Questions about Presto 06300 Dehydro Electric Food Dehydrator, Standard
Q:
is this model bpa free
Answer: I have also called customer to ask for updates. They mentioned that the lens and another internal unit is not BPA free, both of which have no contact with the food. But the customer service person also said she does not have detailed information if or not the “center/ core that heats up and moves warm air “ is BPA free. She only said there was an internal part that is not BPA free, but it does not contact food and so maybe it is not in the heating part (??). That was all she could give.
Answer:
Answer:
Answer: BPA, is a synthetic estrogen that was accidentally discovered, just because plastic is BPA free doesn't mean that it doesn't have other synthetic estrogens in it that we don't know about.... plastic...... can't just remove something without replacing it with something else
Answer: I went online and found out that this model DOES have trays with BPA. I am returning it.
Answer: nowhere on the box or the manual does it say it is bpa free, if it were it would say so so i'm pretty sure it is not bpa free
Answer: Yes - it's even listed on eco-friendlycookware.com.
Q:
About how much dried fruit do you get from the 4 trays?
Answer: It depends on what your drying. For example, 2 medium apples on 1 tray = 3 cups, 2 sliced Kiwis on 1 tray = 1 cup. Did this help? If not, feel free to ask me more questions.
Answer: 4 trays full
Answer: I haven't actually dried any fruit yet with mine, but I did make a decent amount of jerky. I did see that you can add extra trays to this set if you want as we'll as the trays used for making fruit leathers. I'm pretty happy with mine so far
Answer: Depends on the fruit.
Q:
Can you make dried chicken jerky with this model? I want to make treats for my dogs without adding any spices or preservatives.
Answer: I slice organic chicken breast and put a slice of banana, my dog loves it. Chicken hearts, $160, about 80 pieces, nice treat and cheap!!!!
Answer: Yes you can! After several experiences with "recalled" chicken jerky from China, I decided to make my own. That was the main purpose of this purchase. My dogs love, love, love the homemade!
Answer: I own this dehydrator and in the description on the "front" page of the item it states that it's preset at 165 degrees. I loved it so much that I also purchased the Presto 6301 which has temperature settings. I like the 6301 for drying fruits and vegetables as they only need 135-145 temp to dry.
Answer: Make sure your chicken gets to 160 degrees. This machine has no temperature gauge.
Answer: Yes I suppose as per the booklet provided by the manufacturer. I did not try it so far.
Q:
Does this come with a recipe book? Where is a good place to get recipes?
Answer: The ABSOLUTE SAFEST BEST MOST RELIABLE place to get recipes is a University that has a Master Food Preserver & Master Gardener programs!!! Facts only. Safety first! Not oven canning ☠️ remember botulism if you can't smell it taste it or see it but it can still KILL you . Best to always get recipes from a reliable source!
Answer: It does come with recipe book, and the best place I think would be Pinterest :-)
Answer: Youtube has a million videos for dehydrator recipes and tips, and you might check out your library. mine had 3 ebooks and 4 paper ones on dehydrator related subjects.
Q:
It's not too loud?
Answer: I thought it was loud enough to irritate me. We have an open floor plan so it's not like I could run it in the kitchen and go in the living room. I put it in the bedroom and that helped but made the bedroom hot. I'm returning it. Also I paid $43.99 three weeks ago so I guess $33.99 is a good price if you have some place to put it that you don't have to hear it all day.
Answer: It is not quiet. Whether it is too loud is a personal call.
Answer: It is a little loud but it is not distracting.
Answer: It is some what loud, but after a minute you wont even notice it.
Answer: It is some what loud, but after a minute you wont even notice it.
Answer: No I don't think it is loud- a quiet hum. We've been quite pleased with it thus far!
Q:
Has anyone used it to make sweet potato chips? How are they?
Answer: I just made sweet potato chips yesterday. I sliced them as thinly as I could, rubbed olive oil on them, and sprinkled some with sea salt and some with cinnamon. I dried them for about 11 hours, I think. They're pretty good, but I think that if I could have gotten them thinner they might have been better. They're very crunchy, but "hard" crunchy. This might be the norm for sweet potato chips, as packaged ones I've had are certainly harder than potato chips. I'm going to look for suggestions for better results, but I think this was a successful first try.
Answer: I've made sweet potato and apple chips and they were incredible!
Q:
Would this work for drying mushrooms for storage?
Answer:
Answer:
Answer: Absolutely. I’ve dehydrated mushrooms and lots more. It’s a great machine. I don’t throw anything away anymore. When I cut up my lemons, limes and oranges I dehydrate the skins too.
Answer: Yes. You need to ensure that your fungus is cracker dry before you store them in an air tight container. Any moisture may lead to mold and spoiling. Not sure why you'd be storing mushrooms.... But portabella chips might be a nice garnish for salads... ;)
Answer: I haven't tried mushrooms, but I would think it would dry them just fine.
Answer: I haven't dried anything but jerky with mine as of now, but the instruction book says you can dry herbs with it so my guess would be you can.
