There are two skus currently on the Traeger site, the sku ending in "ble" is our 2019 model, which is why it is titled 2019 Ironwood 650. The "BLF" or "BLFC" skus on AMZ and Traeger.com are the current 2020 models which include the pellet sensor int he hopper.

Q:
I see a few bad reviews about the phone app. this is one of qualities that excited me the most. can anyone else tell me about their app experience?
Answer:
Answer:
Answer: I have never tried to use the phone app. I use work recommend buying a Smoke II Alarm from Thermoworks. You can't go wrong.
Answer: I've not had any problems with the app. It reads the grill temperature and meat probe perfectly, although it can be a minute or so behind the actual temp. This isn't a game breaker since with low and slow cooking, (the only time I use the app), a minute of overcooking is not going to ruin your meal.
Answer:
Answer:
Answer: WiFire worked great for a few months. I think Traeger must have installed an “upgrade” I have tried everything suggested online. Wont reconnect. I have maybe 15-20 hours trying to get WiFire reconnected. No luck.
Q:
How is the smoke controlled? If I’m doing a duck low-and-slow for five hours, I only want smoke on it for part of that time.
Answer: The smoke is controlled by setting the Ironwood 650 Grill anywhere from 160-225 °F. At these temperatures the smoke is emulated. The Ironwood 650 also offers the Super Smoke Mode that lets you crank up the flavor with the press of a button. We highly recommend 180 as a nice low and slow temperature.
Answer: When you fire your grill with hardwood you're always going to get a little smoke flavor, but it depends on the temperature you're cooking at.
Q:
Does it come with a drip bucket?
Answer: Yes, this does indeed come with a drip bucket.
Answer: Yes. Mine came with the drip bucket and a liner.
Answer: Yes it does and you can buy liners for it as well that makes clean up easier but works well without them too.
Answer: Yes
Q:
How does the Super Smoker mode work?
Answer: Super Smoke only works from 165F to 225F. As you set your temp, press the Sumer a smoke button on your Traeger app or D2 controller on the grill. For low and slow cooks, this mode imparts more smoke in the Traeger to circulate. The result is a much more prominent smoke ring and thus, more smoke flavor.
Answer: No idea but it definitely produces more blue smoke and my brisket gets a larger smoke ring.
Q:
Do you get the cover and two bags of pellets when you buy on Amazon?
Answer: No, just the grill
Q:
Does this grill cover fit the bbq400 traeger grill?
Q:

Answer: The Ironwood 650 legs are 34.80 inches apart lengthwise and 26.68 inches apart in width, so it will fit on a 39-inch wide platform.
Answer: I just checked mine since it's still rolled out from Thanksgiving and the outside edges of the wheels at the bottom of the legs are 35" from left to right and 27" deep

Q:
Does the Ironwood 650 have a dedicated searing zone so that you may remove the heat reflector for directly exposing meats to the flame?
Answer: No. Although I’m sure you can remove the grease drip tray and the heat baffle, the Traeger isn’t built for this. I will say though that I’ve seared meats just fine without direct flame. I set the temp to 500F and out the bottom grill grates one the lowest rack.

