There are two skus currently on the Traeger site, the sku ending in "ble" is our 2019 model, which is why it is titled 2019 Ironwood 650. The "BLF" or "BLFC" skus on AMZ and Traeger.com are the current 2020 models which include the pellet sensor int he hopper.

I see a few bad reviews about the phone app. this is one of qualities that excited me the most. can anyone else tell me about their app experience?
Answer:
Answer:
Answer: I have never tried to use the phone app. I use work recommend buying a Smoke II Alarm from Thermoworks. You can't go wrong.
Answer: I've not had any problems with the app. It reads the grill temperature and meat probe perfectly, although it can be a minute or so behind the actual temp. This isn't a game breaker since with low and slow cooking, (the only time I use the app), a minute of overcooking is not going to ruin your meal.
Answer:
Answer:
Answer: WiFire worked great for a few months. I think Traeger must have installed an “upgrade” I have tried everything suggested online. Wont reconnect. I have maybe 15-20 hours trying to get WiFire reconnected. No luck.
Q:
How is the smoke controlled? If I’m doing a duck low-and-slow for five hours, I only want smoke on it for part of that time.
Answer: The smoke is controlled by setting the Ironwood 650 Grill anywhere from 160-225 °F. At these temperatures the smoke is emulated. The Ironwood 650 also offers the Super Smoke Mode that lets you crank up the flavor with the press of a button. We highly recommend 180 as a nice low and slow temperature.
Answer: When you fire your grill with hardwood you're always going to get a little smoke flavor, but it depends on the temperature you're cooking at.
Q:
Does it come with a drip bucket?

Answer: Yes. Mine came with the drip bucket and a liner.
Answer: Yes it does and you can buy liners for it as well that makes clean up easier but works well without them too.
Answer: Yes
Q:
How does the Super Smoker mode work?
Answer: Super Smoke only works from 165F to 225F. As you set your temp, press the Sumer a smoke button on your Traeger app or D2 controller on the grill. For low and slow cooks, this mode imparts more smoke in the Traeger to circulate. The result is a much more prominent smoke ring and thus, more smoke flavor.
Answer: No idea but it definitely produces more blue smoke and my brisket gets a larger smoke ring.

Answer: It will not drop below your set temp but it might get up to 10-12 degrees above your set temp
Answer: Depends on the outdoor temperature but usually it holds within 5 degrees.

Q:
Does the elite grill come with temp probes?
Q:
At 200 degrees, will you have to add more pellets if you cook something for 10-12 hours? If so, how many times would you have to refill the hopper?
Answer: No, 1 hopper of pellets would be enough
Q:
Do you have grill mats for the Ironwood 650?
Answer: No
Q:
How often and how difficult is it to clean?
Answer: It actually is not that challenging to clean nor is it difficult to put together. My wife and I had it together in less than an hour and cleaning time took less than 30 minutes. Note you are recommended to clean it every 5th smoke. But really, much easier to clean than the gas grill by Webber we have.
Answer: I just got the grill last month, so I have only cleaned it twice. Very easy, shop vac and wipe down with damp towel. My friends who have them say if you clean every three or four smokes or after an especially long one you should be good.
Q:
Does the smoker tend to have a hot spot close to the side with the pellet hopper, as you would see with a typical offset smoker?
Answer: I don’t typically use the grill part of the smoker. I put my meat on a foil covered sheet with a grill on it. Maybe because of my method I haven’t experienced any hot spots!
Answer: No, the pellets are brought to a firepot in the bottom center of the grill barrel by an auger before being lit. The grill's internals then deflect the direct heat of the flame and circulate the hot air around the inside of the barrel.
Answer: No, with the firepot located in the center of the barrel and the fan that is used to maintain temperature, this smoker acts much more like a convection oven. If there's any hot spot, it's in the back near the downdraft vent, but it's not a big enough difference to notice.
Answer: I have not experienced a hot spot as you described.
Answer: Not that we have noticed, It's a wonderful smoker
Answer: No, have not experienced this. In fact the thermocouple is located on this wall so I would think this area would be closer to the set point. Smoker works well and we are enjoying it.
Answer: No. The Ironwood series heat evenly, and the fire pot is dead center with a diffuser.
Q:

Product reviews of Traeger Grills Ironwood 650 Wood Pellet Grill and Smoker Bundle with Cover and Signature Pellets featuring Alexa and WiFIRE Smart Home Technology - Black
S. Weaver : Best, most expensive, grill I've ever owned.
As soon as I started to assemble this grill I became impressed. The construction is fantastic. Getting it up and running took a little while because I didn't realize there is a power switch on the BACK of the grill, basically a master switch. Once I figured that out, connecting to the internet and seasoning the grill was very easy and in no time at all I was smoking a nice thick rib eye, squash, and corn on the cob. It is easy as pie with the app. Now I do not put apps like this on my phone because they like to snatch personal information, but I put it on a tablet that has no contacts and never leaves the house.
Gina A : Easy to assemble
Assembly is straightforward and easy to get setup.
Sue Bellamy : Just okay
Shuts off randomly for no reason. After the first few uses, the "clean grill" sensor now goes off every time I use the grill. Tends to overcook the underside of a brisket. Wifi won't work, and the directions don't help with troubleshooting. After dropping 1100 on a top of the line smoker, I didn't figure to have to spend half my day on the phone with customer service this soon.