Q:
Has anyone ever made kale chips with this machine?
Answer: yes but it doesn't take very long...they dry out quickly
Answer: I make them often. They come out great - I use this instead of my oven, because my oven burns them, no matter what temp I use! They come out great with this.
Q:
has anyone used this dehydrator for drying herb? if so, did you like the results?
Answer: i have been very happy with it drying every thing under the sun
Answer: Ummm, the grammar of your question leads me to believe you are speaking of non traditional "herb". This would not be for that purpose. Too much heat. This has a heating element. Old fashioned upside down on a line is the way to go with herb of the non traditional sort. ????
Answer: Yes that and chili peppers is the reason I bought it. The herbs and peppers had good results.
Answer: I am very happy with this product. ive never had one before and this dries everything i put in it. I make dog treats, and ive had vegetables, fruits, meats, and parsley in it. all turned out great. love it!
Q:
Does this dehydrator apply heat to the fruit? If so, can the heat be turned off?
Answer:
Answer:
Answer: It only has one heat setting and you can't turn just the heat off. It doesn't get super hot though, even after leaving it on for many hours i can still pop the top off or directly just take the trays off the base without burning or hurting myself.
Answer: The heat is not adjustable nor can it be turned off
Q:
Has anyone tried to dry seeded long hot peppers?
Answer: I have dried ( very successfully) whole small , Thai hot peppers. I put them in a plastic container in the freezer. This way they stay intact, I crush them when I use them. They keep forever!
Q:
I am having issues with the edges of the fruit (or tomatoes) getting crisp before the center becomes dry. They are even and 1/4". Is it too hot?
Answer: Things always dry for me from the edges inward. That is why in the instructions it tells you to put all of the fruit (or vegetables) into an airtight container to sit for a few hours or overnight so the moisture can redistribute.
Q:
Can you dry foods without using heat element but just the fan?
Answer: No
Answer: No
Answer: No
Answer: Yes
Q:
Must you partially cook what you are drying? Meat etc?
Answer: Just bought this dehydrator and trying petite sirloin sliced thin that I Mari armed over night. Booklet says yo pre or post cook meat in oven . Not sure if this is necessary. Temp needs to be 165 to be safe. Some say temp reaches 165, others say 145. What the truth?
Answer:
Answer:
Answer: So far, I used it to dry bitter melon. It only took 3 to 4 hours for 4 trays. Meat, not yet.
Answer: Depends what you're making and the quality of your meat. The instruction booklet does say that you should put your jerky in the oven for 10 mins or so after dehydrating to ensure safety. I always do that as a precaution when I'm making chicken jerky for the dogs.
Answer: No.. I do beef jerky all the time..I marinate the meat over night..You just need to make sure your meat is sliced really thin
Answer: I have been drying herbs and different fruit I haven't dried any meat
Answer: I have not precooked anything just marinate well I do over night then adjust your times
Q:
do i have to buy solid trays sepreratly to dehydrate flours?
Answer: I don't think so. I can't think any flowers so tiny that they would fall through the spaces. The solid trays are for doing fruit leathers where you are pouring a thick liquid out. I haven't tried flowers but my herbs do very well on provided trays
Answer: Hi Sadiq, you would need to get a mesh lining for your trays so your flour won't seep through.
Answer: You can also use parchment paper
Q:
I want to make sweet dehydrated potato chips to replace crackers. Crackers and taco shells are the last processed food to go! I would welcome advice
Answer: I've never done potatoes, but I have done bananas and they are pretty tasty. I just browsed the internet, and if you really want the dehydrated sweet potatoes, there are recipes online that just require an oven and twelve hours of cooking at around 145 degrees. As for taco shells...you can make your own and then just cook them in oil in a pan. Not that healthy, but it's not processed! Good luck with your cooking! A dehydrator is definitely a lot of fun if you like to make dehydrated fruits or beef jerky :)
Answer: You can do potatoes. Here is a site that gives info on how to do it. http://www.livestrong.com/article/540953-how-to-make-crispy-potatoes-in-a-food-dehydrator/ They sound pretty good. I might give it a try. Probably would be able to do sweet potatoes the same way.
Answer: never tried it but sweet potatos are cheap enough to try one out.i am going to try the sweet potato my self but make a tea out of it with parsley.
Answer: I say give it a try.
Q:
My other question is about the herbs you can and cannot dry. How much does it matter to dry basil, for ex.?
Q:
kale chips
Q:
What is the temperature of the heating element/fan?
Answer:
Answer:
Answer: Using a meat thermometer, I got a reading of 155 degrees Fahrenheit. So I would imagine the temperature is between 150-160 degrees, which is about on par with the highest temp reachable with a comparable nesco unit I use.
Q:
I really can't find out how to store the dried fruits and how long they last. Refrigerated? Vacuum sealed? Thanks 4 help.