Q:
Is it normal for Grill to let off a lot of smoke?
Q:
Does this model have the “smoke tube”?
Answer: The Ironwood 650 does not come with a smoke tube.
Answer: No, it has a super smoke mode at temperatures 225 and below.
Answer: No there is no smoke tube has a vent along the back of grill so far no grease drips.
Q:
When you set a temperature, what range will the temperature vary? For example, if you set 220 F will the temperature vary from 200 to 240?
Answer: It will not drop below your set temp but it might get up to 10-12 degrees above your set temp
Answer: Depends on the outdoor temperature but usually it holds within 5 degrees.
Answer: For me it’s +/- 5 degrees max. You might see it fluctuate more in a colder climate or when a constant breeze blows toward your downdraft exhaust. But for the most part it stays right on target.
Q:
Does the elite grill come with temp probes?
Q:
At 200 degrees, will you have to add more pellets if you cook something for 10-12 hours? If so, how many times would you have to refill the hopper?
Answer: No, 1 hopper of pellets would be enough
Q:
Do you have grill mats for the Ironwood 650?
Answer: No
Q:
How often and how difficult is it to clean?
Answer: It actually is not that challenging to clean nor is it difficult to put together. My wife and I had it together in less than an hour and cleaning time took less than 30 minutes. Note you are recommended to clean it every 5th smoke. But really, much easier to clean than the gas grill by Webber we have.
Answer: I just got the grill last month, so I have only cleaned it twice. Very easy, shop vac and wipe down with damp towel. My friends who have them say if you clean every three or four smokes or after an especially long one you should be good.
Q:
Does the smoker tend to have a hot spot close to the side with the pellet hopper, as you would see with a typical offset smoker?
Answer: I don’t typically use the grill part of the smoker. I put my meat on a foil covered sheet with a grill on it. Maybe because of my method I haven’t experienced any hot spots!
Answer: No, the pellets are brought to a firepot in the bottom center of the grill barrel by an auger before being lit. The grill's internals then deflect the direct heat of the flame and circulate the hot air around the inside of the barrel.
Answer: No, with the firepot located in the center of the barrel and the fan that is used to maintain temperature, this smoker acts much more like a convection oven. If there's any hot spot, it's in the back near the downdraft vent, but it's not a big enough difference to notice.
Answer: I have not experienced a hot spot as you described.
Answer: Not that we have noticed, It's a wonderful smoker
Answer: No, have not experienced this. In fact the thermocouple is located on this wall so I would think this area would be closer to the set point. Smoker works well and we are enjoying it.
Answer: No. The Ironwood series heat evenly, and the fire pot is dead center with a diffuser.
Q:

Answer: The Trager is simple to assemble, it only takes a couple of tools, all of which are shipped with the grill. Instructions are very clear and the unit only takes about a half hour to assemble.
Q:
Where is this grill made?
Q:
how big is the hopper?
Answer: It fits one whole bag of Traeger pellets.
Q:
What is the difference between the pro and elite?
Q:

Product reviews of Traeger Grills Ironwood 650 Wood Pellet Grill and Smoker Bundle with Cover and Signature Pellets featuring Alexa and WiFIRE Smart Home Technology - Black
corie fulop : Worth the $ sturdy nice looking fits anywhere
ABSOLUTELY THE BEST THING I EVER PURCHASED FOR COOKING worth the $$$$$
Street Glide Guy : State of the art smoker
So I was hesitant at first to spring for the Traeger Ironwood 650. I previously owned a vertical Pit Boss and had experienced some random issues with it. So after reviewing the differences I ended up with the Ironwood 650. The features that set it apart were the stackless downdraft exhaust, the super smoke function, the double insulated interior wall, true WiFi, TRU convection cooking, Dual Position Smoke/Sear Bottom Grate, 500* temp max, and pellet sensor. Let’s talk convenience. I’m a novice smoker who can follow pro recipes and get good results. My first cook was a pork butt that the recipe called for a no wrap low n slow cook. The custom program on the Traeger allowed me to program it to cook in 2 stages by itself without me baby sitting it ! The cook started at 200* with a target temp at the probe of 160* then the grill switched by itself to 220* with a target probe temp of 190*. I literally put the food in the grill started the program and went to bed. 11 hours later the butt was cooked to perfection with deep smoke rings. Finally some have complained over the WiFi connectivity. It can be a challenge to get a good signal outside to your cooking area. I bought a reasonably priced range extender from Amazon the TP Link WiFi AC750 extender RE220 for $19.99. Now many people have struggled because they weren’t using the required 2.4 GHZ router signal. Many were using the newer technology 5.0 GHZ wireless routers. I myself am using a dual band 2.4 / 5.0 GHZ router however the above mentioned TP Link extender actually separated my dual bands so I was able to choose the 2.4 GHZ band for compatibility. Follow the WIFi setup instructions for the grill and the range extender and presto ! My grill gets adequate wireless signal from about 100’ away from the router and has never dropped connection. This WiFi connectivity from Traeger is vastly superior to the $200 Thermoworks outboard unit I was using that dropped out all the time. Hopefully this review gives you reasons to take the plunge for an Ironwood Traeger and solves the connectivity issues caused by too low WiFi signal and wrong router signal (5.0 GHZ) Happy smoking !
S. Weaver : Best, most expensive, grill I've ever owned.
As soon as I started to assemble this grill I became impressed. The construction is fantastic. Getting it up and running took a little while because I didn't realize there is a power switch on the BACK of the grill, basically a master switch. Once I figured that out, connecting to the internet and seasoning the grill was very easy and in no time at all I was smoking a nice thick rib eye, squash, and corn on the cob. It is easy as pie with the app. Now I do not put apps like this on my phone because they like to snatch personal information, but I put it on a tablet that has no contacts and never leaves the house.
Driderk : Makes smoking meat too easy.
This grill is amazing for smoking meat or just your standard quick grilling. Only issue I have had is connecting to wifi. Even tried setting up a special 2.4 ghz signal but still won't stay connected, so that almost brought it down to 4 star, but everything I pull off there is so easy and delicious, I couldn't ding it.

