This 54.5 inch long spear is designed specifically for surface fishing. This modern design on a primitive weapon features all corrosive resistant materials and weighs in at just 2.8 pounds. The stainless steel front weight enhances accuracy and penetration. The 40 inch anodized aluminum handle is sealed to prevent water displacement and keep the weight forward stabilized. Threaded assembly allows for easy parts replacement and additional pole handle extension. The 10 inch hardened stainless shaft is strong, durable and replaceable and features the NEW 3 barb Turbo Point from RPM Bowfishing with quick 3-twist fish removal. Use as a primary fishing device, as a vertical gaff or gig, or as a quick backup to help land those big fish. Also included is a 20 foot reflective 550 pound paracord retrieval line, a 1 inch wide adjustable strap for line storage and a reusable point protector by Limbsaver.

i have a 6mm threaded tip to attach - will that work or do I need a 6mm to 8mm adapter 6

Answer: The threaded shaft is standard, not metric. The stud to attach the point is 1/4-28 2A R.H. thread.

Can this be used for frog gigging?

Answer: Although you could try it, I don't think this would be your best bet for frog gigging. The overall length is about 54 inches and it uses a single point with mechanical barbs. Usually something with a longer pole handle and a gig head with multiple prongs would be ideal for frogs. These attachments may be available in the future for The GILL-ATINE but not yet.

how is this spear released from the fish?

Answer: Just twist the body of the point counterclockwise approximately 3 times to allow the barbs to fold forward. Then pull the spear out.

Answer: Push it all the way through till the tip comes out then unscrew the tip and slip the harpoon back out.

How is the weight forward balance for throwing into a shallow are < 6 feet?

Answer: The solid stainless steel front weight is 6 inches long in total with 4.5 inches of it being inside the aluminum pole handle. That plus the stainless shaft and point provide plenty of forward weight balance. The spear does not require much force to penetrate in shallow water.

Went through a 50lb Mahi just fine first time I used it but the barbs bent back the other way and it pulled right back out...would have lost the fish if I didn’t have a backup gaff