Answer: We store ours in a tightly sealed bowl. We have had apples for several weeks, cherries for over a month. I never store them in the fridge or a plastic bag, I'm sure vacuum sealed would last even longer though. Hope this helps. :)
Answer: http://nchfp.uga.edu/how/dry/pack_store.html
Answer: I'm not sure myself. I just put them in a zip lock bag on the counter. They're usually eaten within a few days. It takes a lot of fruit & time just to fill one storage bag (quart size).
Answer: I vac seal mine in canning jars. Works great!
Q:
What temperature is it set at?
Answer: No temperature setting. You just plug it in and go by estimated times on what you are dehydrating. I love this dehydrator. It is easy to use and clean up. It makes the best beef jerky.
Answer: There is no temperature setting. You just plug it in. The fan and heat both start up. It dries much faster that the dehydrator I had before that didn't have a fan. I get sweet yam chips for my dogs in an hour and a half. On my old machine it took 6-8 hours. It takes up less height for storage when you stack the trays properly. I highly recommend this dehydrator!
Answer: The 06300 dehydrator is preset to 165 degrees. If there are any questions, do not hesitate to contact our Customer Service Department Monday-Friday 8:00-4:15 Central Time at 1-800-877-0441 or contact1@gopresto.com.
Answer: 135-145 degrees Fahrenheit, self regulated.
Q:
can you dehydrate kale?
Answer: Oh, yes! It's by far the best way to make kale chips - and you don't have to add a lot of fat. I toss the kale in a mixture of water, a little olive oil (a tsp or two) and some seasoning (salt, pepper, garlic powder, nutritional yeast - it tastes like cheese), then lay it out on the trays. It can't burn because the temp isn't above 130 or so, unlike an oven - it just gets super crispy. My 11 year-old inhales it. So good.
Answer: You can dehydrate anything. Even human flesh. ;-)
Answer: Sure, if you hate life.
Q:
Does anyone use this to dehydrate bean and grain sprouts?
Answer: I have had 2 of these and can stack my trays really high so I have tried sprouts. If you can put them higher and put them on parchment paper so they won't fall through, you can. They do turn dark and are super tiny, though.
Answer: I have not tried those but have done cucumbers onion and green onion. It has done great on these. I do t see why it wouldn't do well on sprouts.
Answer: I sure haven't. I've only dried meat and it turned out great.
Answer: thinnest was kale and thats wafer thin blow on the kale and its falls apart...but, aloha and good luck
Q:
I would like to dry home-grown figs and plums. Can I dry 2" diameter fruit whole in the Presto 06300 Dehydro Electric Food Dehydrator?
Answer: I don't think you would be able to. Drying trays, when stacked,
Answer: no mine only has a 1 in tray hight
Q:
does it come with everything you need to get started?
Answer: Everything besides meat and spices. It does come with recipes and tips in the instructions though.
Answer: I would say that depends on what you are wanting to use it for. I needed it to dry plants, so it had every thing I needed. If you want to make fruit roleups then you will need to buy one of those cheap fruit roleup trays. You may also wish to buy spices for jerky.
Answer: Yes. It comes with the base unit, 4 dryer trays, clear cover and an instruction booklet.
Answer: It only has the racks if you want to make fruit leathers or what ever you have to buy extra accoutriments. Mine only lasted 2 months then burned out.
Answer: Yes, but I was only doing herbs and cayenne peppers. I didn't intend to do jerky or fruit rolls at this time.
Answer: Definitely get the mesh screens. I'm getting ready to order more. They make clean up so much easier.

Q:
Is it safe to run the Presto 06300 Dehydrator overnight?
Answer: Provided that you have it on a heat resistant surface, everything flammable away from it, and don't have children or pets running about that could mess with it, yes. It's *technically* against manufacturer recommendations, as they're supposed to insist that you constantly monitor anything that produces heat for liability reasons, so do so at your own risk, and make sure that your fire alarm works. For the most part, it doesn't get super hot. Just keep your wits about you, and you should be fine.

Will it fit walnut shells
Answer: The Presto™ dehydrator trays measure about an inch between each. If there are any questions, please contact our Customer Service Department Monday-Friday 8:00am - 4:15pm Central Time at 1-800-877-0441 or contact1@gopresto.com

Q:
what temp does it work at?
Answer: not sure, there is only an on and off. basically just plug it in and that is on and unplug it and that is off. i'm going to just guess and say about 180-200, low temp for an oven.
Answer: I am not sure because there was no gauge it was automatically set
Q:
Is this as noisy as a blow dryer?
Answer: It is slightly noisy but not as noisy like blow dryer
Answer: Not as loud as a hair blow dryer, but does make some noise.. I use mines out in the garage
Answer: Not at all!!! It makes some noise but no more than a fan.
Answer: Yes!
Q:
Is the single preset temperature working for all different types of food? From herbs to meat?
Answer:
Answer:
Answer: Yes it is only single temperature. No temperature adjustment can be made. Thin sliced meat can be cooked after dehydrating for 2 hours.
Answer: Yes very good. Not too hot to ruin them just dehydrate. Times very based on what you do. Very good general purpose unit. Order a couple extra flat trays for fruit roll ups or fine herbs. They work good too.
