Best All Around Jig/plastic/worm Rod 2025

fishing user avatarJWOA reply :

Hey guys long time since ive been on here...anyway looking to purchase a new rod and cant spend too much. I think the max is like 100-200 bucks just to give me some options. I would prefer the rod to be longer than 7' as I fish from the shore and from time to time I may have to cast 35-40 yards +. I  use a baitcasting rod...right now Im thinking about pairing it with a 7.1:1 gear ratio reel and 15lbs test flurocarbon. Let me know if have to change this set up. I get paid next thursday and the boss aka mama wants me to go fishing next saturday..so ordering anything is out the window. I have a couple of sports stores....like BPS or a smaller one like are Sports Center in Perry.

 Thanks  Guys

 Jay

Shimano Crucial ;)

I have a *** *** Black 7'1" MH/F rod that I am really liking for jigs and plastics. They make the same power/action in 7'3" as well as a H in that length. They retail around $120.

Is it the best rod in the $100-$200 price range? Probably not according to everyone, but it's the best rod that I own and quite a few people like them.

I not sure where i could pick one of those up locally

7'6" MH Veritas

NOT THE WENCH

fishing user avatarSwampLife reply :

Order from tackleware house , *** is one of the top rods in the hundred dollar range IMO.. If your budget is 100 to 200 I would meet close in the middle and go with a duckett micro magic for 160.. 20 year break it replace it warranty...

A lot of people will say different stuff so it's really up to you. I would try to feel the rods before you buy

You can also look at the 7 foot mh/f falcon BuCoo micro for 120.. I think it's called trap caster.. You can throw weightless baits to 3/4 oz jigs if you want..

fishing user avatarBlues19 reply :

I just got the 7'3" MH/F *** and I like it quite a bit. Gander Mountain has them and I think Cabelas might...

fishing user avatarJWOA reply :

LOL....I have this exact model because i thought i picked up a regualr veritas

You have the Wench? Do you like it? I've never used one but I've played with them both in the store.

I'm not saying I don't like the Wench just that I like the not that's not the Wench.

fishing user avatarJWOA reply :

Its alright if you use it for what its meant for...I really havent...I used it for plastics about a week ago kept missing fishing on my hook sets...sensitive though...but better for cranking which it was intended for

My #1 is a Falcon Cara micro finesse jig. I also have a Lamiglas Infinity Bass 735, which is awesome, but the Falcon is ichiban. I never leave with out it.

Such as?... (With a reputable source to back it up)

Not doubting you per se, I just have not seen anything like what you have, apparently.

Maybe you are being sarcastic and I'm not catching it?

fishing user avatarSwampLife reply :

The only thing I ever herd people say negative about the *** was the handle and the trigger..but that's rare to, I read a ton of reviews before I bought mine..

I did break mine the second time I used it but I just sent it back and they sent me a brand new one with hat and stickers.. The same hat you can buy off of TW.. The customer service was way better than average..

fishing user avatarCatt reply :

Excellent rod blank, warranty, & customer service

Poor workmanship & poor quality control; rod tips & eyes misaligned.

This web site for one plus the other big 3, 2 local tackle shops, 1 shop in Lafayette, 3 shops in Baton Rogue, & 1 shop in Beaumont TX.

Buy what y'all want but when I personally see 5-7 rods with poor workmanship I'm out.

fishing user avatarSwampLife reply :

I here ya man.. What shops in Baton Rouge are you talking about?

I have the WINCH version in Medium power. great for crankbaits. I have been looking for the 7'6" MH version as well for deep crankbaits.

My first *** was sent wo a tip. Whether it broke during transport or was never there Idk. Was replaced wo question. Second arrived intact but during my first outing the trim ring on the reel seat fell out of place. Didn't really change the way the rod worked but was rather annoying moving and clicking when I would cast. Again customer service was prompt and polite but I opted to fix it myself with glue rather than ship and wait.

Anyway, I agree with what you said; nice rod, good customer service but quality control might not be as good as you'd find elsewhere.

fishing user avatarchris55552 reply :

Purchased a 7' MH Duckett Micro Magic last week and I really like it, balanced, sensitive feels great and allows me to cast much farther than before!!

fishing user avatarkschultz76 reply :

I haven't had any personal experience with them, but have read good reviews on the Daiwa Tatula rods. I think there was a write up on one of them on the TackleTour site. Also I see them on BPS's website so if you have one near by like you said you could hopefully check one out in person. Looks like there is a 7'1" and 6'10" that both would be good all purpose jig n worm rods.

The St Croix Avids are another proven and popular choice in your price range, and available at BPS. Again if you search reviews there's lots of positive reviews as well as an older review on the TackleTour site, it was during their Creature Fever reviews. I enjoy all my Croix rods including my Avid.

You've gotten some great input on other options as well. Good luck.

I have to second the Tatula suggestions. I have two of the 7'1 MH XF rods and I love them. One is for texas rig and jigs, and the other is for carolina rig. Now, I will admit I have not used many other rods in that price range to compare it to, but I have noticed the Tatula to be extremely sensitive. I also love the ergonomics of it.

I do not have any experiance with the Shimano Crucial, but I have used the Clarus and the Compre line of rods that Shimano puts out. If I were to go back before I settled on the Tatula knowing what I do now, I would have looked into the Crucial as well. I doubt you would go wrong with either.

fishing user avatarPoolshark reply :

I like the st croix avid for that price. I've owned a few for a long time and have been pleased with them. I'm in the process of upgrading now and am having a hard time thinking about parting with them. Good warranty as well.