ABSOLUTELY THE BEST THING I EVER PURCHASED FOR COOKING worth the $$$$$
Amazon Customer : Love my Traeger!
Easy to assemble, great packaging, instructions and design. Easy to use and the flavor that it produces is incomparable.
Brett C. : Broke after a year, waiting for warranty parts for months
Bought this grill about 14 months ago. It worked fine until it started shutting down randomly. Tech support says I need a new power brick. That was about 2 months ago. Each time I call in, it's the same story. Part is back ordered but a new shipment is scheduled to arrive in a couple days and it should ship out then.
I've now called several times and they still can't/won't tell me how many people are ahead of me in line to get one of these parts. Clearly the part has a severe defect if there are so many people waiting for a replacement.
The most frustrating part is the misinformation, claiming each time that one will be shipped out in a few days and here we are months later, still nothing. I would have purchased a replacement from a 3rd party had I known it would take so long. Of course now they are all but sold out online except for one vendor selling them at twice the price.
Don't buy Traeger unless you're looking for a useless piece of metal for your back yard.
Tracy Brown : Worth the investment
This Traeger cooks perfectly. I have made baby back ribs and pulled pork and both came out wonderful.
Easy to use and works as advertised.
Dan F : Buy it already
I spent years contemplating this purchase and should have bought it sooner. Amazing and easy to use. Even the wife uses it. Some parts started rusting quickly but Traeger customer service has already replaced the parts. Very good customer service, which is expected for an expensive product.
Aspen : Fantastic grill - Changing the way we cook
This grill/smoker is awesome. It's easy to setup and easy to use and the app comes with lots of recipes for the different types of food, pellets, rubs, etc that you can use. The app really makes it easy to know exactly what's going on with the grill and we've made lots of awesome food with it!
MPF : This is all you need, period.
First and foremost, the New England Patriots have been the most dominant force in the NFL for the past two decades. See photo. Ok, look... This thing is worth the money. You don't need to go bigger unless you are cooking for a family of twenty or more. This is the gold standard in the industry. Just do it, you want to do it... Pull the trigger here, and you wont be let down. The absolute best customer service that I have ever dealt with. I cannot say enough about this product.
Jeremy : Stoked on Smoke
Put it this way...I hauled my propane grill to the garage and put it in the corner, I’m done with propane!! I smoke everything, even steaks at our usual steak house don’t taste as good!!! I’m a steak snob now if it ain’t smoked it ain’t worth my time!!
Stephen J. : Changing pellets not easy because toe design
I have been using the Signature pellets and decided today to switch to Apple pellets to smoke pork chops. The directions say it is easy to do. Well it is. The chute opening to let the pellets out is too far towards the right (looking from the back) and therefore a bucket cannot be placed on the ground directly under the chute because of the wheel. Second, not all the pellets slide out and there have to be pushed toward the chute from the top. However there is a grate that obstructs moving the pellets. I am pretty sure it is a safety device so a person does not get their hand in the the auger chute, but it would be nice if it could be lifted up to allow for moving pellets toward the back of the pellet box into the chute where the pellets exit the box. By the time I got done I had pellets all over my deck. Otherwise it is a good smoker.
robert : Hard to improve on it
Game changer. Literally set it and forget it. Your phone is your legs. Total control from inside home
S. Weaver : Best, most expensive, grill I've ever owned.