Answer: It's not at all working
Answer: Nope. There is one setting.
Q:
Can the tray hold liquid soy milk?
Answer: No, the trays are vented for hot air.

Product reviews of Presto 06300 Dehydro Electric Food Dehydrator, Standard
Winthrop L. Farmer : Works great, but...
There's not enough room between screens for my Poblano peppers! That's why I took off a star. Most of my peppers (guajillos, mirasols, etc.) are small enough to fit, but unfortunately, I'll have to use the oven again to do my sizable crop of anchos. I wish they made spacer rings to put between levels, it would be a game-changer.
I've just dried a whole bunch of tomatoes, both cherries and regulars, and it did a great job. I'm about to load it up with some beef jerky and have every reason to think it will make some delicious snacks.
I've wanted a dehydrator for a long time and this is proving to be a fine purchase at a very reasonable price. No bunches of bells and whistles, just a good basic appliance.
LisaCapeCohen : Don't waste your money
I gave this to my husband for Christmas and I ordered it too early to be able to return it now.
Banana chips were supposed to take 5-7 hrs, we dried them for 15 hrs + and then threw them away. Total waste of money.
Candita Campbell : Poorly package in original box that was very damaged
It was sent in an original box that was damaged very badly and when I opened the box it looked OK but the cord was to short to reach my electrical outlet and took up to much counter space in a small apartment. So I decided to return it. I never look on underneath the bottom because the cord was sticking out and that when I knew this would not work for me. and as I was putting it back in the box it came in I turned it over and wow where I saw the bottom of the base was broken and I wrapped the cord in the base and put it in the box to return it.
Hitchabout : works well drying filament
with some modifications its work well enough to dry 3d filament. gets about 65C-ish.
Ben Stein : Bad packaging - ORDERING TIP HERE
UPDATE - that worked. The second unit arrived in an outer box, and intact. Original review below.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
When this first arrived, I thought the box looked perfect, so I was super-surprised to find that the dehydrator's lid was irreparably broken, making the thing useless. It simply looks crushed. Then I took another look at the box and realized that the packaging doesn't prevent this from happening, if a fairly heavy but slightly smaller object is placed on top of it. My box looked just pushed in enough that maybe that happened.
Then I read the other one-star reviews and realized that it may indeed be useless for its intended purpose anyway. Fire = bad, IMO. However I only want to dehumidify my 3D printer filament (which won't drip on the apparently-poorly-protected motor/heater assembly) and wasn't looking forward to spending a lot more in hopes of getting better packaging.
I almost did buy a hundred-dollar dehydrator, when it crossed my mind that this thing arrived without an outer box. It was not a gift so I didn't care (and hardly noticed). Fortunately we all have an option at checkout to ask that it be placed in an outer box. I've ordered another, that way, in hopes that it will arrive intact. I highly recommend this if you decide this is the right thing for you.
Still (grumble grumble) another return label to print, another confrontation with the packing tape gun, and another trip to the mailboxes-r-us place to dispose of it... ugh!
Elario Dalmas, II : Works Great for Dehydrating PETG Filament
Has no temperature control as this is the lower model. If you need exact temperature control for other filaments buy the higher model. Works great for PETG- pulls water out in 2-4 hours. I purchased another set of stacking pieces and can dehydrate two reels of plastic. Just had to use flush cut cutters to remove the bottoms of the trays (except for the bottom tray). Others have said it works well for PLA, but I haven't tried that.
Review : It's Basic, It Works
Did my 1st batch of hot peppers from my garden to make hot pepper flakes. It took about 7 hours, I cut the peppers length-wise and kept the seeds intact, then put them in my Ninja to turn them into hot pepper flakes. Worked fine. No switches or controls, just plug it in and let 'er rip. I recommend running out on a deck, patio, or garage when drying hot peppers -- fumes are intense.
bhollis : Great budget dehydrator
Been using it every weekend. Have me a camping box of food. Onions, squash, zucchini, brown rice, tomatoes, cabbage, hamburger meat and dried chicken, peaches apples and bananas. Never ate so good on a camping trip. I have put up over 10 jars a a probably 30 quart bags of emergency food as well. First the virus then our snowstorm within a year, I seen the grocery stores empty. Made me realize you can't always depend on retail store to be stocked. Ready now.
Kickin' Back : Not recommended to buy!
Not the best dehydrator and totally not recommended to buy!
It does not have any temperature control or even a turn on/off switch.
Return time window is too short. I bought it for my son's Christmas present, and by the time we had a chance to try it for the first time and discover that it wasn't a good fit for us, it was too late to return the product.
Jerimiah Cuevas : Prefect replacement to my old dehydrator
I am very happy with this Dehydrator in comparison to my old one.
1. Its less noisy (note* it still makes noise but its less annoying then say the dishwasher! LOL) My old one was a much higher pitch and had to be in a closed room by itself. This one sound more like the fan over the oven on low. you can hear it but its not annoying.
2. The trays are designed to condense down when not in use for storage (Love this)
3. The true space on each tray is less than what I had before but the air flow is WAY better and I no longer have to rotate trays half way thru.