Buffalohanz : Awesome
Don’t believe haters- this is the best grill hands down- live in very cold northeast it works awesome had it over a year no problems with WiFi or grill. We use this 365 days a year with zero issues
robert : Hard to improve on it
Game changer. Literally set it and forget it. Your phone is your legs. Total control from inside home
Ubiquity LLC : Traeger
I have always been a charcoal smoker, but this has the ability to change my methods. I am learning the smoker, but the app integration is a game changer. great product
EJ Patek : Our love quickly faded into remorse, regret and anger.
After a long time Weber gas grill owner I decided to venture into the world of pellet smokers/grills. The Ironwood 650 was the right mix of size and function. It has the awesome Wi-Fi integration with the App that allows for remote control and monitoring to ensure my continued laziness while producing finely smoked meats.
Initially I loved this grill. It was so easy and convenient to make nearly anything I could think of. Whole chicken, chicken thighs, tri-tip, brisket, smoked veggies and even smoked mashed potatoes.
The first time I used it as a searing station (as advertised) at 500F the whole thing caught fire and luckily, shut itself down. The fire persisted for several minutes while I lied in wait with a fire extinguisher thinking it was going to burn my house down. Thankfully it did not but I gave up using it as advertised at 500F. There was no grease residue that would explain this behavior. The fire was isolated to the hopper. I even contacted Traeger support who told me to "upgrade the firmware on the grill". Great. Blindly do software updates to see if that solves the problem.
After that incident I resigned myself to using it only as a smoker. 165F with "Super Smoke" enabled to smoke primarily chicken and the occasional tri-tip. The grease trap system is a joke so I began putting disposable aluminum foil trays under the grates to catch any grease. This also cutdown on the mess inside to clean up.
Fast forward 7 months and I noticed on the side of the barrel exterior powder coat was peeling. I immediately contacted support where I was told it was my fault for not cleaning out the grease trap which resulted in a grease fire. Really? Because 1) I don't use the grease trap 2) I only use it to smoke and not sear. Not satisfied with this answer I called back again and then again where I was told the same. It was my fault. When I asked what the temp rating of the exterior enamel is the agent said she didn't know.
Their solution was to paint it with a high temp enamel which I am in the process of doing. $9 at Home Depot for 2000F tolerant automotive paint. So after less than a year, the customer is told to repaint their own $1,200 grill.
I searched the forums and this is apparently a very common issue with Traeger. The recommendation is the same as what I was told. Repaint it yourself. I'm done with Traeger. My 10 year old Weber has never had an enamel issue and I constantly run it at 500F and have had several actual grease fires. No issues with peeling. I was planning on upgrading to the Timberline later this year but after this I'm done. I'll be going with another brand and will never look back.
Lee B. : Easy to use
I had it assembled a couple days after I got it. It is easy to use and makes food taste great. temperature control is pretty good but not perfect at every temperature..
Randy : Not Fantastic At All
I’ve used every kind of smoker and this takes all the work out of it. It really feels like cheating.
Update—-
I hate to say but this was not a good purchase and costumer service has been less than helpful. I have had numerous issues with the thermocouple and have had to replace twice. Tonight, it started heating up way beyond the set temp and would not come down. I am beyond disappointed that something that costs this much is so much trouble. Wish I could return and just go back to my offset.

N. Eckert : Best grill hands down
This is my second Traeger and it is the only grill worth it. I tried a RecTec and this is 1000 times better. Easier to assemble, more reliable, better flavor, and doesn't catch fire (which is nice). Great overall product and company. Highly recommend.
Kindle Customer : New way of bbquing
My nephew’s baby, he loves it and has been experimenting with different flavors.
Aleshia : Damaged goods
It was so damaged had to send back!
Starman 2112 : MUCH better the my previous Traeger
I had an older model, top of the line huge stainless steel model. The thing was nothing but trouble and only really lasted 5 years because the auger locked up. The thing would never start and hardly smoked and never got that hot. This new model is absolutely fantastic. Its obviously much better designed and it just works... press the button and it works. It got up to 500 degrees yesterday for burgers in minutes. So far I absolutely love it, the wifi feature with app is astronomically better. I cant wait to try larger smokes (so far did a 5 hour tri-tip that came out absolutely awesome).
troy : Love it!
We all know it’s pricey, but I’ve yet to have an ounce of buyer’s remorse. Great product!

