Hey everyone,
I caught this bass today from the shore of a nice little pond, but I didnt have my scale. What's the poundage you think? It hit my lipless crank like a rock, and it certainly felt bigger than it looks.
Over a lb.
big enough to have one of these:
how did that Berkley rod handle the fish?

;D
First, Welcome!
We get this a lot: How big -from a photo. So don't mind some of the terse comments.
OK, I'll play...
I'm guessing in the 3lb range.
Definitely worth having a decent scale.
How do you like your new rod? Berkley?
Hey thanks! The berkley rod is actually really nice, plus I use it for everything from senkos to cranks to topwater.

that is a nice fish. if those Berkley rods said anything other than Berkley theyd fly off the shelfs. they feel like a million bucks.
definitely agreed
I'd guess around 3 also.
Is that a Curado on your Berkley rod?
This is almost 5:

They all pretty much look the same. Moral of the story is you can't tell from a picture.

Yes it is, love that thing, you have one urself?
Yessir, an E7. You have good taste. Mines on an ugly orange Carrot Stix.

I was looking at the E21 carrot stix at Cabela's yesterday, how are those rods?
I absolutely love mine. I have the 6'9" MHF and the 6'9" Parabolic. It's like as heck and feels awesome with an E7 palmed.
Its one of those topics that shows up about once a month and gets locked because people argue about them. If you do a search you'll find a lot of info.
Id have to say about two pounds. And I see someone beat me to the question about your rod. I also have a lightning shock, I love mine. Broke in in quite well this summer and I don't believe I've miss a fish on it yet.
Hard to say but I would guess 2 lbs. or so.

Yeah I love my berkley rod too, even when fishing senkos I can feel everything.
Nice fish! I also have a shock and I think if it didnt have the name lighting rod on it, it would be more popular.

Hey thanks! A lot of guys have been saying that about the berkley, and i agree
Going by the rod scale I'd go with close to 3lb.
QuoteOver a lb.
X2
Nice fish. I would guess 3-ish. Definitely look at a small scale. I got one and the first thing I learned from it, I was absolutely horrible and sight judging a fishes weight. I would be WAY off every single time. I have gotten better with the scale teaching me but I had to laugh when I got it. cause I would pull a fish up (especially a LMB) and thanks to the fight it gave me, i would estimate its weight out and be completely off.
Ditto on the rod. I am in the process of specing out a new combo to put together. I have to keep to a modest budget but rods in particular, I am bein gpicky about.
ID say 3-3.5 lbs, Nice fish!
I am amazed that this thread made it this far without any "witch trials" over laying the fish on the ground. :
Nevermind that though .Welcome to the board. I understand your excitement over catching one of your first nice fish. Hard to tell from a picture but I think 2.5 - 3lbs. If your really pressed and don't have a scale yet then take a piece of line and measure the length and girth.

When I posted the pic I wasnt sure if someone would comment on the fact that the fish was on the ground haha

It's really a crank bait rod , too wimpy for plastics.

Looks like a 2-3 lber.

Nice catch by the way. And I would guess in the 3# range??

ive found that it handles full bodied tubes like the kinami palm trees and GYCB fat ikas pretty well. would i have more success with a better rod? probably, but for now i like it
I really didn't say it was a bad rod , it's actually a pretty good rod for the price but it was made for cranks . Sorry you took it the wrong way.[/quote
no my fault, no worries