4. It starts running the minute you plug it in. That is fine with me as it is not something I leave on the counter when not in use like other appliances so to be it not having an on and off switch is not an issue.
Over all I am very satisfied as I have done 2 batches of jerky and a batch of pineapple so far and I have only had it a week.
Brncoman1 : Doesnt get hot enough to make beef jerky
I bought this to mainly make jerky. Some de hydrated fruits too, but mostly jerky. It does make the jerky but it doesn't get the meat hot enough so you have to put it in the oven for about 10 minutes after its don't to cure it completely. It's not that big a deal but if I had known this I probably would have bought a different (more expensive) one. I would also recommend using outside if possible because it will heat up your house a lot; in fact I think it's more effective at heating my house than a space heater.
Chippie : Loud
It works well, but it's very loud. As in, you don't want to be in the same room with it. After dehydrating sweet potato slices for our dogs, and listening to the constant fan and motor noise for about 8 hours, the slices were done and so were we. I am using my old Deni (which seems to have fallen off the face of the earth as far as being available again) for now until it dies, and then will use this one in the basement where we can't hear it. It works really well, but it's just annoyingly loud.
Tom M. : Many pluses, a few drawbacks
I was a commercial mushroom picker for many years and used a variety of commercial and home-brew driers for mushrooms over that time. The last one I had (a top-down drier) died in about 4 months. This drier was amazing in some regards. It dried mushrooms that normally would have taken 12 hours in 4-6 hours. The unit is almost completely silent and the trays reverse to allow the entire unit to be stored in a compact space. Now the negatives. The temperature is set at 165 degrees--meaning it cannot be used to dry many spices (something I did want to do.) And the unique design of the trays in this unit means extra trays from other driers cannot be used with it--so you'd have to buy extra trays from this maker i you needed them. Overall, though, I'm happy with the purchase and the unit is really well built compared to other junk driers that dry from top down.
Amazon Customer : !!!FIRE HAZARD!!!
The heating vents on the outside ring allow grease to get down into the heating element (see pictures) Filled my garage with smoke from the grease burning off, super lucky it didn’t cause a grease fire and burn my house down.
I’ve only owned this dehydrator for a year, and made about 10 batches of jerky.
Company declined to refund my purchase. They offered to “repair” it, if I covered shipping both ways, which would be more expensive than the unit itself.
Will be cutting my losses and looking for another product that doesn’t have such a horrible design flaw.
Thomas A. Anderson : Great dehydrator...with no on/off switch or temp control.
Works really well, and the price is right, but I hate that it doesn’t have a temperature control, and it does not have an on/off switch. You have to plug it in, then it turns on...unplug to turn off. Again, it does work really well. I have dried fruits and beef. I have made pemmican. I have also dried my wet brass. Drying brass takes less than an hour. It is very convenient.
K. A. Krisko : Saved my produce
Wow, I've definitely gotten my money's worth from this little dehydrator. It's been running pretty much every day since I got it. I bought it in a bit of a panic when forecast early deep freeze and snow required me to pull in everything still in my garden. With no room in my freezer, I turned to dehydrating. In the last month, I've done several kinds of peppers; zucchini; tons of apples; tomatoes; beans; and a few other things. I put the dehydrator in the garage, load it up in the morning, and check during the day until things are done how I like them. I wish I'd gotten it sooner, actually; I'll be doing a lot more of this next year. The dried apple slices & tomatoes came out especially well; made 'sun-dried' tomato pesto spread that is awesome. This may not be a commercial dehydrator, but it sure does the trick for me. Best purchase I've made in a while. Pro tip: don't lean over it and put your face in the steam when drying hot peppers.
Jayne D. : Excellent Customer Service
The product does it's job, it is simple and easy to use. I was even more impressed with the customer service. My machine started acting up after about 11 months of light use. The machine would turn off randomly,or not start at all unless the cord was positioned precisely. I contacted the company, knowing I was within the 1 year warranty. They were timely and helpful in their responses. They ended up sending me a new machine (after having me cut the cord to the original and send them a picture). Overall, I am happy with this experience and plan on buying more products from Presto.
DragonXero : I got it pretty thin with just a knife
Wow. I wasn't sure about this item when I bought it, but this is an exceptional product compared to my old dehydrator.
I decided to give it a shot, slicing some tri-tip roast that was pre-marinated. I got it pretty thin with just a knife, but was unsure if it was thin enough. It absolutely was. After 6 hours, the meat was jerky, beyond all doubt. I didn't even bother cooking it, which may have been a poor decision, but I've had no issues since eating quite a bit.
It's really easy to set-up, and doesn't involve any complicated settings or anything. Just check on your product at each recommended hour (4, 6, and 8 hours), and it ended up being done by 6 hours. This is with two trays full of meat.
I'm going to try marinading my own soon, hopefully with some liquid smoke, garlic, and other spices. I need a little more salt than the pre-marinaded stuff had, but not as much as commercial jerky has.