Brian K Truhn : Great smoker/grill with substandard paint
I love this grill! It does everything thing I want to do and is soooo easy to use. It has the ease of use of a gas grill with the flavor of a wood-fired oven. It is great! Admittedly, it does not do the searing thing well but that is not a big thing for me because I use a Big Green Egg for that.
Be forewarned that the paint does not live up to the quality of the rest of the grill. After a few uses it will bubble and fall off in places and Traeger will not do anything about it. It is a shame that something so basic was not addressed in the design and manufacturing process. I have a 10 year old Weber grill that looks brand new (well close) on the outside and it has gotten VERY hot and spent its life uncovered in Chicago weather. Not sure why they chose to skimp on the paint because other than that they knocked it out of the park.
Kindle Customer : New way of bbquing
My nephew’s baby, he loves it and has been experimenting with different flavors.

Fantastic

G. Kerber : Lame phone app and horrible customer service
The grill is fine. The electronic controls aren’t the best though. When I first got the grill, the phone app worked fine. Then Traeger decided to update it. Now all I get is marketing items wanting me to buy something. I was required to sign up for an account with Traeger (really? For my OWN grill?). Then it wanted me to identify my grill by scanning the barcode on the grill. After I umpteen times trying that, it would not connect. So I tried contacting Traeger. Good luck with that. Had to leave a message and after several days, no return call. There’s no email link on their website. Your only choice is to call. Apparently Traeger only wants to sell grills and accessories and that’s it.
Brian L. : Great for convenience but not at all for smoke flavor
I regret this purchase a bit. It is super convenient. It is like using an oven but with bells and whistles of using phone app for temperature readings and controls. Unfortunately, I bought is for great smoking with a great smoker crust and hickory flavor. I have used it with pork butt, ribs, fish, and chicken, with hickory pellets. I have used the "super smoke" feature with the slow and smoke method. Very disappointed with no flavor missing that great smoked meat flavor. I also tried putting hickory chunks and the inside grill, but no effect at all, since too cool to burn when using the slow and cook temps. On the other hand, the meats turned out really great for cooking (though plan for it to take hours, which is expected for the necessary slow cooking for these things (other than fish and chicken). I already have a propane grill. Had I known this flavor issue, I would have saved a ton of money by just buying a much cheaper electric smoking "cabinet" and a remote thermometer.
Eric Reese : For my first foray into smoking this was brilliant.
Easy to build for one person though with two it would be easier to flip.
After the initial burn in I smoked a pork butt, 12-14 hrs and it was perfect.
The temp probe tied into the unit and transmitted via wifi, I was able to monitior the cooking.
The app allows you to adjust the unit temp, see food temp, turn unit of etc. Very easy.
Id say it takes the old school skill out of smoking, though I can't say I am overly sad about that for myself as I would have ruined many good pieces of meat in the process of learning...
Mike Bugatto : It’s greatest thing since sliced bread, but probably better.
Fantastic

