The design of the mesh does not allow it to open fully. I tried a few casts in my yard and thought I lost my touch. Then tried to lay it out on the ground fully opened. That's when I realized the problem. The mesh design is acting like a bungee cord and contracting the lead lines back to the center. It is impossible to get the net to open fully. I returned it and get a Lee's Humpback net. It opened fully just fine. I hope this helps.

I use heavy 1.5 lb. per foot nets for getting deep open water baits in over +20 depths when the bait runs deep due to water conditions, but this
net is not for that purpose, the material needs to be soaked first in fabric softner and water in 5 gallon bucket for over one day, rinse it off and
it supple. This net is for shallow water bait near the surface, do not throw this net near structure like rocks, timber, stained water which
you cannot see obstructions. This net is perfect for practicing since it is not heavy and the weights are not lead, which makes it faster to "load"
when baits close to you and fast moving. Most people will not spend over $50 on a cast net and these people end up not being successful
most of the time when they go fishing, plus if they are not willing to spend that type of money on a cast net then they will not put in the same effort
to keep the bait alive. My advice about fishermen, the guy who has the "Wow" cast net usually is the one you would want to go fishing with.

This is not a $300 cast net... However, for the money spent it is a fantastic product. Purchased as a gift for a female friend that wanted to learn how to through a cast net. With a little bit of instruction and a few practice throws on land: She caught a grunt and a mangrove snapper on the first throw (both were released). Pretty impressive.

I started with a small, inexpensive cast net. It worked ok but holes developed after a couple months of use. This net is larger, with heavier weights and aginer mesh. It is easier to toss than the smaller net, sinks faster and captures more of the smaller freshwater baitfish that used to slip through the mesh.
