Answer: Traeger Ironwood 650 has a total amount of 650 square inches of grilling space. This should allow space for 2 turkeys, depending on the size.

Answer: Hello, i work for Traeger and can help answer your question on the model numbers. There are two skus currently on the Traeger site, the sku ending in "ble" is our 2019 model, which is why it is titled 2019 Ironwood 650. The "BLF" or "BLFC" skus on AMZ and Traeger.com are the current 2020 models which include the pellet sensor int he hopper.

Answer: I've not had any problems with the app. It reads the grill temperature and meat probe perfectly, although it can be a minute or so behind the actual temp. This isn't a game breaker since with low and slow cooking, (the only time I use the app), a minute of overcooking is not going to ruin your meal.

Answer: The smoke is controlled by setting the Ironwood 650 Grill anywhere from 160-225 °F. At these temperatures the smoke is emulated. The Ironwood 650 also offers the Super Smoke Mode that lets you crank up the flavor with the press of a button. We highly recommend 180 as a nice low and slow temperature.

Answer: It actually is not that challenging to clean nor is it difficult to put together. My wife and I had it together in less than an hour and cleaning time took less than 30 minutes. Note you are recommended to clean it every 5th smoke. But really, much easier to clean than the gas grill by Webber we have.
Answer: I just got the grill last month, so I have only cleaned it twice. Very easy, shop vac and wipe down with damp towel. My friends who have them say if you clean every three or four smokes or after an especially long one you should be good.

Does the smoker tend to have a hot spot close to the side with the pellet hopper, as you would see with a typical offset smoker?
Answer: I don’t typically use the grill part of the smoker. I put my meat on a foil covered sheet with a grill on it. Maybe because of my method I haven’t experienced any hot spots!
Answer: No, the pellets are brought to a firepot in the bottom center of the grill barrel by an auger before being lit. The grill's internals then deflect the direct heat of the flame and circulate the hot air around the inside of the barrel.
Answer: No, with the firepot located in the center of the barrel and the fan that is used to maintain temperature, this smoker acts much more like a convection oven. If there's any hot spot, it's in the back near the downdraft vent, but it's not a big enough difference to notice.

I keep it under a covered patio with a cover over the grill. There is no way to bypass the issue, the grill/smoker will not function at all and I was stuck standing close to my DCS gas grill smoking the ribs monitoring the temperature for 6 HOURS rather than spending time with my family!!!
I called Traeger on July 6 and was told they would send the warranty replacement part and followed up with two video links on how to replace the part. Today it has been 2 weeks and still no part and no followup letting me know the part is on back order. When I called again today I was told that when it comes into the warehouse it will take an additional 5 to 10 days to ship. Ridiculous. I wish a reviewer had warned me about the potential for a component failure and no ability to override before I purchased the grill. Apparently this is not a unique issue with the grills.

Literally received and assembled this today, and had a GREAT shipping experience from Amazon. Two techs, lift gate, right on time. Coming from decades of charcoal only smoking, finally made the move to a pellet smoker. Lots of research proved there is probably NOT a perfect one for everyone, but I settled on the Ironwood 650 from Traeger. Assembled in 20 minutes, and only needed help standing it upright. Seasoned the grill for 30 minutes at 300 degrees, then 20 minutes more at 500. Because I was smart enough to split my WIFI networks, hooking it to the 2.4 band was simple. Traeger states it only works on the 2.4 band WIFI, so if you have Self Organizing Networks enabled, you may have to "split" your networks, but may not.
Priming the auger was the next step, and easily done via the control panel on the unit, and it started a 2 minute countdown clock. I was getting nervous nearing the end of the countdown as no pellets had fallen into the firebox yet, but right as the clock reached zero, sure enough, a couple plinked in there. Started it up, and let it come up to temp, and was curious about the "Super Smoke" option, and decided on a few racks of ribs @ 225 degrees to test it out. Be advised "Super Smoke" will NOT work above 225 degrees. Grill came up to temp, enabled the Super Smoke from the app, and the fan started to cycle accordingly. Making adjustments, changing temps, even setting timers was just too damned simple on the app. Got reminders when timers expired. Onto the 1.5 hour phase of my 3-1.5-1 rib smoke, and thus far, just can't complain about anything.
Will update this review if anything changes, but thus far, the grill, packaging, assembly, app, and use have been without issue. Also, if you're in need of a good mobile pellet storage container, this one has worked out great.

