What Shakespeare rod pairs well with this reel?

Answer: I originally had this reel as part of a combo with a 7ft medium heavy rod. It functioned perfectly until I was careless and didn't rinse the salt water from it after using in in the surf.

Answer: I went with a 9 ft surf rod

Answer: I used an 8ft. Ugly Stick with the 70 to fish the big reservoirs and for surf casting. I caught many stripers with this rig.

Is this reel good ?

Answer: It's a decent reel for lakes and rivers. I have used it inshore/bay salt water. It's a good value for the casual fisherman.

Answer: For the low price it is. If your a professional fisher it's not gonna last but for the weekend fishermen it's great for the price.

Answer: It seems well made and runs smoothly. I haven't taken it fishing yet.

Whats the max lb line for the size 80?

Answer: Shakespeare states that it's 220 yds of 30 lb. monofilament. You could get heavier test (lb. rating) using braided type line like SpiderWire.

Answer: donno if this answers this question precisely, but this might be useful. i used frm 10 to 100 braided lines, and the 25 it comes with. it has difficulties turning when i am pullin a 4 ft blue fish, i have to pull the rod and then to roll up the line. the prob is when u pull the line in it does not have an adjustable mechanism to compensate the difference btween the diameter of the line and i usually have spaces between the tracks and it lays every layer diagonally there by significantly decreasing the length of the line u can put on it. also the screw holding the handle rusted out in under a year

Answer: Depends on what size reel you have. I have the 70 and it came with 25lb test but I changed it to 17lb test for lake trout and salmon. I always go with the minimum pound test line the reel calls for.

Answer: This reel is too small for 25 lbs line only 12 lbs, that being said I catch huge bass on 12lb line.

Answer: You'd probably have to contact Shakespeare directly and order a spare spool.

Answer: For a rod that long, a size 70 or 80 should work well.

Answer: Not really sure but would image probably need the biggest they have

what is b or x means? 60b, 60x

Answer: The "b" designation normally means the reel comes in a box. The "x" or sometimes a "c" generally means it comes in one of those stupid plastic clam packages.

What does "size 25", "size 40", etc. mean?

Answer: It's kind of an unofficial standard for spinning reel size based on line capacity. Depending on the manufacturer they will be sized from 10 to 80, 100 to 800, or 1000 to 8000. 10/100/1000 would be an ultralight reel and 80/800/8000 a larger reel for saltwater or large freshwater fish.

What do the size numbers mean?

Answer: size of reel , the higher the number the longer and thicker the line can be.

Answer: Yes 25lb will work up to 30lb max

Answer: Should without a problem. Mine is attached to a 12’

Answer: Either a 60, 70 or 80 would be fine

What is the max drag for the size 60, 70 and 80?

Answer: I'm not sure what you mean by drag 60 70 80? Drag is a resistance setting the fisherman uses to minimize the line being taken off the reel by the fish pulling. So as far as a number setting im not sure that even applies to this reel. All I can tell you is it is a great cheap reel I use to catch large bass with and it works great.

For this reel come with an interchangeable crank?

Answer: Yes, you can easily swap the handle from side to side.

What is the max lb line in Alpha50b?

Answer: I only use the line that came on the reel, 12lbs. Works fine.

This is an excellent reel for the money. Bought one as a combo on a 10' rod, and then bought a second one for an 11' rod I bought separately. It's a tough, well built reel. Very basic as it doesn't have reverse or any other function other than forward (retrieve) and a manual bail. Not much more to it.

Very happy with this. Quite heavy duty. I have removed the supplied line and loaded it up with KastKing SuperPower Braid Fishing Line, 30lb test. I have only used it a few times but it appears to be well built and it should be reliable.

If you need a large reel for the ocean or for catfishing then I would recommend this reel. I got the size 80 and it's just what I was looking for. Sure you can find higher quality but for around $20 it's definitely worth it even if it's for backup.

its an okay reel. If you want one just go to Meijer and get it for $8.99 cause I over paid for it. it is good for beginners but if you are a more experienced fisher then I would not recommend this. it tangles around the spool pretty easily so watch out for that. I bought a batecaster after my experience with this reel. You might think about doing the same.