Rick Suarez : Excellent grill. Worth every penny.
Incredible grill. After spending months researching, I took the recommendation of Consumer Reports whom rated The Ironwood 650 the top wood pellet grill. There are many brands to choose from which can be overwhelming considering the amount of money required to buy one. I am an avid BBQ hobbyist and own multiple grills. Buying a wood pellet grill was so that I could smoke meats without having to be monitoring constantly to add wood, charcoal, or check temps. Thus, a grill whose app providea the functionality to be away and monitor from my phone while at the same time maintaining a consistent temperature to facilitate an even cook throughout the meat was essential to me. Consumer Reports scored the Ironwood best in regards to these two criteria. After several cooks, I can say with confidence that they are correct. I couldn’t be more pleased. I loved being able to run errands while monitoring the temperature and progress of the smoke from my iPhone. A feature of the app and grill I love is to be able to place it on a warm mode when the meat is done cooking. Everything I have cooked has turned out delicious and flavorful. I absolutely am satisfied with my purchase and highly recommend this product. It is worth the cost.
Stephen J. : Changing pellets not easy because toe design
I have been using the Signature pellets and decided today to switch to Apple pellets to smoke pork chops. The directions say it is easy to do. Well it is. The chute opening to let the pellets out is too far towards the right (looking from the back) and therefore a bucket cannot be placed on the ground directly under the chute because of the wheel. Second, not all the pellets slide out and there have to be pushed toward the chute from the top. However there is a grate that obstructs moving the pellets. I am pretty sure it is a safety device so a person does not get their hand in the the auger chute, but it would be nice if it could be lifted up to allow for moving pellets toward the back of the pellet box into the chute where the pellets exit the box. By the time I got done I had pellets all over my deck. Otherwise it is a good smoker.

Melvin Voyzey : Great Smoker
The new Traegar smoker is great. It was difficult to put together as it is heavy and round. There is nothing good to pick it up as the lid opens and there are no handles. After assembled its easy to move around. This smoker had a great new feature - a door to drain the unused pellets so you can change pellets at any time. Unfortunately it is positioned in a spot you cant put a bucket to catch the pellets. The dump on top of a wheel. I made a makeshift spout to redirect the pellets into my container. I would recommend it to anyone interested in getting into Smokin'
TJ : Amazing grill!
Easy assembly! Unfortunately, the wheel was broken. Amazon would have had to take back the entire grill so I called Traeger -wonderful people to deal with. I just had to register the grill and they sent me an entire arm with wheel as it was under warranty so they covered the expense. This grill is amazing and worth the money!
CHRIS SEXTON : Why look elsewhere
Beautiful machine, everyone should own one

