senkos but i have thrown swim jigs ,neko rigs, spinnerbaits ,texas rigs and more and they can do it all. Ive been waiting to get a rod to pair up with a 3rd patriarch xt i have been sitting on and the cumara is the only rod that comes to mind. they make a sick combo.

Durability...I got one for ya. I ran over two of my Cumaras in my front yard in a Ford F-350 4wd dually....two years ago. I ran over 12 rods and the Cumaras were the only to survive. A few others made it to the lake but broke on the first cast or fish. I have caught more fish than I can guesstimate on both including a 10.5 and a 10.75 in the last three months and quite a few in the 7-9 range. Yeah, I know that sounds nuts but it happened. I've been waiting for one of them to break but I don't think it's going to happen.
I don't think under-rated is the word...under-priced seems more appropriate. You have to go way up in the price range to equal or better them. There is no other rod in that price range that compares to the weight and sensitivity. When I restocked my rod box I had a price range of $300-$350 and ended up with a Cumara. Now I have five. They can be bought for less than $200-$220 if you do your homework. Buy it. You won't be disappointed.

i've bought dozens of rods the last few years, including g.loomis, powell, dobyns G1 and G2, abu's, zillions, etc. and the cumara 7'2" MH/F is my favorite of all. if i would've bought that one sooner, more of my rods would be cumaras.

I'm pretty much over it now. Luckily most of them were older $100-$120 Kistler, BPS, and All-Stars that wouldn't sell for much but still. It was another life lesson about patience. There was one positive thing that came from it...I now have a bunch Cumaras, a GLoomis, and tried out a couple of Dobyns rods.

Phil, I've got to say that I'd like to have a Cumara after reading this thread. I'd read they were good rods before, but for some reason I didn't think they were as good as everyone in this thread seems to think they are. I'm impressed!

I have several Cumaras and several Crucials and for the price you cannot beat these rods. The Cumara rods are just totally amazing, light, well balanced and very sensitive. My favorite is the 7' 2" MH/XF!

y'know, i was in the same boat...i had seen the cumaras at the tackle shop for years and bought every rod BUT the cumaras. they just didn't capture my imagination for some reason even though, when i first got back into fishing, i bought three of the shimano crucials and thought they were excellent. finally, last winter came and i was still sensing a hole in my lineup, i bought a cumara and after getting to fish it this spring, i'm finally almost completely happy.

Alot of people get lost in appearences sometimes, myself included. I just saw a plain jane black rod with a $240 price tag on it and thought nahhh. A friend mentioned them to me and said I really should give them a try. So, I did something I never do...ordered one online without ever touching it. When it got here the first thing I thought was Oh my God I'm about to lose $40 after I ship this thing back. I didn't like the glossy resin finish, like a gel-coat on a boat. Before, I always liked a raw graphite feeling blank because to me it seemed like rods with that finish were more sensitive. I was wrong. It only took about three cast in the front yard to realize what I was holding.
Like I said before, in my opinion, there isn't a rod in that retail price range that will touch it. What blows my mind even more is the fact that the last 3 I bought cost $185 a piece....shipped. Buy It Now or Best Offer can get you a really good deal sometimes. I love Cumaras so much that I won't even pick up a Cumulus in the store. I'm scared it will do the same thing to me the Cumara did...make me hate all my other rods.

Especially with the new jig and flipping models. I think that was a real hole in the lineup earlier.

Yeh, the 7-4 is a stellar rod for anything over 58 ounce.

I purchased the Shimano Cumara early last year. I paired it with the Shimano Curado 200e7, and fish plastics with it. The sensitivity is incredible, HOWEVER, I have been extremely disappointed with its durability as compared to several of my far less expensive rods. I had the rod about 3 months before I had to have the tip replaced. As we speak it is at the rod shop having one of the guides replaced. I expect more out of a $240 rod. Maybe I just got a lemon, who knows.

In all seriousness, you're the first guy that I've heard of having to have a guide or tip replaced that wasn't of their own fault.

The insert on the tip broke pulling in a fish and the third guide from the tip broke last week on a hookset. Like I said, maybe I just had a lemon? A few terribly rough rides over memorial day weekend could have contributed to the guide break, although all my other rods made the same rides. Never had a single problem with my Cumulus or Crucial Rods.
Im not poor mouthing Shimano, 3/4 of all rods/reels are Shimano...just have hit a few bumps with the Cumara.

I had a tip break off of my 7'2" spinning rod....when I rammed it into my ceiling like I was flounder gigging. Over the counter warrantied all I had to pay was shipping.

I've yet to get my hands on a Cumulus, thankfully. I've had a standing order for a 7-1 but it's never appeared. I'm hoping that they introduce more in the line this year.

I almost jumped on a Cumulus this winter. A store on ebay had them for $295 shipped but that was the only fishing gear they had and only had like 4 available. It seemed a little fishy to me so passed on it. If I got one it would be the 7'1" used as a jig/c-rig rod.

Im convinced. I believe I will pick one up sometime this week. From what yall have said they seem to be high quality at a decent price. Now to get shopping.