Altogether, a beautiful device with an extremely easy-to-use application. Presto always makes good stuff in my experience. My rice cooker is very useful, and this just makes me trust the brand more.
There's no timer or heat adjustment, though. Beware if you're going for more advanced drying. Just follow the directions and you should be good. First trial was amazingly good.
Feedback5 : Deceptive offering
Bought this specifically to dry herbs and found when I read the directions, it is not suited to this task. Rechecked the Amazon description and found nothing to indicate this limitation. Luckily I have not used it and can return it but likely stuck with return charges. Good reason to avoid Amazon purchases without reliable separate source of product information.
Joseph Michael Wolschon : This has been great so far
This has been great so far. It's a little bit larger and has more room than I expected, but it has been perfect for drying out some peppers I've been growing to eventually grind into powder!

MrsBruno : I love my dehydrator so much
Right now, I'm using this exclusively to dehydrate sweet potato strips for dog treats. It's awesome. It's easy to start up, clean and store. It does its job very nicely, and while it could be quieter, I almost want the noise to remind me that it's cooking away. So much better than running the oven. I'm going to look at human treats next! Great value, too.
sinaro men : a must have for any houehold
i love this machine. i never thought i needed one of these. the packaging was a little beat up when i received it but nothing was damaged on the inside, so i'm pretty happy otherwise. it was so simple to assemble. just take everything out of the bags and stack, simple. the temperature is set around 160f i think which is perfect to dry anything you need. i grow my own mushroom and want to use this to dry them out for storage. the mushroom dried within a couple of hours sealing in the freshness. i'm going to try it with other fruits and vegetable as well. the unit is light and seem very sturdy. it gets pretty warm so keep it away from children. there are so many racks included but there are additional racks for sale as well if needed. there are ample space on the racks to put stuff in. the fan is quiet. it is easy to operate as well, just pluck and go. highly recommended.
debbiker54 : Affordable works great
I got this basic dehydrator to make dog treats due to my dog being on a limited diet and the high cost of dog treats. This model just plugs in and has one setting no on and off switch or temp control. There are 4 trays plastic to place items on. You can buy another version that come with mesh creens for dehydrating smaller items or just order them separately. I have done chicken and beef hearts, liver and gizzards. Estimated time maybe 6 to 8 hours, I cut them in small things pieces, then I heat them in oven after to kill any bacteria. It seems to use more energy but have not checked my bill. Well worth the price. I wouldn't recommend leaving it unattended but just do the dehydrating when your home. Works good, great value easy to clean, buy it!
Dayna Thai : I would say it’s a quality product overall definitely did it’s job I would buy again
I feel like the noise level increases the longer you run it. It’s not extremely hard to clean but if you don’t have a dishwasher it’s not exactly fun lots of little holes but that’s good for airflow. So far I’ve done beef jerky and it on several occasions it turned out great there is no temperature control or any settings whatsoever you just plug it in and turn it on I wish you could adjust the temperatureI would say it’s a quality product overall definitely did it’s job I would buy again
CSiekierski : Beginner Dehydrator
My husband wanted a dehydrator to make beef jerky. I did not want to spend a lot on it, but wanted one that was not so cheap it would break in a few uses. This one fits the bill. It is easy to use, and I figured out that putting the racks in the dishwasher was the best way to clean them. I attempted to wash them by hand after the first use, and after soaking and using a brush on them was ready to throw the whole thing away. But, I figured out to use the dishwasher to clean these, and now I do not mind clean up for this. My husband makes his own jerky about once a week to every other week, so this has seen a lot of use without any issue. We use it strictly for jerky, and he makes his own sugar-free marinade for the beef. We have not used it for drying fruit or anything else. All in all, very happy with our purchase!

Annie : Its a product you might not utilize daily
I was expecting this to be a little small in size but it surprised me with its size is first thing I had to return it. Secondly, after trying it to repack with the space saving stack feature, I could not see much of a difference in size truly. This product might be good for you if u have lots of empty space but for me size it acquired mattered and therefore I had to return it.
So its up to you and the space u want to occupy for a product u might utilize once in a blue moon. I hope my review helps you in judging the product correctly.
skalka : Clean, easy to use and affordable - TRIFECTA!
I am so happy I got this! I dehydrate chicken, beef, pork, apples and carrots for my dog and this dehydrator makes it so easy.
It holds a lot, cleans up easy, has easy stacking trays and has a cord tuck that makes storage easy, as well.

Amazon Customer : Awesome Dehydrator for the Price!!! A++
I reviewed serveral food dehydrator's before I made my purchase and I am happy to say I made the right choice!! I chose this dehydrator over others due to its ability to store compactly and its aesthetics in regards to appearance (oh, and the cord winds up underneath). I will probably use this dehydrator less than ten times a year; primarily used to make jerky, with occasional fruit assortments. After researching this specific dehydrator with and without thermostat, I chose to save a few extra dollars (due to my usage stated above) and purchase the one without. From my findings, there was maybe 10-15 degrees difference between each model at its highest temp and for my use was not a concern (I urge you to make your own findings.). I made jerky in thin cut slices (by knife, so as thin as I could make them) and started the process a 9:30pm. By 6am the next morning, almost all the jerky was finished. I let a few pieces go a little longer due to their thickness, but was very impressed in the outcome. The noise from the fan is minimal, at least to me. Once you place the lid over the top, it probably cuts the noise in half. Our sleeping quarters are upstairs, and since I run the dehydrator at night, there is no issue.