Richard Sims : Love this.
So I have a manual smoker, but it is an incredible amount of work. I did enjoy using it, and the results were great, but I could never hope to manage a long smoke, like a big brisket, because it just takes too long and I didn't want to spend the time. This Traeger is fantastic, I set the temp and walk away. Everything I have done has been fantastic so far.
The only flaw that it has is the hopper drain. It has a drain so that you can empty out the pellet hopper, presumably so that you change pellet types. Well there is a "grate" which completely spans the width of the pellet tray, and it blocks you from being able to "guide" the pellets out the hopper, so it's a real pain and you can't really empty them out all the way... But I just use Hickory and that's fine for me...
Buffalohanz : Awesome
Don’t believe haters- this is the best grill hands down- live in very cold northeast it works awesome had it over a year no problems with WiFi or grill. We use this 365 days a year with zero issues
Thomas K. : Loving it
7 days in the last 2 weeks. Works great.
Nick Monaco : Horrendous Customer Service.... Great Grill
I have maybe only had one worse experience with a business in my life, and that was with a literal criminal who was trying to steal people's money. This company has the most abhorrent customer service process in the history of time. We received a broken grill, when I called to figure out how I can get a replacement grill I was told that it would be 3 months before they could guarantee me a replacement, but that the dented top should still enable the grill to work fine, no problems should arise. Clearly the employee and his manager who "had the same grill and confirmed it shouldn't be an issue" don't know anything about the convection process and having a fully sealed smoking environment, good hires all around there Traeger.
I realized I was speaking with people who had no idea what they were talking about, and while on hold for 2 hours looked up the model that I had gotten delivered and saw that there were ones available at local vendor locations ALL over the area. I informed the rep that I just wanted a refund and for them to come pick the grill up. This triggered a Month long process where Traeger held our refund until the grill was picked up. Every 3rd day I would call for an update to which Traeger would tell me they have no ability to see when Pilot the shipping company would come pick up the grill, but that I should call them and ask. Each time they gave me a call tag number, nobody at Pilot had any clue what I was talking about, on top of that Pilot agreed that it was asinine that Traeger was making me call them instead of doing it for their upset customer. Month goes by, nothing happens, I finally told them I am going to BBB and they said well if you just unpack the broken grill again, take the computer sensor out of it "find a video online" and mail us that, then we can process your refund. 2 days later Pilot calls to schedule pickup.
Moral to the story is THEY HAVE NO IDEA WHAT IS GOING ON, and had no insight to the process and were the least helpful people I have ever met. I was promised some "complimentary seasonings" from one of the managers 3 weeks ago, still haven't arrived. The grill was picked up last week, we still have not gotten a refund.
Final statement, the grill I went out and got and assembled that wasn't broken is awesome and I love the product, but the company as a whole is GOD AWFUL. Will not recommend going to them for anything to anyone ever again. Choose your local vendor over the Corporate Traeger team every day of the week and twice on Smoke Sundays.
corie fulop : Worth the $ sturdy nice looking fits anywhere
ABSOLUTELY THE BEST THING I EVER PURCHASED FOR COOKING worth the $$$$$
Natassia008 : AMAZING from a big green egg owner
I bought this and sold my big green egg after 2.5 years of ownership because i was tired of babysitting the grill. I expected the food to be less Smokey and boy was I wrong. First of all, the WiFi is AMAZING, do not underestimate the convenience!!!! I smoked a prime rip for Christmas dinner tonight, 2 hours at 180 on super smoke then finished it at 265 and holy cow. A beautiful smoke ring and tasted better than any prime rib I made on my egg. Five stars all the way
Aleshia : Damaged goods
It was so damaged had to send back!
Driderk : Makes smoking meat too easy.
This grill is amazing for smoking meat or just your standard quick grilling. Only issue I have had is connecting to wifi. Even tried setting up a special 2.4 ghz signal but still won't stay connected, so that almost brought it down to 4 star, but everything I pull off there is so easy and delicious, I couldn't ding it.
Martie Tamimi : Smokey
This grill is great! Convenient to use with WIFI connection. Meat is always tender and juicy.

DBB : So far, pretty impressed
Literally received and assembled this today, and had a GREAT shipping experience from Amazon. Two techs, lift gate, right on time. Coming from decades of charcoal only smoking, finally made the move to a pellet smoker. Lots of research proved there is probably NOT a perfect one for everyone, but I settled on the Ironwood 650 from Traeger. Assembled in 20 minutes, and only needed help standing it upright. Seasoned the grill for 30 minutes at 300 degrees, then 20 minutes more at 500. Because I was smart enough to split my WIFI networks, hooking it to the 2.4 band was simple. Traeger states it only works on the 2.4 band WIFI, so if you have Self Organizing Networks enabled, you may have to "split" your networks, but may not.
Priming the auger was the next step, and easily done via the control panel on the unit, and it started a 2 minute countdown clock. I was getting nervous nearing the end of the countdown as no pellets had fallen into the firebox yet, but right as the clock reached zero, sure enough, a couple plinked in there. Started it up, and let it come up to temp, and was curious about the "Super Smoke" option, and decided on a few racks of ribs @ 225 degrees to test it out. Be advised "Super Smoke" will NOT work above 225 degrees. Grill came up to temp, enabled the Super Smoke from the app, and the fan started to cycle accordingly. Making adjustments, changing temps, even setting timers was just too damned simple on the app. Got reminders when timers expired. Onto the 1.5 hour phase of my 3-1.5-1 rib smoke, and thus far, just can't complain about anything.
Will update this review if anything changes, but thus far, the grill, packaging, assembly, app, and use have been without issue. Also, if you're in need of a good mobile pellet storage container, this one has worked out great.

Don't Ask : Excellent customer service
The grill I received could not be assembled because of a manufacturing defect. I contacted Traeger, showed them the problem (video call which they arranged) and they promptly placed an order for a replacement grill. The replacement grill arrived one week later (they promised 5 to 7 work days and met that promise)
In short, I was disappointed in the flaw, but Traeger responded appropriately and made things right. I am very happy with their response.
Brady & Valerie : Easiest smoker/grill experience ever
Easy to assemble and even easier to cook on! Seriously the easiest grilling experience and smoking ever. I am a first time smoker and this has made it super fun. Highly recommend.
Lee B. : Easy to use
I had it assembled a couple days after I got it. It is easy to use and makes food taste great. temperature control is pretty good but not perfect at every temperature..