This grill is amazing for smoking meat or just your standard quick grilling. Only issue I have had is connecting to wifi. After a long time Weber gas grill owner I decided to venture into the world of pellet smokers/grills. The Ironwood 650 was the right mix of size and function. It has the awesome Wi-Fi integration with the App that allows for remote control and monitoring to ensure my continued laziness while producing finely smoked meats.
Initially I loved this grill. It was so easy and convenient to make nearly anything I could think of. Whole chicken, chicken thighs, tri-tip, brisket, smoked veggies and even smoked mashed potatoes.
The first time I used it as a searing station (as advertised) at 500F the whole thing caught fire and luckily, shut itself down. The fire persisted for several minutes while I lied in wait with a fire extinguisher thinking it was going to burn my house down. Thankfully it did not but I gave up using it as advertised at 500F. There was no grease residue that would explain this behavior. The fire was isolated to the hopper. I even contacted Traeger support who told me to "upgrade the firmware on the grill". Great. Blindly do software updates to see if that solves the problem.
After that incident I resigned myself to using it only as a smoker. 165F with "Super Smoke" enabled to smoke primarily chicken and the occasional tri-tip. The grease trap system is a joke so I began putting disposable aluminum foil trays under the grates to catch any grease. This also cutdown on the mess inside to clean up.
Fast forward 7 months and I noticed on the side of the barrel exterior powder coat was peeling. I immediately contacted support where I was told it was my fault for not cleaning out the grease trap which resulted in a grease fire. Really? Because 1) I don't use the grease trap 2) I only use it to smoke and not sear. Not satisfied with this answer I called back again and then again where I was told the same. It was my fault. When I asked what the temp rating of the exterior enamel is the agent said she didn't know.
Their solution was to paint it with a high temp enamel which I am in the process of doing. $9 at Home Depot for 2000F tolerant automotive paint. So after less than a year, the customer is told to repaint their own $1,200 grill.
I searched the forums and this is apparently a very common issue with Traeger. The recommendation is the same as what I was told. Repaint it yourself. I'm done with Traeger. My 10 year old Weber has never had an enamel issue and I constantly run it at 500F and have had several actual grease fires. No issues with peeling. I was planning on upgrading to the Timberline later this year but after this I'm done. I'll be going with another brand and will never look back.

The delivery of my Traeger was rescheduled twice. Website stated that customer changed it which was untrue. The day it was finally delivered was inconvenient as both my husband and I had to get to work.
However the men who assembled the Traeger were excellent. Knowledgeable and professional!
We have yet to use the Traeger as the delivery did not allow enough time to do so. But I suspect my husband will love it!

My wife finally spent the money on the Ironwood 650 with WiFire technology. We've had the grill for about a month now and I've spent about 6 hours of my life on the phone with Traeger customer service trying to get the WiFi to connect to my home router. We've done a hard reset of the grill. A soft reset. We've manually tried to connect it following their instructions. We've separated our 2.4Ghz and 5g signals like they asked us to. We've changed the passwords to something more "friendly" for this fragile WiFire system. And still the grill refuses to connect. It's now been two weeks since the situation has been "escalated" to higher level peeps than who we've been dealing with. I was told I would hear from them in a few days. No follow up on what their next move will be. I called for an update two days ago and was told "we don't have an update". To be fair the customer service people have been friendly. But completely useless in solving the problem.
Don't buy a grill from this disgusting company. They do not stand behind there product. They don't deserve your money.

I love this grill! It does everything thing I want to do and is soooo easy to use. It has the ease of use of a gas grill with the flavor of a wood-fired oven. It is great! Admittedly, it does not do the searing thing well but that is not a big thing for me because I use a Big Green Egg for that.
Be forewarned that the paint does not live up to the quality of the rest of the grill. After a few uses it will bubble and fall off in places and Traeger will not do anything about it. It is a shame that something so basic was not addressed in the design and manufacturing process. I have a 10 year old Weber grill that looks brand new (well close) on the outside and it has gotten VERY hot and spent its life uncovered in Chicago weather. Not sure why they chose to skimp on the paint because other than that they knocked it out of the park.

We've done a hard reset of the grill. A soft reset. We've manually tried to connect it following their instructions. We've separated our 2.4Ghz and 5g signals like they asked us to. We've changed the passwords to something more "friendly" for this fragile WiFire system. And still the grill refuses to connect. It's now been two weeks since the situation has been "escalated" to higher level peeps than who we've been dealing with. I was told I would hear from them in a few days. No follow up on what their next move will be. I called for an update two days ago and was told "we don't have an update". To be fair the customer service people have been friendly. But completely useless in solving the problem.
Don't buy a grill from this disgusting company. They do not stand behind there product. They don't deserve your money.

I've had the 650 for a month now and have used it a couple dozen times to smoke/grill various meats. So far it works as advertised and performs excellently. I'm not a smoker pro or fanatic, so a big attraction for me was the "set and forget it" ability. And that has worked perfectly. I pour in the pellets and walk away, monitoring temps on my iPhone and making adjustments. I do some spritzing and maybe wrap the meat, but otherwise the Traeger runs on its own. The results have been amazing (ribs, brisket, salmon, steak, butt, et al.)
Some notes--
Assembly: Very easy, BUT it's two person job. I'm big and husky and was able to do it all myself, but would highly not recommend it.
Wifi: Some people have trouble with this and I did too initially, but I asked my wife to help (she's more tech savvy) and she synced the Traeger up with my phone in seconds. Since then, the wifi connection has worked flawlessly. Wherever I'm at, I can monitor and adjust temps, turn it to "keep warm" mode, get pellet level notices, etc. This is a really cool feature.
Smoke performance: Like any pellet smoker, you don't get quite the same smoke intensity as a stick burner, but I make up for that by using a smoke tube from time to time. This works pretty awesome.
Reliability: So far, I've had no glitches or malfunctions. Some people have had problems down the road--like any machine, some break prematurely--but fingers crossed, not a problem here.
Summary: Traegers are pricey, but for me it's been worth it.

