Answer: Pretty sure 4 ft is the smallest size you can get a cast net. This model is not heavier or lighter than other brands. They are all pretty similar. The only issue I had with this version is that the rope attached to it is way longer than needed for most situations. I cut mine shorter so that it was easier for the kids to use.

I'm glad I pulled the trigger the longer rope is a plus it allows you to get some distance at the same time it opens up very well compared to some of the ones I have bought In the past wish they had a 5' in this size but I settled for the 4' still a great product

Well constructed cast net. Easy to throw, uniform netting. The plastic container it arrived in us a bit too small and it’s almost impossible to put the net back in it, so doesn’t really work for storage, but it works as it should. Very pleased.

After reading all the reviews, I took a chance.. Net is as advertised (Haven't put it on a Scale) But only issue after using the Net is Not enough Lead weight on the Net to open correctly or sink fast in the Water. Net will open all the way but you have to throw it harder than you normally would. Sinks super slow. Not my first Net had many others. For the price I guess it's alright But seem to be missing a lot of Bait Fish

Im really happy with this product, and it works great! It packs up nicely, and the material is pretty durable. Great for the price, and super effective for catching bait fish. The only problem i had was throwing it comfortably. It seemed very heavy, and bulky, but i guess i need more practice. The strap fits on your hand nicely and works great to secure it to your wrist. Definitely a great value for money!

This is my second net. The first one I got was good, but this one is more better. The box which comes with the net is so good, I really like it. I tried it yesterday, I got a lot of shrimps and one flounder. That really surprised me.

Price of the net is reasonable. Good quality net. The product is very durable i got it and went to the pier and wanted to go fishing off a pier and need bait .do i use it is to go the beach in the morning and look for schools fish and catch tons of bait. I was using it primarily in shallow water. Casting net works well.

Had an 8 feet cast net and it was too big and heavy to cast by the beach. This 6 feet one is much easier to toss without needing me to have part of the net on my shoulder.
If you are intermediate thrower 6 feet is good size and the net and weights are made very well in a small plastic container.
If you are a beginner and I recommend going even smaller, 4 feet and down.
Do check your state law because every state is different. Here in California no cast net in freshwater, in salt water only north of Pt. Conception (50 miles west of Santa Barbara) and only bait fish, if you accidently caught any game fish you need to release.

Finally got a chance to use this cast net. We took a weekend camping trip to the Gulf coast. I tried using the net, but couldn't get a good throw. Then, I saw some local guys using one just like it and watched them in action. They spun in a complete circle before releasing the net and it hit the water in a nice, round circle every time. I tried it myself and my body wouldn't cooperate. I'm 60 and have occasional balance issues. My brother was able to achieve good casts though. The net seems to be well made, and I'm happy with it. The plastic storage box it came in was another matter. I appears to be a "one and done" item. The cheap handle isn't made to hold up to the weight of the net and broke off before I ever removed the net. The net is also like some tents in that I couldn't get it to fold up like it originally was to fit back in the box. Other than than, the net is a great item for use in catching bait.