Based on the description I have given above on how I use my dehydrator, I highly recommend to all that will have similar usage. It's a great little machine for the price. I purchased two extra trays just so I could receive free shipping, knowing I'd end up needing a couple more in order to cut the drying time down.
Hope you enjoy your new food dehydrator as much as I do! Good luck with your purchase!
Thanks,
Don D : Great dehydrator for fruit
This is a great dehydrator for fruit. I've dried apples, blueberries, bananas and a wide variety of other fruits and they all have come out great. The only comment I really have is if you would like to make beef jerky, you should probably look elsewhere. This does not have a heat gauge and after taking some internal temperature readings, it does not get up to the required level of heat required to safely make beef jerky. Of course, you could use this in conjunction with your oven to ensure that the jerky is safe, but why not just spring for a unit that is appropriate for beef jerky and skip the step?
Tara Srofe : No temperature control
I guess I didn't read the description very good because I didn't know until I received the dehydrator that it only had one temperature and that is way above what I was looking for. I don't need it to go to 160 degrees since I am only using it for fruits and veggies and since I do my lifestyle as Raw, nothing can be that high of a temp. So I am looking to sell it to someone that is more interested in using it for jerky or something. Be sure to read ALL descriptions to be sure it is what you are looking for.
Colleen S. : Let's dehydrate everything....!
I purchased this around Christmas and it has been used frequently. We have dried apples, kiwis, pears, pineapple and just about anything else we could think of. It does not have a timer, it is pretty much a basic model but you can buy additional racks and the fruit roll attachment which we have yet to try. A bit big for some kitchens, so do measure to see if this will fit the bill for you, but we have this out all the time. We dehydrate fruits for snacks all the time and plan to try tomatoes when our crop goes crazy this year. I would not hesitate to recommend this as a starter unit. Well priced and easy to use!
Thoracias : Perfect homemade jerky every time!
I had been wanting a dehydrator for years so, on a whim one day, I just made the plunge and purchased this one. It was relatively cheap compared to others I'd seen so I figured if it didn't work, or I didn't enjoy making jerky after all, I'd only be out $30 or so.
I am so glad I bought this thing though! My first batch of deer tenderloin teriyaki jerky came out fantastic. I follow a Keto diet and beef jerky is my go-to protein snack and it can be quite an expensive habit. Store-bought jerky tends to be very high in sodium as well. I love being able to make my own marinade for my jerky a healthier way.
The dehydrator comes ready to use...there really is no "assembly" once you figure out which side of the trays meet up (which isn't rocket science). It comes with 4 trays which is plenty to start with but I've enjoyed mine so much I am ordering 4 more trays because I want to make larger batches of jerky at one time. (You only get 1/3 jerky from whatever meat you use...so 3 lbs of beef will yield only ONE pound of jerky.) This means four trays full trays might sound like a lot but it's really not.
This dehydrator is simple and easy to use. You lay the meat, put on lid and plug it in. There is no power switch or temp control. It is already set for the perfect temp. I will say this, be wary of HOW much time you use this because I got carried away in December making jerky as gifts and my electric bill shot up $70 for that month. lol
NanaJP : 100% satisfied
I’ve been buying sweet potato treats for my granddogs for ages and it finally occurred to me to make them myself. I read the reviews for this dehydrator and decided the price was what I was comfortable with and since I have no interest in dehydrating a wide variety of food, some issues like a timer, or on-off switch or noise were not a factor.
In short, I’m thrilled and this has exceeded my expectations. The unit is simple, I’m not bothered by the sound, and I use the timer on my phone to keep track.
The results are better than commercially available treats. I’ve tried both blanching and not, and while the appearance is different in the finished product the texture is not. My granddogs are happy to receive either.
The photo shows the blanched version at the top.
I am 100% satisfied.
TC : Works great for dehydrating peppers. Rather high heat and not adjustable.
A little bummed to find out it dehydrates at around 140 degrees. that is too hot for certain things. But it works well for what I am doing, which is primarily peppers and fruit.
Price is right, can't beat that.
From what I could tell from my brief research, the drying trays are BPA free.
Not the greatest amount of height in between trays when stacked. If you have some large peppers like I do, you'll have to pretty them down, or slice them up. Not a big deal I guess. Won't be an issue for most things, like sliced apples, apricots, peaches, beef jerky. Will be an issue for large plums though. Don't think you'll be able to do a lot of prunes with this.
It's not super loud, but it's not quiet either. Not really a big deal, can always put it in another room if the noise bothers you.
All in all, I'm happy with it, but for my needs, I will be upgrading soon.