Literally received and assembled this today, and had a GREAT shipping experience from Amazon. Two techs, lift gate, right on time. Coming from decades of charcoal only smoking, finally made the move to a pellet smoker. Lots of research proved there is probably NOT a perfect one for everyone, but I settled on the Ironwood 650 from Traeger. Assembled in 20 minutes, and only needed help standing it upright. Seasoned the grill for 30 minutes at 300 degrees, then 20 minutes more at 500. Because I was smart enough to split my WIFI networks, hooking it to the 2.4 band was simple. Traeger states it only works on the 2.4 band WIFI, so if you have Self Organizing Networks enabled, you may have to "split" your networks, but may not.
Priming the auger was the next step, and easily done via the control panel on the unit, and it started a 2 minute countdown clock. I was getting nervous nearing the end of the countdown as no pellets had fallen into the firebox yet, but right as the clock reached zero, sure enough, a couple plinked in there. Started it up, and let it come up to temp, and was curious about the "Super Smoke" option, and decided on a few racks of ribs @ 225 degrees to test it out. Be advised "Super Smoke" will NOT work above 225 degrees. Grill came up to temp, enabled the Super Smoke from the app, and the fan started to cycle accordingly. Making adjustments, changing temps, even setting timers was just too damned simple on the app. Got reminders when timers expired. Onto the 1.5 hour phase of my 3-1.5-1 rib smoke, and thus far, just can't complain about anything.
Will update this review if anything changes, but thus far, the grill, packaging, assembly, app, and use have been without issue. Also, if you're in need of a good mobile pellet storage container, this one has worked out great.

Dee : Wonderful
We bought this smoker grill. it's wonderful. Smokes meats perfectly
Melvin Voyzey : Great Smoker
The new Traegar smoker is great. It was difficult to put together as it is heavy and round. There is nothing good to pick it up as the lid opens and there are no handles. After assembled its easy to move around. This smoker had a great new feature - a door to drain the unused pellets so you can change pellets at any time. Unfortunately it is positioned in a spot you cant put a bucket to catch the pellets. The dump on top of a wheel. I made a makeshift spout to redirect the pellets into my container. I would recommend it to anyone interested in getting into Smokin'
Garrett F. : Buy this smoker
I purchased this Traeger just before the Covid-19 quarantines began and have absolutely loved it. I’m new to smoking and only somewhat experienced with grilling. The Traeger app, downloadable recipes, and temperature probe make it so easy to cool great food every time. Purchasing all the different wood pellet types and accessories does add up, so be prepared. Overall, I’m very satisfied and would buy this again.
Geoffrey Graves : Take the leap, you won’t be sorry.
I went back and forth for about 3 months before I finally bit the bullet and bought my ironwood 650. I really wish I hadn’t waited so long. Since I got it, I can’t stop thinking about my next recipe. Best flavor and easiest to use smoker I’ve ever owned.
Gina A : Easy to assemble
Assembly is straightforward and easy to get setup.
Luke : Initially an excellent grill, quickly that opinion changed
This grill worked flawlessly the day that I put it together. It fired right up, connecting to the app was seamless, and the first food to come off of it was delicious. Honestly I wondered if I would ever want to use a different grill after that experience.
After several cooks and some cleanings, I received an "Auger overcurrent" error message. Research online via Google and the Traeger website revealed some solutions, all of which I performed (usually related to a clogged auger). I called Traeger customer support and worked through the issue with their team. They determined I needed a new auger motor and sent me one. 11 days later, I received a fan as opposed to an auger motor. Additional phone calls ensued with different sets of conflicting information. My auger motor eventually arrived and I changed it out as well as the provided wiring harness. The error message continued. After an entire afternoon of telephone conversations with their support team, they wanted to try sending me another auger motor kit despite this not working already. They said they were unable to process a return due to purchasing this item through Amazon. Amazon's first solution was to provide a partial refund for less than 1/2 of the purchase price. Keep in mind this is all within the FIRST MONTH of having this grill.
All in all, I am disappointed with the quality of product shipped to me as well as the accountability provided by the parent company. I had hoped for dependability by spending the extra money on such a well-established company, however this proved to be a lesson for me. I should have more thoroughly researched this company's integrity before paying them >$1000 for a product.
PROS: Traeger name, lots of accessories, initially worked beautifully
CONS: The grill broke literally 13 days after I bought it and I have spent the weeks trying to sort it out with customer service. Traeger was not willing to offer a refund as this was purchased through Amazon (despite the seller being Traeger).
TL;DR: Payed for expensive grill, worked for 13 days, now Traeger will not process a return due to purchasing the item through the TRAEGER Amazon store. Initial offer from Amazon was partial refund within 45 days of purchase for ~$300 (purchase price $1199). Consider buying a grill from a company with higher quality standards and integrity.