I've been eyeing a new grill for some time now and as spring approached I decided to try a Traeger. I went with the Ironwood because it has double sidewalls and the super smoke feature. I also can't justify spending roughly double the price for a the Timberline.
So far, so good. Grilling and smoking meat is so easy on the Traeger that it almose feels like cheating.
From basic grilled chicken to smoked burgers and sausages, to full racks of ribs, the Traeger does it all and does it well. It also makes monitoring and adjusting temperatures easy with the WiFire app.
To top it all off, the wood fired flavor is really there, even when grilling.

If you want to get into smoking meat and wood fired flavor, the Traeger is a great way to learn.
The Ironwood gets up to 500 degrees so it will sear, but you won't get the grill marks you're used to with charcoal or gas.
Traeger a have a bit more maintenance than a gas grill. You have to vaccum out the ashes every 20 hours of cooking, so keep that I'm mind if you're going to do a long smoke, like a brisket or Boston butt.
Traeger grills do need AC power, so it needs to be near a power outlet.
The wood fired flavor is amazing, especially with the Super Smoke feature. You just can't go wrong with this grill.

All of the smoking/grilling/cooking works great. I upgraded to get one that was Wifi enabled, and it's been a total disaster, never works, Traeger support is zero help. Ive spent hours with them telling me the same thing on the phone and then they hang up. I wish I was making this up because I love the brand but really bummed about the customer support and technology.

You don't need to go bigger unless you are cooking for a family of twenty or more. This is the gold standard in the industry. Just do it, you want to do it... Pull the trigger here, and you wont be let down. The absolute best customer service that I have ever dealt with. I cannot say enough about this product.

Lori13 : Issue with Delivery
The delivery of my Traeger was rescheduled twice. Website stated that customer changed it which was untrue. The day it was finally delivered was inconvenient as both my husband and I had to get to work.
However the men who assembled the Traeger were excellent. Knowledgeable and professional!
We have yet to use the Traeger as the delivery did not allow enough time to do so. But I suspect my husband will love it!

Absolutely the best grill I've ever owned! Perfect baby back ribs, fabulous flat brisket, and delicious pulled pork roast. Grilled New York Strip steaks came out better than you can get at a steakhouse. Assembly was very easy, it's recommended use two people for assembly as the grill is very heavy. Packaging and directions were excellent. Order an extra bag of pellets; as you'll burn through most of the bag that comes with the grill, with the burn in process. Phone application is awesome and this grill can be used with Alexa. I named my grill Stoked on smoke.

Shuts off randomly for no reason. After the first few uses, the "clean grill" sensor now goes off every time I use the grill. Tends to overcook the underside of a brisket. Wifi won't work, and the directions don't help with troubleshooting. After dropping 1100 on a top of the line smoker, I didn't figure to have to spend half my day on the phone with customer service this soon.

This thing is incredible. It used to take over an hour to get my Weber Smokey Mountain fired up and to the right temperature. In 40 degree weather I turned it on and was ready to put the meat on at 225 degrees in 7 minutes. Just an amazing product. Side note...Traeger brand pellets tend to burn a little faster and hotter than some of the others I have tried. Great flavor though.
G. Kerber : Lame phone app and horrible customer service
The grill is fine. The electronic controls aren’t the best though. When I first got the grill, the phone app worked fine. Then Traeger decided to update it. Now all I get is marketing items wanting me to buy something. I was required to sign up for an account with Traeger (really? For my OWN grill?). Then it wanted me to identify my grill by scanning the barcode on the grill. After I umpteen times trying that, it would not connect. So I tried contacting Traeger. Good luck with that. Had to leave a message and after several days, no return call. There’s no email link on their website. Your only choice is to call. Apparently Traeger only wants to sell grills and accessories and that’s it.
CJ Manalo : Traeger Ironwood 650
This is my first Traeger and I'm glad I bought it after 6 months of debating. I cooked on it for 6 days straight to put it to the test and it performed great every single time. I'm glad I went with the Ironwood instead of the Pro series. Everything I cooked on it (pulled pork, salmon, ribs, tri-tip) came out with consistent results every time. The app works great to monitor your cooks when you're away. I will say though, you will need a wi-fi extender if your router is far from your backyard. The Ironwood also only connects to a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi signal. The Traeger does what it's supposed to do and the hype is real. The temps hold steady for hours on end. For those with a busy lifestyle but still want to smoke/grill food, you have to get one. It's a game changer. On my Ironwood 650 I was able to cook 3 racks of ribs at the same time (just to give you reference of grill space).

This is an expensive grill. Even using the super smoker function smoke flavor is barely noticable! Smoker should not be in the description. If you like smoke flavor please avoid this grill. I would return it but don't have the help.