Alyson Ginn : Delicious dehydrated peaches ????
While there is no tempature control on this dehydrator, I found it to be a great intro dehydrator for those just getting into it. I bought this as a way to handle my quarantine garden where I seriously underestimated the amount of cucumbers I would end up growing and found out that I could make cucumber/pickle chips this way, as well as quickly dry out my herbs. I also took a chance and dehydrated some extra peaches I had and
it made the house smelled awesome! The dried peaches tasted like delicious fruit jerky I love this thing!
Kickin' Back : Not recommended to buy!
Not the best dehydrator and totally not recommended to buy!
It does not have any temperature control or even a turn on/off switch.
Return time window is too short. I bought it for my son's Christmas present, and by the time we had a chance to try it for the first time and discover that it wasn't a good fit for us, it was too late to return the product.
michael byrd : Great dehydrator, especially for the price.
I wanted to give a fair review of this because so many people have given it a negative review for things I feel are not true. I bought this for dehydrating meat so the 165 temp is not a problem, it dehydrates thick slices of beef in 6 hours. Everything seems to be built well and judging from the pictures they changed the model some. There is no on or off button but if pulling a plug out is too difficult for you, I don’t recommend anything electric in general. There was no need to rotate as the fan worked great and my jerky was cooked evenly. The only thing bad is that it is loud, but you stop noticing it quickly.
DAW-Hines : I own 2 of them, that’s how great this machine is!
I love this food dehydrator so much that I ordered a second one. I sell dry fruits as part of my business, and dry fruits for my tea blends, so I needed two machines. The only problem I have is that the first one I ordered is very quiet, unlike the second one makes a lot of noise, but works great.
Logan : This is a great product! But here's my issues with owning them.
So first I'd like to add before I give my honest review, this product is great for time to time use and what it offers to light use but there's some down falls that I can see after owning two of these for a year, that could even become annoying to the average user.
I run a very small jerky business that I'm slowly trying to start up and expand, and the most import thing to me about this is that the FDA guidelines are followed. Here's a few issues that I've found with owning these, this strictly differs from user to user but these are mine.
- The Temperature Control is non-existance which isn't terrible because it makes it easy to setup and use, as long as the manufacture sets it to 165F it should cover all FDA guidelines on Meat/Chicken. Here's where it falls short, after doing some testing the internal temp doesn't bring all the meat to 165F+ for more than 10 minutes. This is a huge pain in the ass, as this requires more time spent cooking meat (For me 8-16lbs at a time in the oven all for 10 minutes each, and you're lucky to get 3lbs in the oven at a time.) More time spent on this means less preping/loading trays. (Not even flipping the trays is good enough to fix this problem, as the tempature just doesn't hit 165F at all!)
- Next is the maintenance which is my #1 issue - I've found over time putting the fruit roll tray on the bottom to catch the run off speeds up cleaning times a little, but the trays.. Those are an entire different story! Nothing seems to work for keeping them clean, or metigating the mess after cooking an entire batch of jerky (Not even the no stick tray covers.) Owning 16 trays - Cleaning these takes anywhere from 45-60 minutes to clean entirely - Removing every piece of residue left on them, and bleaching them from top down. I own a large brush and have to scrub constantly even after allowing them to soak overnight in a large pool of hot water with soap to help break down the gunk. (This is absolutely terrible! Even after all of that - You have to scrub vigorously.)
The cracks in the trays make it terrible for a brush to scrub, and food is constantly getting in between them - making it a nightmare to constantly keep up with to clean every single day.
Still (grumble grumble) another return label to print, another confrontation with the packing tape gun, and another trip to the mailboxes-r-us place to dispose of it... ugh!
Allie : You get what you pay for
It’s worth the price, but you are getting what you pay for. There is no temp control or on/off switch, you just plug it in. There’s no timer either. I feel like it doesn’t fully dry everything. I dehydrated strawberries, peaches, apples, bananas, and pineapples...... cut them veryyyy thin, and they were very gummy and not like chips when chewing.
Audrey Ledgerwood : It works
I really like this Dehydrator, I had one many years ago and was not happy, but they have really improved I have done peaches and nectarines so far in the fruit, also did beef jerky, followed the recipe but found 1/4 inch thick was way too thick so cut the next batch very thin and it turned out great. Also did Kale chips which turned out perfect and doesn't take long. Almost forgot did cherries which turned out very good but after using a hand pitter decided the small return after so much work was the reason I forgot. I plan on doing apples later. So its a thumbs up for peaches and nectarines so far and beef jerky and kale, so gets 5 stars.
bhollis : Great budget dehydrator
Been using it every weekend. Have me a camping box of food. Onions, squash, zucchini, brown rice, tomatoes, cabbage, hamburger meat and dried chicken, peaches apples and bananas. Never ate so good on a camping trip. I have put up over 10 jars a a probably 30 quart bags of emergency food as well. First the virus then our snowstorm within a year, I seen the grocery stores empty. Made me realize you can't always depend on retail store to be stocked. Ready now.
