Many of the components for this build were on back order. Also the Megabass slantbridge handle took almost 6 months to source. They are rare as it is, so finding a 'donor' was honestly just a stroke of luck. I set out to build this rod as Megabass perhaps would have, had it done a joint venture with GLoomis. For me the rod came out exactly as I wanted. It will be the rod I use most.
I can't wait to give this rod a work out in a couple months.
Robert, I was not a fan of the color scheme of the swimbait combo, but dude, this is one AWESOME looking rod. You and the builder did a fantastic job.
I have a few questions. What is the point of the slant bridge handle? How are they connected to the rod? What are they made of?
Saweet!!!
That is no rod! That is a pimp wond!!!
wow it looks sweet. Mind listing the components and how much did it set you back?
mmmm....fishing porn..
Sweet looking rod.

The SB handle allows the butt section to conform to your forearm. Makes the rod much more comfortable, and it just looks cool. Megabass has a patent on it. The metal section is made out of titanium, so it's super light. It actually connects directly to the blank fore and aft the slant bridge. I'm going to venture to say that outside of Megabass, this is probably the only custome build that has used a donor SB piece.
ahhh, gotcha. So there is a piece of blank in the back part? Is that carbon fiber on yours?
Sweet! That is one beautiful bar. And the fishing rod looks great too. ;D
SHWEET!

The GLoomis GLX BCR 893 is my absolute favorite rod. However I was never happy with the looks of the rod, pretty plain looking when it sits next to my JDM rods. Since Loomis never sold the blank, I sent the rod to Matt and had him strip the rod down to the blank and rebuild it from there. He took it down to the bare carbon. The rod retails for $400.
The butt section is from a Megabass F7-76 RDti White Python. They only make so many of these rods a year, and most are sold before they are made. These rods are availabe in the US from 2 sources, and they never have any in stock. Getting them from Japan is much easier. Since Megabass doesnt sell rod components, especially it's coveted Slant Bridge, if you want to build a rod like this you need to get the entire rod. The retail price of the White Python is $625.
The guide set I used was gold cermet with titanium frames.
All other components including reel seat, woven carbon sleeve and winding checks are from Matagi Japan. The color change paint was supplied by Matt Davis, the rod builder.
At this point I honestly dont know what the final cost was, as I gathered components as they were made available. Definitely my favorite rod now, as the horny toad is also my favorite lure to throw.

This has got to be one of the most expensive rod I have ever seen. ;D
So what did you do w/ the white python rod after you took the handle off? Are you going to have the rod rebuild as well?
The guides look really interesting. Probably my favorite thing on the rod because it blends in so well w/ the blank. How are they compare to the fuji SIC guides? Are they much lighter and/or much more abrasion resistant?
stunning!!! I'd love to check it out and grab a few drinks from your "restaurant" bar!!!
well done, sir.

I got lucky with the White Python handle. A friend had a rod break and sent me the handle since there is no warranty from Megabass.
The cermet guides are the best guides available. Harder and more abrasion resistant than SIC.

There is never a last call at the R Bar. ;D
just booked a ticket...see you in 6 hours. have the scotch and my new rod ready!
Man that is nice. So here goes. I'll give you a Quantum PT, $30 cash and some Pizza Hut coupons. Pleeeeeeeease.
Seriously, that is nice. Well done.
Stunning - someday you have to lay out your gear for a glamour shot and post it .... you just teased us on that tackle thread a while back... ;D
Congrats Robert.
Definitely an heirloom quality piece to be proud of. Again, congrats.
Robert, Im glad that Matt finally finished your rod so he can concentrate on mine (whenever my blank arrives from NFC). Cant wait to get it and post some pics.
I very happy to see you have a Steez riding on that custom stick!
NICE setup, thanks for sharing.
If the fish get a look at that combo, they will probably just start giving themselves up and jump in your boat!

lol, that is great.
seriously, amazing rod!
sweet rod but I thought the bcr893 was primarily a senko rod? It also works well for horny toads ? I got one recently but have only thrown senkos with it. Of course mine doesnt look nearly as high tech as yours. Sure wish loomis would add more style to thier rods.
Awesome rod...thanks for sharing!
WOW!
Absolutely amazing RLR!! Matt is an amazing builder!
Hmmm...I have a GLX BCR893 with a Steez on it, but for some reason yours looks different than mine and I can't put my finger on what it is...Ah, I got it. You have cork handles on your reel. That would have bothered me all day if I didn't figure out what was different.
(By the way, what an AMAZING combo! Nice work.)
That's very nice, Robert. Would you be interested in selling the shipping tube?

Thanks Rob,
The shipping tube is nothing more than a pvc tube.
Glad it turned out so nice!! I pray that you never have to warranty that blank.
Awesome rod! And awesome stash of booze in the background!

It wouldnt even be a warranty issue. There's no way this rod could ever be rebuilt, I'd have to pretty much start all over again.
Can't wait to try it out in a couple months!
I sure hope you insure your gear. I have a lot of high end gear but not like you & I have a rider That covers it anywhere. You just never know.
dude....that is SEXY
