Heres my dilemma, I want a quality reel. Originally I didn't want to break the bank, but I may have to. Unfortunately alot of the companies haven't produced Lefty versions of random models in their catalog in the 5:1 and lower ratios.
I.E: Lews BB1 available Lews BB1 pro not available, Curado I, not available. etc. etc.
So I've narrowed it down to a handful of reels. But before I mention them I do own a Chronarch 201E5 but I want 2 set ups. 1 for Shallow, squares and lipless, and 1 for DT 10s through 6XDs.
Rods are Dobyns 684CB (which has the 201E5) second is the Powell Endurance 725CB. I do have the option of running the 201E5 on the Powell and putting a 201E6 on the Dobyns. Just been worried the 6 would be too fast as I already hate slowing down my retrieve. Just want to do it right.
With that said, route #2, new reel.
2nd Chronarch 201E5
Lews BB1
Lews Tourney MG
Used Zillion Crazy Cranker
or Abu Revo Winch Gen3
EDIT* Daiwa makes the Lexa in lefty
Tackle tour did a shootout of crank reels and the Curado won. But not available in Lefty.
Anhy input to confuse me more is greatly appreciated lmao
From that list I would either pick the Chronarch or the Crazy Cranker, the difficult thing is trying to decide which one.

This is killing me! lol If only the made the newer Chronarchs and Curados in lefty in these gear ratios.... The Zillion is crazy expensive and cant find a used one, ever where shows it $269 msrp but places have it on sale for $300.
Antares 5.6:1 for $600 lol
Here´s another option, look for a used Curado 201B5, it´s a magnificent reel and you can find it for cheap, the few upgrades it needs are a metallic tension knob cap ( you purchase a Castaic tension knob cap ) and a set of carbontex drag pads.

There you go, 45 bucks !
BPS Pro Qualifier. Won't break the bank and is an awesome reel.
Thanks but only interested in the 6 above.
Used Calcutta TE GT in the 200 size. You won't regret it.
I am another vote for the Chronarch 201e. The crazy cranker would be good if you could find it for the right price. Only place the Chronarch may arguably have room for improvement is drag strength (not smoothness of drag) and I don't find a need for more than what the Chronarch can do when cranking!

Whats your opinion on upping my shallow crank/square/lipless set to 6:1 and throwing the 5 on the 10ft+

Personal opinion, I actually like a 6:1 or even a 7:1 for my squarebills/lipless baits/ baits diving less than 10ft. To me the 6:1 is most comfortable and I don't feel like I'm cranking too fast at all. Especially with lipless and the squarebills I sometimes throw them on 7:1 because I like them to be moving QUICK. Just my personal opinion based on the way that I sometimes fish. Please feel free to ask any other questions, happy to try to help.
When TT completed their review on the low speed reels in 02/10 one of the categories that went into the final score was price. All of these reels can now be had for a much lower price than that listed in the review. Go back look at the final review scores removing cost as one of the criteria, since it has no bearing on performance and do your own calculations, it may give you another idea or two.

Can't ever go wrong with another Chronarch.

There will be a new Zillion released at ICAST, prices on the Zillion are already being greatly reduced and will continue to fall. If you have ever wanted to own a Daiwa Zillion, now is a good time to buy.

Really good point if you can wait it out! I've never OWNED a zillion... I have used one quite a bit and they are a quality reel that will LAST. You have some good ideas right now, just wanna say whichever you choose I truly believe you'll be happy fishing any of them!
I use the BB1 Pro 6.4:1 lefty for my cranking and love it. The distance on this reel is crazy, but I completely understand that the market has a shortage for us in the 5 range. With that being said, that's why I chose the BB1 Pro. Haven't looked back..
IMO if you can stick with the Chronarchs, I would stick with them. I use a Lews TP in 6:1 on my Dobyns 705cb for shallow cranks and catch plenty of fish. If I feel like I need to slow down, I can. I'd rather slow down than speed up.
Thanks guys, appreciate all of the feedback. I think for now because I have them I'm gonna put the E6 on my Dobyns and E5 on the Powell, and wait for Icast results..... Still gonna grab a reel now that the bait monkey has finished strip teasing me.
Quick question on the Lews
Multi Stop Anti Reverse - Zero Anti Reverse. Which one is which? TT refers to one as Instant and other as zero. You would think zero means instant...
Since you already justifed a reason, may as well get one. I would wait to see how low those Zillions go (shouldn't be to long now), and search for a Chornarch D while you wait. That's one reel you won't regret the wait and leg work should you find one.
Tourney Saturday practice tomorrow. Put the E5 on the Powell, spooled it with 10# Red Label after my InvizX debacle. Only bringing 2 DT 10s in my day box, don't know how much cranking I'll be doing. Will report back tomorrow.
I would get either the bb1 or the chronarch you cant go wrong with either one. Personally i would stay away from any of the gen 3 revos after getting a gen 3 stx and it seems people have TONS of problems with all the gen 3 revos as well. But if you find a gen 2 winch thats a whole different story....

What is it that makes the technology "old"? I'm gonna guess one thing you mean is the weight?? I just bought a used 50th Zillion early this spring and have used it some but not a lot so far. I think it's one of those reels that could live on as it is for a long time. Solid performer that's going to take a lot to beat it down.
While I have a 201E5, I still throw plenty of cranks with my 201E6, though 6Xds get tossed on the E5 only.

No nothing negative at all, just what it is, old. The crazy cranker debuted with a $269 price tag and some point jumped to $319. Now you can get it on sale for $298 or Ebay for $280ish. Why pay that much for something old. When you can get same brand same quality new with a warranty for half the price. Zillions are amazing reels from what Ive heard, I just can't justify paying over retail for one.
Ran the 201E5 on the Powell, WOW hell of a rod! Ran the DT 10s exactly how I wanted. I think I'm sticking with this pair and throwing 201E6 on the Dobyns.
